Also if you watch closely Rafa starts to raise the finger as if to challenge just right before the out call is made. So in that case he would have stopped the play himself believing that the ball was out and thus lost the point since the challenge would have showed the ball to be in. Typically Rafa using gamesmanship whenever he can!
its funny that everytime rafa argues with the umpire the commentators alweys said yes rafa is right xD!? then i mean... rafa argues alweys when its unfair play, not cause he is angry or is lossing.
the awesome part about this video? is remembering how Rafa controlled his rage inwards and systematically demolished Soderling because he was the only target he could direct the anger towards. that was an amazing Rafa. Soderling couldn't do a thing after that.
@jokerpoker87 Because the linesman calls Sederling's ball out, so it's Rafa's point unless hawkeye says different. But it's pretty much a norm today to replay the rally, when the call is made around the time the player hits the ball, which is a good thing.
if you look very closely, you'll see that rafa hit the ball after the linesman called out, so rafa already intended to stop the point, Rafa was wrong here.
This umpire is shit, i do not know how he can preside over these big tournaments. I see people argue alot with this guy and he makes bad calls alot, I just happen to see this is a trend on alot of the videos that players get into arguements with the umpire.
Tsk, Pascal, have you forgotten what Safin told you?? "If you are not sure then don't call it, man. ...don't you see what's gonna happen? I cannot argue and you have all the power!"
Rafa's actually/ wrong. If you watch the point the call clearly comes after Nadal has already hit his shot. On some YouTube videos you might question the quality of sound, but you can also tell from watching the point based on the sound of the players hitting the ball and Nadal's grunts, that the sound is properly in sync with the video. Nadal is wrong, but the issue is that in some cases, other chair umpires would say replay the point. Too many inconsistencies with the challenge system.
@federergreatclass And we wonder why people dislike Federer and his fans haha. You are such a great troll man I feel like giving you a high-five. Maybe you are angry Nadal was owning Federer until Djokovic stepped in and started owning both of them.
Rafa isn't right.Look carefully at 0:25 he hits the ball and then the line judge says:"out".So logically he hit the ball thinking that the point would go on as far as there wasn't any call from the line judges or from the umpire..and look how he changes his words at 1:07 and then at 1:32 he said the opposite. That wasn't a nice gesture for him,but I think he did that because of the didfficult situation he was in this case.Great break point save by him by the way.It shows how strong menthaly he is
Just like swordsman808 a few comments down I am not a Nadal fan... But I do think that in this case he was correct, that ball should have been replayed
I like nadal, but it does seem like he made the decision to hit that backhand before the linesman called the ball out. It was around the same time but he did hit it before the call, if you replay it a couple times.
@disneylover160 I wouldn't say the call was before Rafa hit the ball, but about the same time. Remember that light (the image) travels faster than sound and if you watch the clip very carefully you'll see that there's a slight sound delay. @nymerie i dont think nadal cares what the other players think of him. and him celebrating gets himself pumped up..its a mental game. and it gets into his opponents head. ya dig?
@nymerie He did make the point himself, he dragged that guy all around the court until his the only thing his opponent could do was hit a weak slice and it landed in the net. Those shots Nadal made that point were very well hit and placed. I also do not see why celebrating a good point like that, especially after a crappy call, is a bad thing. People need confidence and a fist pump is not offensive to anyone except maybe you ;).
nadal is wrong the out call came after he had hit the ball, therefore it was his fault for hitting it into the net when he thought it was out himself. if no out call was made he would have challenge and lost the point...

@bananatree1234567 No but the line judge was right beside Rafa, while the microphone was probably some distance away therefore his call would've reached Nadal a split second before it reached the microphone, which means the TV footage makes it seem like the call came slightly after Nadal hit the ball.
the question is whether the out call from the linesman came before or after nadal hits his shot. if it comes before then the point has to be replayed cause the player could have been distracted by the call. its hard to tell that on a youtube vid cause you never know if the sound is in proper sync with the video. but i must say it does actually look a bit like nadal was going to stop the rally anyhow being sure it was out and if he does that and hes wrong then he loses the point.

WTF is wrong with this ump? Soderling hit the ball out so they should have replayed the point after the challenge showed the shot was good. What a dumbass
@caxus15 He didn't make an error there, are everybody stupid ? Nadal hit the ball before the line person made his call, thus soderling has the point rightfully. To replay the point Nadal has to hit the ball back in play before the call, or hit the ball regardless how and where, after the call. Weird rule, but it makes totally sense that this point goes to soderling, Nadal had hit the net before he even knew that Soderling ball was called out (thinking that it was in, since there was no call).
What is is about soderling that brings the worst in Rafa? Their Matches are always so irritating to watch. You can just tell that they hate each other so much.
Umpire is absolutely right and you have to say good decision! Watch as many times as you like 0:23 . It was called out after the shot was hit, mid way through to the net. The commentators are blind themselves, idiots...
the way he played the very next point proves his incredible mental strenght. ANY other player in the world would have lost that point by hitting an unforced error or by sending the ball in the outter space at the second forehand. nadal just erased that moment and started playing one second later like nothing happened, made soderling run, played upon the lines and dominated from that moment on.
The rules are the rules and Rafa was right. Rafa Nadal does not cheat. Anyone who has an 83% winning percentage on all court surfaces does so with courage, skill, and pure power. Please do not make inaccurate statements about one of the best athletes in history.
@sandyhism sorry, but not one of the top 100 tennis players could be considered one of the best athletes in history. Tennis requires more skill than athleticism.
@EdMajinLee199999 so you're saying that someone who can play 5 sets of tennis for 4+ hours has no athleticism? Give me a break.... Americans can't seem to comprehend a sport that doesn't involve macho violence.
@hammerhead001 yes, that is what I am saying. Any of the top 100 Tennis players could play for 10+ hours if they had to. The only reason Nadal stands out is because of his tennis ability, not his athleticism.
@EdMajinLee199999 Tennis players have weak stamina compared to other sportsmen and nadal is trained according to soccer fitness. Its a smart move by his uncle because this is most atp players' weakness. The point is everybody can play for 10 hours including me and u, but their level drop significantly after 1 to 1 1/2 sets. Nadal has stamina that other players don't have, back then when he was kid if his technique was good and he was not losing, he didn't need to take up this kind of training.
I'm not a Rafa fan, but the umpire was wrong. One thing - Rafa should improve his english! Federer can speak 7 languages, Rafa can speak like 3 or 4 only.
The ball was called out after Rafa hit the ball. Everybody here can see that. I would react the same as he did though. But my matches aren't on YouTube, so there is no evidence of my cheating ;-)
The ball was called out and Rafa hit that ball in the net! Because he thought it was out! But on replay it shows it was in! Well the refere dosen`t consider they should replay the point because Rafa couldent have hit that ball on court that was called out! They should have replayed the point! That`s for sure!
Pfft, anyone ACTUALLY watching knows Nadal is cheating. He hits the ball before the linesman calls out. Its deceiving because Nadal wanted to challenge the call after he hit it because HE believed it was out. End of story.
@MeltedButterCorp dumbass, he stated the truth, if the player makes contact with a ball after its called out and challenge said its in, you replay the point,we could all say, Typical Murray, being a suck up through his match. Learn what your saying before you comment like that
right, so the people who are saying that rafa has to cheat his way through matches obviously didn't have the sound turned on...rafa was right the umpire was wrong. even the comentators agree with him.
@MeltedButterCorp you have no idea what you are talking about. so acoording to you nadal cheated his way on to being the top player in the world? nice one douchebag.
@MeltedButterCorp lol when did he cheat ? are you fuckin retarded or what ? please gimme one example when rafa was cheating....dude get a life,he's one of the best tennis players ever ( best ever on clay ) and you say he cheats...anyway how is it possible to cheat in tennis with the chair umpire , hawk eye and 10 line umpires ? what are you like 12 ? get a life
@Rafathaman94 this is for rafathaman and everyone else to see. ignore this spastic's pro nadal comments. He obviously has a pro nadal mental complex and shouldn't be taken very seriously. enough said
Idk if I am the one and only person out there but the hawk seems to cause more issues then help. I feel it isn't fair because once the call is made why should the hitter get a seconded chance or if it is called in why should the receiver get a chance to a free point with no response from the hitter. Idk I like and I don't like.

The rules are the rules and Rafa was right. Rafa Nadal does not cheat. Anyone who has an 83% winning percentage on all court surfaces does so with courage, skill, and pure power. Please do not make inaccurate statements about one of the best athletes in history.
sandyhism 8 months ago 2
@sandyhism sorry, but not one of the top 100 tennis players could be considered one of the best athletes in history. Tennis requires more skill than athleticism.

@EdMajinLee199999 so you're saying that someone who can play 5 sets of tennis for 4+ hours has no athleticism? Give me a break.... Americans can't seem to comprehend a sport that doesn't involve macho violence.
hammerhead001 8 months ago
@hammerhead001 yes, that is what I am saying. Any of the top 100 Tennis players could play for 10+ hours if they had to. The only reason Nadal stands out is because of his tennis ability, not his athleticism.
EdMajinLee199999 8 months ago

Beechaii2 9 months ago
@Beechaii2 he's a tennis player, i didnt know that meant you have to speak at least 7 languages?! i think 3 or 4 is pretty impressive!
originaltobster 8 months ago
@originaltobster dude, Rafa's english is terrible! Bad grammer and everything!

Rafa is right, he should had been allowed to replay the point...

The ball was called out after Rafa hit the ball. Everybody here can see that. I would react the same as he did though. But my matches aren't on YouTube, so there is no evidence of my cheating ;-)
gert74 9 months ago
Rafa is right! those who think he is cheating don't know the rules!
aki31286 9 months ago
@MeltedButterCorp he was actually not cheating , he was absolutely right
krishu1997 9 months ago
The ball was called out and Rafa hit that ball in the net! Because he thought it was out! But on replay it shows it was in! Well the refere dosen`t consider they should replay the point because Rafa couldent have hit that ball on court that was called out! They should have replayed the point! That`s for sure!
Radu87ro 9 months ago
Pfft, anyone ACTUALLY watching knows Nadal is cheating. He hits the ball before the linesman calls out. Its deceiving because Nadal wanted to challenge the call after he hit it because HE believed it was out. End of story.

samuel123xyz 9 months ago
@MeltedButterCorp dumbass, he stated the truth, if the player makes contact with a ball after its called out and challenge said its in, you replay the point,we could all say, Typical Murray, being a suck up through his match. Learn what your saying before you comment like that
ElectricalCloud 9 months ago
right, so the people who are saying that rafa has to cheat his way through matches obviously didn't have the sound turned on...rafa was right the umpire was wrong. even the comentators agree with him.
hallytennant 9 months ago
@MeltedButterCorp you have no idea what you are talking about. so acoording to you nadal cheated his way on to being the top player in the world? nice one douchebag.
kzabdi0 9 months ago

@Rafathaman94 What was it then. Explain his action at that particular time.
