I'm pretty sure that it was all President Abraham Lincoln's fault, before him "Americans", would identify more with their state, Virginians, South Carolinians, etc. Americans suffer from an Identity crisis, I think that they should just call themselves New English or Perhaps New Germans since the biggest ethnicity, European Ethnicity, is German
Hi, your English is great (the 3 of you). personally, i'm not bothered when i listen to estadounidenses referring to themselves as americans.i`d never call myself americano (im from Argentina, where r u from btw?) anyway. Since their country is United States of America and they cannot say im a united stater (?), the only possibility left is American.

perhaps because we were the first country to declare our independence in the americas, and it's in the name "united states of america" so people say "americans" for short. no other country has "america" in their name.
i dont understand why this is unfair. f i were from another country in the americas, i wouldn't want to be called american! i would want to distance myself from this ruthless empire responsible for so much war and hunger in the world hahaha seriously!
Simplemente no existe.
in english if we say we are "united states-ian" it would sound weird. we can't make a name out of united states or something like how you say "estadounidense".... hahaha I have no idea.
