  • While this serves as great metaphore, the real truth is based in evidence, and so much more satisfying. We can include art like this as metaphore, just as we do ancient Greek mythology.

  • Maravillosas escenas.

  • Thank you, jfranklins, for the lovely interpretation!

  • this is the church, this is the steeple...

  • I'm surprised to see how many here miss the point of this scene. St Francis, though he loves his mother dearly is renouncing the world to follow Christ. The hand gesture as he leaves is telling his mother to seek God as the most important thing in life. How touching as he comes back years later in the family courtyard offering a blessing and speaking the Word of Christ to them.

And everyone who has left father or mother for My name's sake... Matthew 19:29

  • hey man. im naked!!

    UMmm bye!! :D ru

  • we are all born naked ;) nothing strange with nudity

  • nothing strange with nudity? except that we all don't want to see other people's hairy ass cocks and pussies. do you? didn't think so man.

  • I love you, my mother. you were the first person who thought me to love and pray without closing my eyes and closing my hands. You told me before whenever i pray, i must open my eyes so that i could see others; and i should open my hand so that i could reach others. I love you nanang.

  • It is a scene that feels love to the son.

Mother might be able to do only a silence and the watch.

    However, it might be love.

  • thanks so much

  • beautiful

  • i am so glad you put this song on it is an ancient song!

  • Beautiful! Valentina Cortese does a wonderful job as the mother. The Lullaby is so sweet and has that charming atmosphere. The scene Francesco tries to tell his mother "Start to pray" or "Don't talk to me because I'm praying" Difficult to interpret but Zeffirelli entailed a lot of symbols in this movie...

I also like the transfer from the moment the mother cares for him to the moment when he looks for shelter and noone seems to care...

    Grazie!
