  • he's the poet of everday life ..

  • Beautiful/heart felt

  • Always loved Loudon, for many many years. It always amazes me how many people do not know of his music. Just a thought, Great words.

  • Man, this guy is amazing

  • It is a great skill to write confessionally as it were, and not sound mawkish; Hank Williams was an early example – possibly the earliest – of someone who could write in the first person and just move you. Dylan’s ‘Simple twist of fate’ is a masterful example....but Loudon is brilliant.

  • found his music on a movie thank god for that movie

  • QA ANYONE KNOW THESE CHORDS

  • "I've grown a gray beard but I cry like a kid"

  • SO FUCKING RAW AND EMOTIONAL. SO HEAVY AND DEEP.

  • @peskirabbit: "Act of courage".....best description of Loudon I've ever heard. Fearless and naked. Amazing artist to let us share his life so completely. Special privilege. If only all of us could work out our demons in our own songs.....

  • What a wonderful honest song

  • The line "They say in the end your good friends pull you through, but everyone knows my best friend was you" really hits me hard.

  • @alpur214

    Same here.

  • Who are the four idiots who hit the DISLIKE thumb???

This song is so beautiful, with such a heartfelt delivery..... how could anyone not like it?

  • This song breaks my heart everytime I listen to it.

  • laudon is a great poet .

  • The first time I heard this song was a show of his outside of philly... about a year after the passing of my mother... it emotionally floored me... and I am not afraid to say so...

  • The performance was taped for 'Austin City Limits' on

July 29th, 1998, and first aired in April of 1999.

The song appeared on Wainwright's 2001 album, 'Last Man on Earth'.

  • This song is such a powerful piece of music.. Absolutely beautiful song.

I come by often & listen, because its just that fine a piece of artistry..

  • I'm proud to say the first live concert I ever saw (1978) was Loudon Wainwright III. I like his songs just as much now as I did 30 years ago. Nobody writes songs like he does. Funny, poignant, topical, insightful, heartbreakingly honest...

  • how could i go my whole life and not know this song?

    crazy beautiful.

    Thanks for this song Loudon.

  • I told ya bro.. What a beautiful song!

  • grande loudon!!

  • I think my favorite song of all butthere are so many All are beautiful Thankyou for bringing them to me

  • What a wonderful song Touched my heart really made me cry. Such beautiful Lyrics Thankyou

  • His songs are beautiful. There is truth and honesty in his writing.

  • Absolutely.

  • Yes there is an honesty that can feel quite embarrassing at times, like someone being naked. It is one of his strengths that he can make that work.I admire people who can bring their private stuff out like this, its an act of courage.

  • Beautifully put. :)

  • @peskirabbit thats 4 sure

  • @peskirabbit That was beautifully said.

  • I like his voice more and more each time i hear it - there's some sort of honesty in it that I just can't quite figure out.

Also - i find him to be one of the most tastefull guitar players of his kind.

  • Why would you say hes better than Rufus? There both great! Theres no need to say ones better than the other...Just love the music and be happy weve got them both! peace!

  • I think he/she can say Loudon is 'better', subjective as it is.

You state"Just love the music and be happy."

I watched Rufus in concert with Kate & Anna, and during his session I was decidedly unhappy, and happy when Kate & Anna sang. So isnt it down to how you feel?

  • Loudon is ten times the singer/songwriter Rufus will ever pray to be.

  • i can´t listen it without tears in my eyes

  • I feel ya.

  • he is better now than ever.....

  • this is one of my fave songs of loudons, it's a very sad song but at the same time very true

  • loudons the best

  • wow, so glad i stopped to check out Loudon.

    He is so great!

Makin' me all teary eyed, if it aint Rufus, now his father 2!

  • wow...what a beautiful, sad song!
