Heh, you don't have much choice when you say gaming - windows. There is not much choice. This is not choice at all. When you say for gaming I use windows - you literally talk what microsoft wants you to talk. This is wrong.

Why? Simple. If same amount of games were available on windows and linux, who would use windows? No one.

@pkemrin it is true that most viruses were never written for linux and due to multiple distributions some viruses need to be coded specifically for certain ones and the fact that fewer computers run it. it is not that linux "resists" the virus - it is that linux doesn't even understand them in the first place.

Either Ubuntu , EITHER MAC , has the freedom to create easily , without any coding hassle , and to make it work. I'm not with Windows , but , Windows has for now all the important softwares , games , and the ability to use modules. So far I CAN DO the same with windows , then anyone else on MAC or Linux , but you can't do on LINUX OR MAC then what I DO ON WINDOWS. Each OS has its own drawbacks , so does WINDOWS , which are the viruses , but who the hell cares? Anything can be fixed.

Kinda, but if you think about it, if iTunes, iMovie, iWork, Photoshop, etc were all open-source 3rd party apps, wouldn't you choose them over at least some of their Linux equivalents?

I'm not sayin that Ubuntu doesn't have a few advantages over OS X and Windows, but every time I install Linux it's gone in a few days because I either miss those apps, or there are some serious driver problems. Maybe when Linux gets more mature I won't be as hesitant.

I do love Gnome and KDE though :)

You actually *like* iTunes? Try Songbird and you will *never* miss iTunes. It's like iTunes should be. And you can use it in Windows and Mac, too. I do have Songbird running in a Mac, cause it actually works better.

And iWork? No, not really. I prefer NeoOffice (or OpenOffice for Windows and Linux, same thing). Cheaper and does the same thing (and, yay, python scripting).

But, yes. Photoshop. The Gimp is fantastic for some things but... it's still lacking.

Graphics sucks , if you run a complex program UBUNTU stops responding , other than that if you have a latest nVidia card you can throw your pc into the garbage ... while Windows give you the option to run thousands of Thrid Party apps , and you don't have to use their Bundled Apps which is true , they suck. So? Stick up your UBUNTU your ass , and do like a pinguin. Have fun!

1) The bundled apps are third party. They're fine, and have full support from Canonical, which is great. You can still use other apps if you want, but they think those are ok (and me too).

2) I have a GeForce 4000 MX (i.e., the worst graphics card) and I can use the 3D desktop cube quite well (not perfect, but still). And in my experience, it never froze.

By the way, all that 3rd party windows software you talk about is likely not free in any sense.

Dreamworks , and Pixar use Linux clusters , and renderfarms...

Pixar makes RenderMan for Linux, and Autodesk make Maya 3D for Linux...

But the computers they render 3D are way more powerful than anything we have...

Linux is meant to be used as servers, and clusters... it's not really a Desktop OS, but it's becoming more of one every day.

OSX works on intel chipset x86 now. Theres a way to do it if you have the OS Install disc for it, google it up :)

Far as I know if you legally own the OSX OS Disc then its legal? Only difference is its not meant to be installed on custom PC's as its only meant for hardware used in mac's, community is helping to fix that though.

Worked pretty well for me.

It was a pain in the ass to install, but once I got it working Leopard was running just fine.
