To Hromosom: Where did you get this info about 80%??? That's not true. There are about 5% maximum of kazakhs, married on other nationalities. Kazakhstan needs its local nation to grow and kazakh people understand that also. People, please, don't put fake information here! A lot of people read the comments and then have the wrong view about the country.
Kazakhstan has a huge potential, and in next 10 years our country will be among 20 most developed countries!
Look guy i not been bad or anything but stay out of our business. DO NOT PUT YOUR NOSE AND YOU RULES IN OUR COUTRY !!! WE KNOW HOW USA and UK LOVE TO DO THAT!!! come and visit us only only as guest!!! and remember that do no bring you rules and you way of life to our coutry !!!
There plenty of americans living in Kazakhstan working in american companies. Some stay and decide to create a family. So eventually and gradually they Kazakhstanize.....and start learning kazakh language......some them succeed in that speaking even better then some kazakhs do.
I pity oil-rich nations, including the country that I live in, Canada. But thankfully Canada's oil fields are nastily unprofitable and its economy is large and diversified. Not many petro-producing countries really have got it good because oil money does more harm than good, and their source of income can always be cut off.
Ahah Mr. Dixon, you have the love of the Kazakh nation on this board. But more potent is the love of investment firms such as Goldman Sachs who, at the time that this video was posted, went all-in with the commodities boom and tried to promote the oil-rich nations as much as they could.
I do not share your excitement over Kazakhstan's economic growth. It's GDP still somewhere close to average of starving world. Economy grew a lot no doubts, while wealthy countries have 4 or more times Kazakhstan's gdp per capita.
Kazakhstan's economy already has recovered since 90s. But all the talks about economic growth indicate only growth, let's say it was 1/10 now it grew to 4/10 while countries with acceptable wealth have 8/10. overall i think there is not enough cause to be excited as kazakhstan's government and media is.
Thanks, for objective opinion. Our country is full of lack, but still there is a huge Hope to recover after USSR and to develope each and every single fields!
Yes, I have seen the oil industry seems rather good in Kazakhstan.
I have been looking at the company Roxi Petroleum and it seems like a really good company. A lot of investors are buying into it and it seems like Kazakhstan is getting a lot of foreign investors.
Anyway, is Kazahstan expected to grow quickly now?
Yes we have oil and other riches its all good I wish we could channel some of those money to infrastructure. Especially building better roads in and between cities. Traffic makes you sick in Almaty. People drive like mad. If it goes on like this, all city dwellers will loose their mental health. If I had choice, I would go overseas and come back after 30 years when all the mess clears out. Only then the oil wealth will trickle down to main street.
Who should clear the mess that you mentioned? Why don't YOU PARTICIPATE instead of going overseas and waiting that somehow everything will be done by someone else?!
keep in mind, this idea would be held in confidense of people of world. so, it would breed lucrativeness for struggling countries, while not killing exsisting industries, while also greatly impeeding world national and local economies.
diversity on financial backing is what makes world and national and local economies strong. Gold is one, credit cards another (ie electronic money) Space - realestate could be THE ANSWER to our tempory woes. Every ten years and every 100 years - ALLOTMENT (massively overly indilgent)- agrreded upon by all or most nations
if UN would not agree - can offer idea to other group of nations as a barganing chip. Mostly i think all will agree though. Implementation is fairly easy (:
Yes mineral resources can create wealth but also usually make it harder for any other kinds of business to export because mineral wealth means currency tends to go higher so exports of other things become more expensive.
believe me i am kazakh...all de things and fact about the kazakh economy its just a biiig fake ..and i am sure GDP is more less that it was told...all things are just simply big fake
when you live side by side for many years , eventually you will accept intermarriage. we don't ask why asians in the states marry white guys etc. it's acceptable, but not as common as you'd think it would be.
1/5 of marriages in Kazakhstan are inter-ethnic, 80% of these marriages are between Kazakhs and Russians, knowing this you may conclude that EVERY Kazakh family has a relatives of other than Kazakh origin? just like many Russians families have a Kazakh as a relative.
1/5 of marriages in Kazakhstan are inter-ethnic, 80% of these marriages are between Kazakhs and Russians, so it is easy to conclude that EVERY Kazakh family has a non- Kazakh relative (most likely Russian)
not too common... the reason is obvious - different culture, different religion, etc. Normally if a kazakh guy dates russian girl his family is not very happy about it (dont' know about Russian side). There are mixed marriages but I would say that happens more in the cities or among kazakhs who are more "russianized":) smth similar to white and black people in US - it happens, but not very often and families sometimes do not accept it. I dont know any kazakh woman married to russan man...
I think most of your info is out of date even for the date of adding the video...i don't know much about government spending level on education, but it is 14th in the world by the literacy rate, higher than the states..always had an over 99 percent literacy... the resource curse is a question... am not an economist...so my comments would be of minor value...and people moving into kz are not only highly skilled and russiansare coming back and stuff like that...a bit concerned about ur objectivity
could you please comment on the mortgage crisis that the hit Kazakh economy few months ago. If you can do so, do you think the Kazakh economy is going to follow the path than the American or the British economies are following right now for example many financial orgs. going bankrupt and housing prices are predicted to fall sharply in 2008.
I cannot comment on specifics of the real estate market in Kazakhstan as I do not know enough about it. But in other former Soviet bloc nations such as Ukraine there have been spectacular increases in real estate prices and corrections are inevitable. If prices have risen in a city 50% one year and 60% the next for example, it is easy to see how they could fall by - say - 50%.
thank you for answering the previsous question and sorry for attacking you with another one. Do you think that we can expect the real estate prices to rise once again in the coming years as it happened to the japanese real estate market in the 1990s after there was a bubble burst in the end of the 80s?
I think Kazakhstan, Russia, Iran, China and India (SCO) is the new superpower in future. much stronger than USA everbeen. And I think the West have the wrong opinion that this countruies should all adopt the Western Style om democracy.. I think is the WEST that will have to change becos of the SCO countries
Now our republic anticipates new step forward, however there are numbers of issues that have to be solved in near time. The prof. is saying truth about my republic, and i'd like to say that he made good research about my state. also, I'd like to say that there are no any race riots between kz and rus.
True, there aren't big racial problems in Kazakhstan compared to where i live now, Norway. And I had always thought that the Kazakh educational system contains russian traits namely discipline, good quality, etc. On the contrary, Norway's educational systems are one of the lowest in the world. i have to thank you Dr. Dixon, the video was very educational =D
How about all the nuclear waste, left from the Soviet era, when lots of nuclear tests were conducted? how dangerous is it to live there? is this nuclear waste now part of fruits and vegetables? strong winds of Kazakhstan must surely spread around the nuclear remains? lots of women there have breast cancer, which usually happens in countries with radioactive exposure (example Armenia); liver cysts seem to be well advanced, usually an indication of poor water filtration and various food chemicals?
Well the tests happened in a limited area many years ago. Remember that people live safely in cities like Hiroshima today. Also Kazakhstan is a country the size of W Europe. But I do not have any information on the specific issues you raise.
Do you expect the dispute over the giant Kashagan oil field to be resolved quickly with little fuss. What do you think will happen with ENI and other western investors in the consortium to develop the field?
The Kazakhstan development in Kashagan will continue to be a hot political issue as it is so large. So much money will be made by various companies that the general population may ask questions about whether the country is getting the best deal. For this reason I think the government will be sensitive to delays or things changing in the wider business environment which might make them want to renegotiate contracts made years previously.
The Russians destroyed the Kazakhstan's land and the Aral Sea. Aren't the Kazakhs hating the Russian minority for what they did the past in Kazakhstan? Are there race riots in Kazakhstan?
Russians form a significant minority of the Kazakhstan population, and the different communities live peacefully together. Every year around 50,000 Russian nationals leave (emigrate) and are balanced by a similar number of Kazakh nationals returning home.
I have never been to Bosnia but my AIDS foundation ACET is active in Slovenia and Croatia as well as 21 other nations and I hope one day we will be working in Bosnia. Patrick Dixon
Thank you Mr. Dixon, it is a pleasure to know that you liked Kazakhstan. I would to ask you opinion concerning WTO accession issue... I am working on the paper about Kazakhstan. Is it possible to contact you somehow? Thank you in advance! Rakhmet :)
Dear Dr. Dixon, thank you for this independent video review. Although Kazakhstan has vast amounts of natural resources, it also has to develop manufacturing and technological industries using accumulated money. I'm currently writing master's dissertation in Glasgow University, and my topic is about technology transfer. The best channel for technology transfer is FDI, so the government should encourage it.
Thanks - Rakhhmet. Kazakhstan is also the most friendly and hospitable country I have ever experienced - or one of the most and I have been to 48 nations. Patrick Dixon
Thank you, for this economic brief on Kazakhstan. I will use it for my business presentation at my business school.I agree with that Kazakhstan has quite prosperous future due to not only vast mineral supplies, but also, a very knowlegable state management, pretty good level of education. Unlike some countries, Kazakhstani tend to pursue good education for themselfs and parents try to provide better education for their kids.
Rakhhmet to you too. Kazakhstan is an amazing, beautiful and very hospitable country and I look forward to having the privilege to return again before too long. I hope you enjoy my other videos. Patrick Dixon
Kazakhstan future - really interesting comments - thanks for updates and feeback which thousands of others are reading.

Patrik Dickson seems a bit nervous talking about the rising Kazakhstan. His non-stopping smile is another indicator of his premature thinking. Though it should be agreed that Kazakhstan is yet to become a fully developed nation, it nevertheless has achieved remarkable progress, which reflects overall Asian boom vis-a-vis declining Europe, both economically and, more importantly, geo-politically. Dickson should develop proper research, in an unbiased manner to draw conclusions about Asia.

Yes mineral resources can create wealth but also usually make it harder for any other kinds of business to export because mineral wealth means currency tends to go higher so exports of other things become more expensive.

Russians and Kazakhs have different cultures and languages. But do Russians and Kazakhs intermmary in Kazakhstan? Is it common or not common?
ted2924 3 years ago
I do not know. Patrick
pjvdixon 3 years ago
when you live side by side for many years , eventually you will accept intermarriage. we don't ask why asians in the states marry white guys etc. it's acceptable, but not as common as you'd think it would be.
Samuella133 3 years ago
They don't usually inter-marry.
Mahdavi1990 3 years ago
1/5 of marriages in Kazakhstan are inter-ethnic, 80% of these marriages are between Kazakhs and Russians, knowing this you may conclude that EVERY Kazakh family has a relatives of other than Kazakh origin? just like many Russians families have a Kazakh as a relative.
XPOMOCOM 3 years ago
1/5 of marriages in Kazakhstan are inter-ethnic, 80% of these marriages are between Kazakhs and Russians, so it is easy to conclude that EVERY Kazakh family has a non- Kazakh relative (most likely Russian)
XPOMOCOM 3 years ago
What are you trying to say?!
orazalinz 2 years ago
they do but not often. However in my opinion,
intermmarige is unproductive for the kazakhs.
Since intermmarying reduces the ethnic diver-
sity within kazakhs.
Additionally these half kazakh, half russian
children will grow up with a russian culture
and language. This is unhelpful that is
trying to unite the country under one
common tongue.
zumba1313 3 years ago
not too common... the reason is obvious - different culture, different religion, etc.
Guanochka 3 years ago
@ted2924 yes, it is indeed very usual for these two cultures to intermarry)
denumerator 4 months ago
@ted2924 it's quite common especially in big cities ;-)

Aidar01KZ 4 years ago
I cannot comment on specifics of the real estate market in Kazakhstan as I do not know enough about it. But in other former Soviet bloc nations such as Ukraine there have been spectacular increases in real estate prices and corrections are inevitable. If prices have risen in a city 50% one year and 60% the next for example, it is easy to see how they could fall by - say - 50%.
pjvdixon 4 years ago
Still a good return over the whole period although devastating to people who may have invested with almost 100% mortgages at the peak.
pjvdixon 4 years ago
thank you for answering the previsous question and sorry for attacking you with another one.

The prof. is saying truth about my republic, and i'd like to say that he made good research about my state. also, I'd like to say that there are no any race riots between kz and rus.
zhasik88 4 years ago
Thanks. Patrick
pjvdixon 4 years ago
True, there aren't big racial problems in Kazakhstan compared to where i live now, Norway. And I had always thought that the Kazakh educational system contains russian traits namely discipline, good quality, etc. On the contrary, Norway's educational systems are one of the lowest in the world. i have to thank you Dr. Dixon, the video was very educational =D

How about all the nuclear waste, left from the Soviet era, when lots of nuclear tests were conducted? how dangerous is it to live there? is this nuclear waste now part of fruits and vegetables? strong winds of Kazakhstan must surely spread around the nuclear remains? lots of women there have breast cancer, which usually happens in countries with radioactive exposure (example Armenia); liver cysts seem to be well advanced, usually an indication of poor water filtration and various food chemicals?
abvgdee 4 years ago
Well the tests happened in a limited area many years ago. Remember that people live safely in cities like Hiroshima today. Also Kazakhstan is a country the size of W Europe. But I do not have any information on the specific issues you raise.

Do you expect the dispute over the giant Kashagan oil field to be resolved quickly with little fuss. What do you think will happen with ENI and other western investors in the consortium to develop the field?
jirostoud1 4 years ago
The Kazakhstan development in Kashagan will continue to be a hot political issue as it is so large. So much money will be made by various companies that the general population may ask questions about whether the country is getting the best deal. For this reason I think the government will be sensitive to delays or things changing in the wider business environment which might make them want to renegotiate contracts made years previously.
pjvdixon 4 years ago
The Russians destroyed the Kazakhstan's land and the Aral Sea. Aren't the Kazakhs hating the Russian minority for what they did the past in Kazakhstan? Are there race riots in Kazakhstan?
tom2662 4 years ago
Russians form a significant minority of the Kazakhstan population, and the different communities live peacefully together. Every year around 50,000 Russian nationals leave (emigrate) and are balanced by a similar number of Kazakh nationals returning home.
