Thats a nice 5500 you guys had there. Do you remember how it worked out for them? (i.e. was it a good truck or not?)
I see a lot of them 4500/5500 series GMC/Chevys around here. My uncle test drove one, a black crew cab 4x4 dump 4500 model. He thought the same thing you did about the cab, he really liked it, too. I actually live about 10 miles from the plant where they used to make them (GM Truck and Bus Flint). Too bad they don't make them anymore (they stopped in '09. Lack of sales)
It was a nice little truck to drive, Willie; but it wasn't much more than a glorified pickup truck, and an overly expensive one at that. Could hardly carry any useful amount of payload. I remember that it would be unable to lift the dump box (stupid electric lift system, rather than a hydraulic one which would have at least been serviceable) with only one bucket load of material from am ex 200 size excavator.
Actually, it could hold more than one bucket, but all it took was one good sized bucket load in the front of the box to make it too heavy to lift. Compensate by placing the load more toward the rear, and the front wheels would barely stay on the ground. The truck in this video was VERY POORLY configured. Should've had a much shorter box to go with that electric lift. I don't know why they even bought it.
I haven't worked for them for a couple of years now. But I'm still making vids from the old footage that I have from those days. Don't know how much Fast Trac footage I have left; I just dig around in the old hard drive and see what I find.

5500 dont come w/ air. if they did ud need a CDL. and i wouldnt call that a baby dump, maybe to a mack, yes.
