always wanted to hear this song. Though I can understand why others wouldn't like it, speaking for myself, every time I hear something from Lynne, I gain a new appreciation for his ear for music. "Love this song"!!! It's just plain fun, and not too serious...
I kinda liked tIhis when it came out. I hated disco, but this wasn't exactly disco, but a crossover sumth'n sumth'n. I knew the ELO of Eldorado was probably officially dead, when this came out.
Brilliant song, first heard it in the late 70's and shows how good Jeff is with his catchy backing vocals, music, sounds, not like the shit you hear on the radio today
I had this as a 45 single and lost it. Nice to hear it again after all these years. Not because I like the song, really, but as an ELO collectible. Wish I had that 45!!
I always thought this song was hilarious in its kitschiness! I like the dance moves on the album cover as shown early in this vid. Yes, the guitar solo is kind of nice.
Ummmmm.....this sounds more like an influence from Stevie Wonder or Earth Wind and Fire. It has a bit of Bee Gees sound just because it is a bit disco, but it has a more funky sound so to me it is more like something from the ones I mentioned. Think of the song "Shining Star" from EW&F or "Superstition" from Stevie Wonder. In fact the beginning of this sounds EXACLTY like the beginning of Superstition.
I see your view too, but listen to the beginning of SW's Superstition right after listening to the beginning of this JL selection and you will be amazed at the similarities. The only difference is Superstition has a jazz guitar chord progression that this JL song does not have. Not saying there is any infringement here, just intense style influence. But I know people have different ways of hearing music and interpreting it. That is what this artform is all about. Thanks for posting this!
If this had been huge, we probably wouldn't be laughing at it right now, ya know? ;)
It's certainly not what I'm used to from JL&Co. but I think it definitely has it's catchy parts like the 'bridge,' if that's what you want to call it, and the chorus. Love that guitar solo at the end too. :)
Great tune from the master of rock! AND this song has got a dance to go with it! Thanks for posting! By the way, if you type &fmt=18 after the video URL you can watch this in stereo (it's better that way)

I've always been a fan of both ELO and EW&F.
This single is just bridging the gap...

Sounds quite reminiscent of Bee Gees material from the same era. I wonder if Jeff got his inspiration from Barry, Robin and Maurice for this track.

Pretty good crossover disco tune. I hear it alot on WOL radio, Wash. D.C. and in the clubs.

Hey, my local record shop had this on a 33 RPM, 7" promo single.
No B-side though, so I bought the 45 RPM 12" single instead!
For the same price, might as well get both this and Goin' Down To Rio...HA!

Think this was a disappointment when it
was released. ELO´s success was at its peak.
Afterwards it´ s understandable. Like ELO
members played football between sessions,
Jeff Lynne made this "to clear your head "
like with football.

I never heard this until this year.
Jeff Lynne made this at the same time
when Out of the Blue was made. Not bad but very hard to imagine.

I've got this. Won it in a dance competition.
I'm a massive elo fan but never liked this.
Havn't heard it for ages but agree with joe costello regarding scissor sisters.
It's not a bad as i originally thought. Needless to say my copies in near mint condition.

Now that you mention it I can detect a funk influence too, though i wouldn't go as far as saying the beginning was the same as Stevie

You know, ELO purists may mock but this would fit right in on a Scissor Sisters album!

I don´t have an idea why Jeff Lynne made a song like this in the Out of the Blue days !
Maybe it was like football to him. To clear your mind between recording sessions.
I don´t mean it´s bad it´s different.
