Proof that Canadian university graduates aren't any smarter than American university grads. Very disappointing to learn that the RCMP recruits so many morons.
@MendingMedia Dude have you ever seen any other videos of DEPOT or spoken to anyone who has gone? It's like the military most of the time, its intense. I think a joke every now and then is okay. Dont take one clip and assume you know anything
A lot of the foot drill is very similar to the british army, as are the badges of rank. Also the RCMP are the only unit other than The Kings Troop Royal Horse Artillery, to have been trusted by The Household Cavalry, to mount the The Queens Life Guard in London while the cavalry's horses take a break for two weeks. Great documentary
Wow, this shit's a cake walk compared to army training. Kinda nice how you're able to laugh during these drill without getting reamed out. Maybe it just depends on the instructors at Depot. I'm going for both Reg Force MP and RCMP right now...whichever one I manage to get into first!
Ha ha ha lol I loved it where the cpl. Was yelling at them for the steps and I think he's Now the sgt maj on base I'm not 100% most likely because my brother graded there in january of 2010 and the RCMP is my dream job can't wait till I go
What just grade 12! I think they all should have at least a Bachelor's Degree to become a RCMP, since it is well paying $89,000 a year after 4 years. There are too many BA's working at Starbucks at $9.50 a hour, and they ought to make a university degree the number 1 priority.
Just because you didn't go to university doesn't mean you SHOULDN'T make good many. Grade 12 is a minimum requirement but alot have a diploma and some do have degrees. Also some come from military backgrounds. Just because you may or may not have post secondary doesn't mean you dont deserve to make good money. For those university students who work at starbucks maybe they should study for a degree/ job thats more in demand or actually get a job in their field!!
@sicksonethree You want to see the value of an education and the benefits it has especially to women? Cpl. Annie Linteau is a stellar example. She is not some humble "country bumpkin"" type that looks like they recruited from some crafts and bake sale from some little hamlet in rural Alberta. Check out her profile. As a civilian, I would trust her judgement and direction 100%. She graduated with distinction in the social sciences. The old guys on the force are great, also. They have the experience
There is a difference between education and intelligence.
People investing in education should put serious thought into their future. Many don't. They simply take Arts for the sake of getting a degree that they hope will magically provide them with a well paying job - and then blame the world when they're unemployed and have a mountain of debt.
Many people without degrees make more that their educated counterparts. Just because they're not educated doesn't mean they're not intelligent.
@pcmr57 Have you ever studied the statistics on income comparing those who have a post-secondary degree compared to those who do not? Yes, we all have heard the 21 year olds gripe about not getting a job making 100k a year after they graduate from university. I would not measure the value of an education on a few kids who still need to experience life. Also, extensive writing trains the mind how to measure, analyze and compare data. The training to look for the objective and not the subjective.
@pcmr57 In addition to my earlier comments, one quality that is most important, regardless of educational background is that the new member has to always want to be better by continually searching for methods to refine their skill and aptitude as a member. It is not something that finishes at depot, but it is a continual process throughout their career. It is these types of individuals that need to be recruited and inspired to remain on the force once they have a few years underneath their belt.
Working as a Starbucks barrista is just as hard work and dangerous. You can get robbed at the till with more money coming in than your local Vancity credit Union.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Whats with all the marching? Do these guys think they are in the military? Let see them serve in Iraq for a few years. Most of them wouldnt cut it in the military for a day.
actually, yes they are paramillitary, and many are in iraq and afganistan as well as other countries. get your facts straight beofre bashing people that are in iraq dieing for you buddy..
@OrleansBlues they are in Afghanistan and Iraq: true. Although they are are not and never will be attached to combat units. They are training local police forces in secured and stable areas. so saying they are dying for the country abroad is in my honest opinion stretching it. Lets leave that to the men and women of the canadian forces. They are paramilitary in training but they dont remain this way out of depot.. in function they operate and administrer as any modern police force. Go RCMP.
I believe the point of the joke was to illicit the response we saw from the cadets. Even in the military sometimes instructors make fun of what a solider may say or do in order to have them realize that what they say or did was incorrect and to learn from that error. It is a style of training and instructing that is widely used. It goes hand in hand with the old adage sometimes its better to use a carrot and not the stick.
Why the heck are all the Cadets laughing like clowns when the Corporal makes referrence to certain cadets and when another cadet makes an error in their math. Where the heck is their bearing and their mark Cut out the laughing and get serious. You are about to be an RCMP Officer. Smarten UP!!!
You fucking idiot. Do you think that Corporal make the corn flakes joke not expecting a laugh out of the troop? I'd rather have an officer help me that has a humorous side than one that acts like a robot. Cheer the fuck up and enjoy a laugh once and a while! It won't make you THAT incompetent.
DOesn't matter you would prefer. Its a serious profession, so the training, especially drill and deportment should be taken and instructed seriously. It creates a Military bearing and a stronger command presence on the street. Joking around only difuses that bearing and makes a bunch of clowns even more so. I cheer up and laugh when I'm off duty, the right time to relax.
Ok Man, listen, I don't know what you do and don't really care. I am in the army, and one of many things I've learned is that comradery is vital. Laughing at ones math mistake will not create incompetent police officers. I agree the training is important, but why would a few laughes make a cadet a clown? Think about it. The rest of the time they're focused on their training.
Well Zeerotoo you can have a little shitfit all you wan't, but i you know anything about the RCMP you would know that they are para-military, not military so calm down and only comment on things that you are knowledgable about .
I agree with you and disagree in a way. Yes the RCMP is not military however, the methods they use to train emmulate a military style culture and in many ways is structed as such. However, even in the military while instructors bust someones ass and make a joke they do not chop off the cadets/recruits nuts for laughing. Obviously if the lauging is out of line and directed at something that is otherwise not funny then they shouldnt be laughing but a pun here and there does not hurt.
You have to learn to laugh at yourself ok its what makes a good leader having courage in yourself and not get embarrassed but stand up and answer a question and be heard in the RCMP I think you would get away with this mabey..mabey depend on the person but if you are training to follow orders instead of abide by your own judgement like in the army you have to follow those orders mindlessly ok you see big difference from army and RCMP.

nice well join then after high school when you are in the depot they have spent over 60000 dollars on you and your gonna be damned if they let you fail depot they goin to drag you through depot untill you graduate for example you fail the weapons training they will one on one tutor you untill you have the skill set of shooting needed to graduate.
