A lot of it has to do with the way our culture sees men as having the 'superior' gender. First, I agree with you. I am a gay woman, and I can say that unless you're a "lipstick lesbian", you are made fun of and criticized by straight men (I have never had a problem with straight women). I personally am butch, which makes my sexuality kind of worn on my sleeve, and I think many butch lesbians have many of the same issues that gay men do (although, not to the same extent). It's the lipstick lesbians who are viewed as acceptable in society. But, there are far more lipstick than butch.

Interesting. One point that got edited out of my video is that anyone who I have come across at work has been supportive of the GLBT community. I lived with Heteros, Gays and Straights in the same house hold and we were all treated the same and also at work. I haven't experienced much differences or this stereotype in Melbourne or Vancouver so I guess I am lucky.

First, it's challenging to express this in a foreign language - I don't want to offend you or anyone who reads this! So please don't spread the word, lesbians get not bullied or less bullied. We all have our struggles and we all have different experiences.
2nd: Bullying comes in very different forms and shapes. And boys/men and girls/women use other ways to bully. I was bullied by classmates for being a lesbian long before I identified myself as one. It's about called names, not being allowed to use the same restrooms before sport/swimming classes, gotten beat up. Later, when I came out little by little I was offended and threadend because "I've never been fucked" and "I have to show you".
3rd. When women bully, it's more subtle and not that physical aggresiv. They don't beat each other up, but threatend with words and ignorance more than men.

A lot of it has to do with the way our culture sees men as having the 'superior' gender. So of course it's fine for a woman to dress/act more masculine because acting like this is 'superior,' but it doesn't make sense at all in terms of our culture for a man to want to act/dress like a woman. First, I agree with you. I am a gay woman, and I can say that unless you're a "lipstick lesbian", you are made fun of and criticized by straight men (I have never had a problem with straight women). I personally am butch, which makes my sexuality kind of worn on my sleeve, and I think many butch lesbians have many of the same issues that gay men do (although, not to the same extent). It's the lipstick lesbians who are viewed as acceptable in society. But, there are far more lipstick than butch.

I lived with Heteros, Gays and Straights in the same house hold and we were all treated the same and also at work. Ok.. Ive given this some thought more than once. Heres why straight guys are threatened by gay guys and why they can watch girl on girl but not guy on guy..
Point 1: Guy on Guy causes straights to think about anal sex. They cant picture something going up there that DOESNT cause pain and how it relates to THEM.
Point 2: they are afraid that if they like a guy giving them BJs, they will like it and that means they are gay.

Just a quick comment that a lot (most) of the "lesbian porn" out there is not for lesbians. It's for straight men and therefore it supports stereotypes of lesbians as straight male fantasies and NOT realistic while also not threatening to straight culture.

This kind of issue could go on and on but in real matters gay people are not accepted just any where you are in America. Women are still considered sexual objects to be at the service and pleasure of heterosexual men. And there is no apparent threat seeing a woman with another because she has no penis. Also given the fact much of history showed it to be true that many en had multiple wives and when they wouldn't lay with certain one. These women comforted each other. There is alot of what you said true about kids dressing differently and what is acceptable. Tho this is really location based. Many places would beat or punish a girl for being a tomboy. I do still believe that gay men have it worse. But there are girls that commit suicide for being gay. Mainly many suicides are not fully credited to this cause many don't report what they know. Bullying. Journals. Etc.

I was sitting around with my roommates watching one of them play Skyward Sword when the villain of the game was finally revealed. The guy is really androgynous; until he says his name you can't tell if it's a male or a female character. And I could tell my roommates were unsettled by how this character looked by their comments about him. I think western culture puts a lot of rules on straight guys and they all know they have to play by the rules or else be ridiculed by their peers.
