OH MY GOD!! THAT DOG IS GOING TO TOTALLY LEARN THE HARD CRUEL WAY!! HAhahaha That is funny.
CHILL OUT GUYS! The owner isn't letting his dog play with a fucking RATTLE SNAKE or something deadly (the skunk clearly doesn't have rabies, I've seen rabid ones, they don't act like that at all).
I love this video. Shows just how much patience a wild skunk has before they spray. Also, it was not showing any signs of rabies, which means the dog was pretty darn safe. Doggy will not chase any skunks (or maybe even black cats!) again after this. This is a good lesson, under supervision, because many wild skunks DO carry rabies. Now she will never get close enough to one again for that problem to present itself!
we just got a blas tof skunk juice here at 6 am this morn., we are in third floor apartment and I just came back from talking to manager to complain about some one smoking some god awefull strong kush or ?? and it blowing in on us,
turns out the manager was outside at the time and seen the darn skunk and dog .....good thing I went to see him first....yeeshk it was some bad ass reek....
what the hell is with people getting all righteous saying '*gasp* this is wrong! you're so cruel! how dare you let that happen/not help the skunk/not help your dog, YOU'RE A TERRIBLE PERSON!'
eh, hello...it's a DOG! and she seems young too. clearly all you people have never actually owned one, which of course, gives you the perfect platform to look down your perfect little noses at those who actually do.
@tfb4me Yes, you are right. When it comes to dealing with animals, my dog has a lot of pre-wired internal knowledge. But she also teaches herself from experience, like humans do. If something had gone wrong and serious injury resulted to either, it would have been a learning experience for the animals and for us. For an interesting article on how humans are special and different from animals, see Differences Between Humans and Animals on the answersingenesis website.
@tfb4me Not to mention that you insult me for how I treat the dog. That dog eats the best dog food I can buy topped with supper leftovers, sleeps indoors, has a fenced in yard, and a family that loves her and plays with her and includes her on family outings. The video clip shows 90 seconds of her life when she saw a skunk. This is not the big picture. And by the way, don't you think the dog is smart enough to close her eyes and hold her breath while biting a skunk?
@tfb4me Furthermore, I may be wrong, but I think you just don't understand animals. You are not dealing with how people should treat children, but rather how people should treat dogs. Are they the same to you? Children were not made to catch and eat rodents, but some dog breeds were. If this were a child and a skunk, I would agree with you for complaining, and I would also agree with your specific complaints. But this is a dog. She is a hunter. You really insult my dog and her abilities.
@tfb4me Thanks for the info. but I think you are a worry wart. My dog was fine. She immediately recovered. Why are you on YouTube watching dogs and skunks and what they do to each other if you don't have the stomach for it? I cannot predict exactly what's going to happen when animals meet, but I can observe, and I warned my dog repeatedly. I wish I could show you my dog killing squirrels, chipmunks, rabbits, rats and moles. My wife and I envy the life my dog lives. She is well cared for.
I have a question for you who say I shouldn't allow my dog to chase rodents. How would you stop Suzie from playing with the skunk? You see, dogs have instincts. They follow their instincts better than their master. Suzie spends several hours every day chasing anything that crawls. I can't stop her, and wouldn't want to. Is there danger involved? Of course. It's fun talking to your dog like you would a child, but never forget that they are not children. They are dogs.
It seems that many viewers who comment want to tell me the dangers to my dog. It all happened really fast. My dog and I were both equally curious about the skunk. It was at a very rural place that I go to once or twice a year. We were likely never to see the skunk again. I was observing the skunk, and my dog just got in the way. The chance to observe a baby skunk in the wild might come once in a lifetime. I wasn't thinking about the dog. I was enjoying the skunk! Wouldn't you?
@TheHodgeson07 Sounds like I'm lucky compared to what you had to deal with. American Eskimo's have amazing fur. It seems to be self-cleaning. This was the second day that my dog played with that skunk on a 10 acre lakefront property. The previous day the skunk simply waddled away through a fence to a cow pasture and my dog stayed with me. This was the second morning. My dog is no swimmer, but she's an expert at killing or toying with rodents. I'm no idiot. And neither is my dog.
@popeye9090 This was not a smart thing to do. I agree that your dog could have been blinded. Eskies do have self-cleaning fur -- I know, because I have had six Eskies -- but, when it comes to skunks, they are just like any other dog.
Not necessarily cruel, but you can teach a dog to ignore a skunk in other ways. There's a possibility that this may just teach a dog to fear skunks as a threat and they may go on to treat others with equal levels of anxiety - with similar results.
Warning! If you leave obscene comments I will block you and delete your comment. And if you have nothing better to do than go online and--just because someone tried to brighten YOUR day by sharing a hilarious thing he experienced, call him vulgar names, I pity you. Get a life, please!
respecto dude! its great you can share the great times with your dog. I agree you did the right things and let the dog interact but were making sure that it wouldn't hurt the skunk... just have an experience.
Wow! Apply that logic to children and I'm afraid people shouldn't let their kids around other children. Children sometimes hurt children intentionally or unintentionally, and they also carry infectious diseases, etc. My dog at home tackles things worse than that baby skunk. She kills moles, rats, chipmunks, yellow jackets, and an occasional squirrel, and she alerts me to any strange person or animal approaching. I'm so thankful to have my dog.
Skunks spray is -very- potent, when exposed to mucus membranes or the face in general it acts like mace pepper spray sort of in a way due to its potency, skunks aim for the eyes, it temporarily renders predators at bay with a few exceptions. - I wouldn't let any of my animals around a wild creature such as this if you paid me, just as i wouldn't let a child do the same either - wild animals spread fleas which in turn carry tapeworms or other parasites which can spread (or jump) to ur animal.
Someone posted that I was cruel to let that happen and the person wished to report me to some organization that protects animals. I removed sisgroup's post because he or she was rude and called me names. Hey, God gave my dog all the protection she needs from other animals, and He gave the skunk some defenses, too. This wasn't staged--just observed. The skunk and my dog were doing whatever came natural. Neither was hurt. My dog needed no help from me and was in my van for 2 hours next day.
@popeye9090 The dog did learn a lesson. Never trust your owner's sick sense of humor. Your dog does have all the protection she needs, and hopefully the intelligence to disregard the blind trust she has developed for her owner.
Thanks for all the nice comments! I'm thrilled that Suzie and her adventurous spirit brightens your day! Over a year later she is still a loyal companion and a fun dog to have.
Honest video and funny. The dog was just playing with the skunk even she tried to bite. Lesson was learned. Look at her tail after ditching her sprayed nose to the grass. She'll probably think twice again to a black and white-furry critter whether she gets near it or not. Hahaha.
No pain, no gain. A lesson bought is better than a lesson taught. If at first you don't succeed, try try again. Need I say more? Besides, without doing anything to her, she rode home with us in the van the next day for 2 hours. She didn't stink. Her breath smelled like a skunk, but she was just fine.
Ahaha!! thats so funny! my dog got sprayed by a skunk last nite in her left eye! ahh it smells! man i have no idea what happened but that is jus too funny and poor dog too..
The skunk actually sprayed Suzie in the mouth! The smell came off her fur in a couple of days, but it was a full month before her breath smelled like anything but skunk spray. I think whatever the cost, to her it was worth it to bite that skunk! :)
