  • i think this is boring.

  • vu a Manheim en 1991 !!! tout simplement énorme !!!!

  • STEVE HACKETT WAS A FARRRRR BETTER GUITAR PLAYER AND WRITTER THAN DARYL WAS AND WOULD EASILY BLOW THIS IMMITATOR OFF THE STAGE THIS SHIT NEVER EVER EVER EVER RULED

  • ll

  • ....was lucky enough to be here, right at the front, yep...great day!! Will never forget.

  • hhhmmmmm!!! first off, insane!! soooo badass!!!! yes chills also!! lol! sick bass line!! sorry just a little excited! hahaha

  • P.C is bad ass! :)

  • Boy, remember when talented adults made popular music?

  • THESE GUYS BECAME A DISGRACE

  • @jensen91865

Get over yourself asshat. Do you have to go to every Collins era Genesis video and post this? It was 30 years ago...let it go....

Phil Collins rules and so does this Genesis lineup so suck it

  • NO HACKETT, NO GABRIEL, NO GENESIS STUERMER SUCKS!!

  • I remember this show over in Philly. I thought this band lineup rocked the hardest as seen here. Great album by Phil & crew. LLG

  • To think that this used to be part of "mainstream" music... Nowadays, popular music has sunk to such a mess of vapid digitized tripe. At least we have the classics to enjoy, and with the internet more people get to experience what once was (and hopefully can be again).

  • Seen them in 1980 in the Carrier Dome Syracuse NY had to of been the best show I ever went to!

  • @TheRalph1966 It was an amazing show with the vari-lites, but that was Dec. 11, 1981. Genesis never played the Carrier Dome before the Abacab tour since the Dome didn't open until September 20, 1980 - well after Genesis played their final gig in Upstate NY - and the entire 1980 Duke tour - @ SPAC on June 30, 1980.

  • 4:26-4:29....such an epic fucking synth note.

  • FULL body chill starting from 0:01 all the way to 8:22.

  • They've been my favorite band since the "And Then There Were Three" Days. Peter Gabriel was great but Phil Collins brought this group to their top.

  • Agreed takes me back to 5th grade listening to this for the first time at a friends house and then rushing to Sam goody to buy the LP myself wow that was 30 years ago already...seems like yesterday yes at :50 when Banks starts on the keys brings me right back to then....

  • Its amazing that 0:50 immediately takes me back a lot of years.....WOW. Thanks for posing.

  • Sex, Drugs & Genesis !

  • Looks like a million fans! lol!! One great performance*****

  • I don't understand why I see some dislikes... Maybe some blind or foolish people.

  • WHOA, faster than the studio version!

  • how many people there?

  • Superb!!!

  • Phil & Chester are great together!!

  • I was there , Phil had hair and life was good !!!!! :)

  • 3 people thought twice and still clicked the wrong button

  • Phil certainly had a lot more hair then! :)

  • And such a great ending to a great song!*****

  • Who's the poster that said that this is gay??? You wouldn't know good music if it hit you in the face! A-hole!

  • 7: 28 man thats a shit load of people

  • Fucking dripping with talent. Jesus. They don't make em like that anymore.

  • you'll know when it happens... ABACAB!!

  • @moonchild7o7 and @fluffythecat2 you got it!

    Can't over produce this sound!

  • Kickass song one of the best!

  • My former roommate and I spent MANY late nights in Iraq listening to music and trying to figure out what the hell Abacab is. I've heard all the possible origins of the title but it's still a mystery to me.

  • @valsoldier03 When Brits are drunk and looking to catch a cab they'll say abacab mate.

Thats mah story and I'm stickin to it

  • @ThurstonGHowell3rd I got a good laugh out of that one. I'll stick to that story too.

  • @valsoldier03 ABACAB is referring to the chord progression of the song...goes from A to B back to A....so on and so forth....Phil said it himself...

  • Are there any live acts around today as talented as these guys...???

    I dont think so.

  • Comment removed

  • Holy crap.....

  • I'm sorry, you're just not going to get better than this. Super Mega Wicked.

  • Oh, yes.

  • @adamtzsch ABACAB - Mike, Tony, Phil - finally re-defining Genesis.

  • Just as amazing everytime they played! i will never be too old to love Phil Collins and Genesis,

  • GAY.

  • @redblack305 FOAD

  • estaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa super

  • One of the BEST. VOICES. EVER.

    That is all.

  • theres more people at the show than who have watched this vid...sad

  • FULL body chill starting around 4 mins. Amazing. That...is some of the greatest rock and roll...ever. Right up there with Led, Cream, whoever. Phil and the lads can be proud of what they did. One of the tightest acts, ever. Right down to the nanosecond. Thanks Phil. :D

  • @fluffythecat2 agreed from 4:03 on fking amazing with Phil on the other drumset...Banks going to town on the keys and Mike Rutherford on the six string.

I don't know why but I find myself on a Genesis kick lately...oh yeah tunes like this is why. And people listen to Lady Gaga today? Why or why?

  • - I'm looking for something epic... - Here, have some Abacab - Holy craaap! (mind blowed up)

  • Like I said before, Phil and the boys = A LEGEND! ABACAB A MASTERPIECE!

  • I love songs where both Phil and Chester have a chance to play together. They have excellent chemistry and play off each other so well. Awesome ending. Love the part where they shift into the ending section right around 7:25.

  • Comment removed

  • chester........you cant get any tighter on those drums!

  • Awesome sounding...

  • only 378 guys love this song?? i understand if we are 550 human on this earth

  • Tony banks! you never really hear anything from Him, WAY TO UNDERRATED ( my opinion) He is a killer keyboardist, I think one of the best! He is always cool & quiet, Every now & then you may see a beer next to his keyboard, A rock n roll bad ass?lol. I don't know, But a BAD ASS ON THE KEY'S for sure !

  • Great Rutherford Guitar solo!

  • AWsome - I saw that tour!!

And Phil had the BEST 80s mullet for sure!

  • Genesis + Wembley + Abacab = WOW.

  • that was fuckin awesommmmeee..double drumming..don't get any better, they had them licks down

  • totally fuckin amazin.,

  • Three people are idiots and should be banned from youtube.

  • Doesn't get credit?! He has food, shelter, a good job, probably a family. Egomaniacs demand credit.

  • The definitive version of the song.. Steve Hackett would have been crying into his hands watching this on his tv screen

  • Genesis is one of the greatest progressive rock bands of the 20th Century. Good work, guys. Excellent!!!

  • UNVERGESSLICH......

Sonntag 6 Juni 1987 Fussballstadion in Hannover...

....die "Hütte"bis auf den letzten Millimeter ausverkauft.....

  • This song doesn't really "start" until the 5:00 mark.

    From then on... WOW!!!!!

  • What a shame that this will never be heard from the boys, ever again. Such teamwork and complete perfection. All of them

  • Those last minutes of that solo are STUNNING! That awesome POWER, when Phil gets smashing those crashes (meaning cymbals)!!!

  • HOLY SHIT!!! I've heard people say the long solo in the song is boring well on this video the band rocked the XXXXK out of this old number!

Thanks for posting it!!! Must've been an awesome show...

  • 1987 Rotterdam!!! I was there!

  • yeah man he can rock that C all day with that pick. really difficult

  • @bobofthewood Suck a stack of dicks, you probably have never rocked a C for more than 40 seconds. Or a woman.

  • TO: @VonHobbit....I agree he's just really amazing as a Dj and a fellow Bass player I agree in this song h'es not even scratching the surface!

  • i'm probably gonna get a million thumbs down but i hate this song xD

genesis is great but i just hate this song lol i can't listen to it without picturing someone from the 80s in purple sweatpants jogging in a park xD

  • Interesting that Rutherford is playing a Roland G-202 guitar here, as most of the other live clips I've seen from this era, he's usually playing a Steinberger guitar. I wonder why he used this guitar on this one song on this tour.

  • Awesome!

  • finally! audio! jeez i can't hear half the music on youtube. thanks man!

  • for the effin. win!

  • Take note: These are real musicians not pretenders. These guy's are all masters of their respective instruments!

  • Best mullet, best live music ever!

  • The English created the Mullet

  • It can´t be better than this...

  • lol ... at the ens of this song nobody understtod what happened ... i think only i did here at home ... they are all shocked ..... is incredible what those guys have done playing this song ... more i listen it and more i reamin wo words

  • This is back when Phil had THE PIPES.....100% win

  • Great performance. Great Music. Top artists. The balance between sound and rhythm is amazing.

  • This versions better than the studio version the guitar solos more energetic the keyboard parts are more pronounced and the drums are better

  • Classic rock is like steak.....it just marinates.....till were ready AGAIN!!!!

    p.s......u spelled "crap" wrong.....rap...lol

  • I'm 21 and I grew up listening to this concert pretty constantly as a kid :)

  • awesome drums

  • Sorry to see Phil steppin' out from behind the kit and steppin' down. Retiring, I hear. Will be missed. But I'm sure we will hear from him in some capacity or other. Production, etcetera...

  • How friggin' epic can you get. Absolutely outstanding!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Chester on drums

  • An absoulutely amazing band.

  • Le groupe du siècle !! Phil est tout simplement génial...

    FA...BU....LEUX... !!!!!!

  • UN-FREAKING AMAZING!

  • UN-FREAKING AMAZING!

  • Fantastic band, fantastic performance!! Wow!!

  • Somebody please tell me what kind of bass that is.

  • @HowNotToRap Steinberger

  • looks like a stienberger

  • @HowNotToRap:

Steinberger Headless Bass Guitar. Typical 80ies instrument. Very expensive. ;)

  • @gunterbutt But I want one so baaaad...

  • 1 Person Does not want to ride the abacab....... so sad......

  • WOW SIMPLY AWESOME!!

  • OMG !!! WOW...fantastic...simply fantastic!

  • no proper musicians now days, this old stuff will take some beating.

  • Holy Shit that was the best ending ever!! :)

  • Best. Band. Ever.

  • This version is more upbeat than the studio version

  • ABACAB is one their best 80's songs: it was Back to ROCK

I saw this as a new different kind of Rock sound: a Funky ROCK SOUND!

Awesome! Thanks PhilGenesisDB! The Sound is A1!

When Phil & Chester get on the drums at times it's thunderous!

And Mike Rutherford’s superb guitar work? He switched Darryl onto bass!

Mike: a much admired Genesis member & very underrated, maybe as he mostly plays bass -but then reminds us -like here, how good he can be!

Genesis sure rocked WEMBLEY that day!

  • I was fortunate enough to see Genesis in Denver, Colorado for their Turn It On Again tour and I can tell you that seeing this band perform is one HELL of an experience. Phil Collins is an AMAZING drummer and I will never forget seeing this band play live. Video will never do them justice, I guarantee it.

  • A slow start with Mama, but boy did they get going with this and never stopped until TIOA medley. Greatest Wembley-or-otherwise gig.

  • @MattSingh1 I agree. This has always been one of my fav gigs. Pity I didn't attend it in person. Peace, CR.

  • propre et génial

  • The one that disliked this was Peter Gabriel

  • Peter Gabriel doesn't like this

  • why are tonies synths so low in the mix

  • I dunno. The more and more I hear Genesis, the more I really dislike the stuff they did from 1978 and on. For one thing, Tony Bank's keyboard work just isn't interesting. He seems to have fallen for whoopie cushion synth sounds. This cannot stand up to Nursery Cryme. And the loss of Steve Hackett is pretty extreme. Rutherford just isn't that interesting a guitarist. As competent as he maybe, he just can't play to that level. At least Darryl can play the old songs. And the Miami Vice wardrobe...

  • As artists: (lyricists, singers and musicians) the group 'Genesis' is awesome...

  • Unbelievable.

  • one of the greatests band ever

  • Meester van de drums !!! master of the drums!!

    Waaassaaapp.

    (*_*)

  • Phil is singing into a Beyerdynamic M88 mic. If I can afford a lot of them, I'd get them for my church's band, since they're good vocalists. Ah, the Emulator II and Prophet 7 synthesizers. Know 'em quite well.

  • @tuokreahp Don't bother with the M88s. They are not much better than an SM58, really. Now, you can get a SM58 beta or the SM57 beta -- excellent and affordable mics. And if they're available, the Audio Technica Artist Elite series have very good and affordable product.

  • @bearmare Really? The M88's not that special? Hmmm. Yeah, my band's currently using SM58s on vocals, no 57s yet. I may look into the Beta 58s, though. Not much of a fan for A-Ts; you pay lots of $ for better sound from 'em. I picked the M88 for its better low end and higher SPL. Although, my next step is to replace the mixer. Rule of thumb: don't buy Peavy mixers if you want to sound great. Health & Allen or Mackie is far better, imho.

  • @tuokreahp I found the M88 sound good, but not for what you're paying for them. The Shure Betas have excellent sound: they can really cut through the mix and they are ruggedly made. I like the Opus line of mics from Beyer, however. I'd take Heath and Allen over Mackie just because they are better made. But check into the line of digital boards from Yamaha - excellent value and very powerful.

  • genesis gave out such a positive energy feel in their songs.

  • FROM PETER, IT TOOK A DIRECT SUNWARD POSITION TO FIRE TOWARDS...

  • Phil's hair was 80's metal

  • @TheFilthyRags Phil has Daryl Hall's hair.

  • ANYTHINGELSECANBREMEMERD....

  • WOW and that was a live performance, You can tell what group has talent when they do it live rather than in a studio where you can over dub mistakes.

  • NOTHITHINGFUCKYET.....................

  • Tight.

  • probably greatest time of our lives young and carefree then mortgage 2 kids marriage health and now i watch this on youtube thanks for the memories unbelievable night at wembley with my girlfriend of 30 years

  • Well if this didnt make the album version un-listenable, this is fucking awesome. I cant take the slow ass original anymore after hearing this.

  • @MrNotNiceGuy My sentiments exactly.

  • stupendaa!! W i Genesis.. li adoro!! :D

  • Having a hard time downloading this one but still a great job by Gensis

  • OMG!

  • Phil is dirty on the drums!

  • Comment removed

  • Higher tempo

  • playing this always makes me feel good lol phil and chester are awsome in this haha

  • this performace is AWESOME!!

  • I love this song. Although I am a 70s Genesis fan, I never fail to get a mood lift by "Abacab," It is associated with some super "mood-lifting" enhancements in my life!

  • Always preferrd the longer live version. One of Mikes best solos, with the others powering away in the background. awesome stuff. No other band managed to all work togethe and create such music, without one member wanting to hog the limelight!

  • Averyone did a good job there. Phil, Mike, Tony And Darryl

  • Excellent !!!!!!

  • gracias phill lo mejor de los 80 gustavo argentinaaaaaaaaaa

  • What,s out there today to compare with them?

  • @Beepa63 NOTHING!! nothing is better then genesis!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • What a jam.

Like the raw sound coming from that Bass! They could've kept on for 15 more minutes.

  • best song played live

  • Go Mike!!!

  • Phil and the boys were a genius! They made great use of the technology at that time.

Abacab and many of their other songs are a legend! May they never be forgotten!*****
