im not new to meat loaf but i haven't heard like all there songs I've heard like 12 and lol I'm 12 but imma say that this is my 2nd fav song idk i just like it the monster is loose is by far da best tho
My favorite line in Meat Loaf's version is "Bless the night - Memories can lie to change the past" because it makes it kind of a traditional theme of "Bat" songs. No other version of Carpe Noctem has that lyric.
All the parts where no words are sung (Intro, 2:23-3:16, ect...), sound like they could be used in some epic videogame boss battle. NOT AT ALL SAYING THE OTHER PARTS ARE GOOD, THE WHOLE SONG IS EXCELLENT, though i do like the guitar part at 5:12-5:26.
I am only 22, and am new to Meat Loaf. I usually listen to bands like Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden, Megadeth, Dio, etc. I have to say, I am pretty impressed with this so far. I will definitely be checking out more by Meat Loaf.
its always funny how you can never apreciate a song the first time you hear it but after listening to this album start to finish 2 days straight this song has really stuck to me
@RandTcreations I think that might have been intentional. But I've always wondered the same thing. Hey, Paradise By The Dashboard Light has baseball as a metaphor for sex, why can't this have some sex in it too?
A few days ago, I watched a live cover version of the german musical performed by non-professional volunteering teenagers. Some great voices there! And love the musical version of this song.
Jesus, this was great! I've heard the german ver, the hungarian and a little arange for a japanes one and this is interesting too, the singer and the chorus give to the song a diferent tone, but not so diferent.
This is one of my favorites songs from Tanz der Vampire!

So glad I have a good sound system and speakers...... Musical GOLD.....
Thanks to T for bring me to the show, and thanks to the Deaner, for the mushrooms!! WOW! LOL.... Inflatable band..... That just tripped the living shit out of me...
I freaken love this song.....it's incredible, I am a HUGE Meat Loaf fan (more like an obsession) and I've listened to every song he's ever sang or covered, and this one is definitly one of my absolute favorites out of the over 100 songs he's done:D
i swear i keep hearing "he has seen a idiot"though i know thats not right. though "dies irae kyrie" im not hearing but the 2nd parts of that i hear perfect.
Absolutely adore this song - quite possibly the best song on the album, alongside In The Land of the Pigs, The Butcher Is King. These two captured the Steinman feel perfectly, whereas the other covers came close...but not quite. The instrumental section adds some nice flavour to the song too - even the Storm from Bad for Good eventually made it onto a Bat album ^_^.
@Meatloaforever That's a bit harsh, mate. His life already seems crappy, seeing that he has to spend his spare time pissing people off from behind a computer screen.
@Meatloaforever It means that he gave no thought to his comment, and has no reason for his opinion. Therefore, we can deduce that the only reason he posted it was to piss us off. And look at his grammar. Does that not remind you of a troll? I am on your side, by the way.
I love the music. I like both versions of this song. I loke the musical version, and I like meat loaf's. HIs voice would fit perfect on the title role from jim steinmans musical xD thanks for the lyrics!!!
this was the first time i heard the original version...and all i can say is WOW...i just knew the cover called "Carpe Noctem" of the Musical Tanz der Vampire...but Meat Loaf's version is sooo awesome!
This is my first time listening to Meat's version, and for now, I can't decide which version I like better, his, or the version from "Dance of the Vampires/Tanz der Vampire". I'll do some comparisons, listening to this some more times (for I have a subconscious block from forming an opinion first time I hear a song new to me), then compare it to the musical's version. By the way, is those lines "Dies irae, Kyrie..." Latin? I can't quite tell myself what language it is.
I think both versions are good but "Carpe Noctem-Fühl die Nacht" is the original. Although I like"Carpe Noctem" best because "Tanz der Vampire" is my favourite musical. Love it ♥ !!
This song is amazing!!! Did anyone realize that the guitar riff at places like 2:48 is very similar to the ones in "Good Girls go to Heaven (but the bad girls go everywhere)"...which is weird cuz good girls was written by stienman and this wasn't lol. But amazing song I love the whole album!!!
Sure this song was written by Jim Steinman. The Intro is based on The Storm (also used in the Overture of the Musical Dance of the Vampires) and the Rest of the Song is based on Carpe Noctem (also from the Musical Dance of the Vampires).
Ah, just checked up on it, you're right. He wrote the original book as well as the lyrics. Jim Steinman wrote the music for the play and Steve Margoshes orchestrated it. (Although I'm not entirely sure what that means in this context)
I fell in love with Meat Loaf in the late 70's and will always love him! No one can move me like his music does!

Kyrie is greek, the other words are latin, it's a christian prayer

It is actually a mixture of Greek and Latin. Dies irae is latin for "Day of Wrath." Kyrie is Greek for "O Lord."

it was written in German and translated into English ... which is curious because Jim Steinman's (the guy who wrote it) native language is English.

Did Steinman do the lyrics? I thought Michael Kunze did and Steinman did the music itself?
