  • @ScienceWinsEveryTime Yeah, I just can't shake that feeling.

  • Who could believe that "Mountain Goats" could be the Gods of lyrics!

  • This song reminds me of a guy...is his name Green, or is he just wearing a green shirt...or is it both? Walking through New York City, his last walk, taking in the home he is seeing for the last time, saying goodbye before beginning his next adventure...

  • Sure John Green brought me here! But I do really like the music.

As they say in my home town...Best Wishes and DFTBA!

  • @FlargTheKitty Hank is an electronic data storage device, often used as computer memory, implemented on a semiconductor-based integrated circuit. Examples of Hank include non-volatile memory such as Read-only memory (ROM), magnetoresistive random access memory (MRAM), and flash memory.

  • @EmoWolfMaster One of the best answers I've seen thus far.

  • Dostoevsky led me here...

  • That opening shot looks exactly like a shot that I used for a science video once.

  • Ok, usually I am against love songs, but the Mountain Goats are my only exception.

  • @Medafets The Mountain Goats are *always* the exception.

  • John Green introduced me to good music and I never looked back.

  • stoner b jungleworker

  • Sent here by john green. Nerdfighers!!

  • Fans of the mountain goats would really like this band called Seraplane. I'm trying to help them out by spreading the word, so if you get the time search them on youtube!

  • You can chase happiness or run from pain. But you cant run from pain it will be there when you go to bed and before breakfast.Happiness lets you forget but pain forces you too hope. You say this cant last, today could be different but all you can do is hope for just one good day and on that day you say something just might change.

  • when he saw his face reflected in his victim's twinkling eye... god, why can't the songs that get on the top song list be written like this? I mean come on, the music industry constantly Forgets to be awesome

  • Some songs feel like a familiar blanket wrapped around you, embracing you to make you feel better <3

  • So much more poetic than "Like baby baby baby OOHH!!!!" <3

  • Feel free to judge me but keep the verdict to yourself

  • I was just chillin, watchin super old Brotherhood 2 videos, and I needed to find this song :D

  • there are 12 very bitter people somewhere out there

  • @Jogginforcancer But Mountain Goats songs are wonderful to be bitter to. Not saying that they aren't also great to be happy to.

  • what's that sound @0:36 ?

  • @nwknwk sounds like bamboo windchimes to me

  • raping the repeat button :)

  • I needed a song with poetic devices for a project. I immediately thought of this song.

p.s. John led me to my discovery of the Mountain Goats.

  • raskolnikov felt sick but he couldn't say why

when he saw his face reflected in his victim's twinkling eye.

    nerdfighters

  • RIp Kurt Cobain

  • First time I heard this. The first verse made me weep. Not cry, it just forced tears to my eyes once. It was weird, but also awesome.

Did I mention I now love this song?

  • @Jordrake44 The Mountain Goats-

Songs so poignant you're not sure why you're feeling the feelings you're feeling as you feel them.

  • @MrEdLoop well said.

  • First time I heard this song, it was a vlogbrothers video, and I cried. I will always feel bittersweet when I hear it.

  • you, come, john green, thumb, comment, up, DFTBA

  • @PunksWithGuns Sorry. Morrel Orel years ago. I'm never brought to these kinds of vids by the person mentioned in these kinds of comments.

  • @mauiboynokaoi +1. Me too. So technically, Dino Stamatopoulous introduced us both to John.

Last season of Morel Orel was made for John to do the soundtrack.

  • I barely got into this band a couple days ago, and This guy can write a song.

Id have to say Jack White, This Guy, Pete Townshend are my favorite lyricist now(:

  • @WinkingNinja What, no Leonard Cohen?

  • Love it.

  • Moral Orel

  • For you to truly hate someone, you have to love them at some point.

  • i think 11 people are free basing cocaine.

  • I like the way you shot and cut this, it's very simple and intuitive. Leaving a blank black screen up to emphasize the song was smart, and I liked how you ended by cutting between the same shots again more quickly at the end was great

  • fuck mainstream shit this shit is real

  • @allemort its not shit, its gold

  • cobain used a shotgun

  • is there a way to like the same video more than once?

  • @thechad899 yeah. you can like something once a day.

  • Love hurts. It's suppose to. Love this song.

  • el video la caga ¬¬

  • oh man the transcripted lyrics are creepy as hell

  • i really love when songs actually mean something. this one is amazing.

  • "Love is never any better than the lover. Wicked people love wickedly, violent people love violently, weak people love weakly, stupid people love stupidly... the lover alone possesses his gift of love" - Toni Morrison, "The Bluest Eye"

I think that quote applies nicely here.

  • wow, Anemone9, that was enlightening :D

  • I only know of The Mountain Goats because of John and Hank Green. I could never get this song out of my head after hearing it in John's walk video

  • All I can say? Nerdfighters.

  • @Davidovichification Yes, you can say

  • @Davidovichification NERFHERDERS!

  • Love love love the Crime & Punishment reference. <3

  • I love this song but for some reason I love Spots1327's descricption and video even more. Better than any studio music video by far. Thank you

  • WOW

  • What album is this on?

  • @ganstamannirvana93

This is was on Come, Come to the Sunset Tree. The album that centers around his childhood and family.

  • @OxenfreePoetry This version is on The Sunset Tree. Come Come to the Sunset Tree is a different limited edition version where it's only John with his guitar. There are also slightly different songs on both albums.

  • @obermegalutschoar

Hmm. I was not aware. That's so interesting. Thanks!

  • Why have I made it to 23 years young without hearing of the Mountain Goats or Jon Darnielle until now? His songs are absolutely remarkable and need to be heard by everyone. Even though they are short songs, they take so long to be able to decipher every lyric in them. He is an amazing song writer!

  • Explanation for the 9 dislikes!!!

the brain is not fully developed until the age of about 21

therefore its young ass kids who do not have a fully developed abstract thought process

personally i blame MTV for glorifying terrible artists

F lady gaga shes annoying and probobbly has a chemical imbalance

  • @mrfrosty8172 I resent that, I am fifteen and i hate mainstream music. Its not age, its just idiocy and human compultion to follow the crowd that gets popular music popular.

  • @wizardoftoast mostly its the brain

in psychology class i learned things that blew my mind everyday

from the day people are born they're personality is being shaped

group polarization is just a small part

words and metaphors that bring up old memories good or bad, play a significant role in how people respond to things (wether they know it or not)

and its not arrogance or ignorance, its just me being to lazy to try and attempt to answer a question that take more than 1comment to respond to

  • I believe the reason is arrogance and ignorance such as those words. In order to enjoy music you have to appreciate all aspects of music (all genres) even if you don't listen to them. music repeats itself everywhere doesn't matter where or who is playing it, its a matter of appreciation and a little part of your heart that makes music what it is too you.

  • I have honestly never heard a Mountain Goats song that I didn't like.

  • Comment removed

  • Question about the Tiger Balm, is that for the hand of the boxer or does it go on the outside of the glove to make the blows sting more?

  • I always didn't feel quite right in believing that God and love were benevolent forces. I can, however, believe that they are both forces of nature that do great and horrible things. I love God and everything, but I could never believe that he was always our definition of good.

  • For the people saying this is not love i hate to tell you that your idea of love is merely perspective not a fact. Love can not be defined by one person everyone sees love a little different or a lot. It is based off of emotion for the most part save for a few people which means we react in a emotional way and some times that includes destructive and violent behavior. And the bible really? You have never read anything about gods love that involves destruction? Every first born son ring a bell?

  • I really like the how the video goes black as the song keeps playing then at the end the frenzied rain and wind...

  • Beautiful song. I love how it's a love song with a beautiful melody, but not with the typical mushy-gushy lyrics. It's actually deep.

  • the quote from Corinthians 12 "now we see things as in a mirror dimly, then see each other face to face" in this context is about how love can blind you at first and you see only a blurred image of the object of affection, but eventually you will see them for who they really are, and like wise they you. the rest of the song seems to be about the fact that love is a destructive force. some of the greatest follies in history are acts done out of "love"

  • Actually kind of reminds me of old school Dashboard Confessional. Pretty legit band/song.

  • I think this song is about how love isn't good or bad, it just is. Sometimes love drives us to do unforgivable things, and doing something out of love doesn't necessarily mean it will be good.

  • this actually made me get gosebumps

  • shout out to crime and punishment! XD I'm reading it just now. Oh, Raskolnikov . . . .

  • I love the rain and the mountain goats

  • "... but, the things you do for love are gonna come back to you one by one." Karma... believe it.

  • rhgfh

  • 8 people disliked this video. That's out of 361, mind you, but I still feel really bad for those 8.

  • King Saul fell on his sword, when it all went wrong

  • Yes Sneha, I love, love, love you. And that is what I am trying to say.
