What a great comedy!!! Very interesting to see Buster sort of before he got the "great stone face": he actually uses many facial expressions in this comedy. Then again, if he hadn't come up with his stone face, he might have ended up as just another comedian. His stone face and his stoic approach to any situation is what made him different and unique to Chaplin, Lloyd and the others.
@LKKruse Totally, that's what you have to love about the old time actors, it was all them, their dancing, their singing, their acrobatics, their death defying stunts, especially Buster, the only time he used a double was for closeups showing his hand, due to his finger being amputated, which is understandable. But especially in Sherlock Jr., he did more stunts in that one than I think most people realize.
I just love it when the guy sounds the fire alarm and Buster and fatty just take off running for it, they don't even have any idea WHERE they're going, they're just running, and then they have to stop and go back because they have the wrong hats on!
I think prettyparisian was referring to the picture on the wall at 1:32. That *is* Mabel! (This may be the only time Buster and Mabel "appeared" in a movie together.)
Thank u so much for sharing this great lil film! I enjoyed it quite a lot. I noticed that Fatty films create real unique cozy mood, and I get a wish to see them again to feel it. Maybe it's because I'm such a vintage lover ;) This is the 3rd Fatty-Buster film I saw; I long to watch Oh Doctor & Goodnight Nurse and something else. If someone posts them I'll be delighted!
I've been a fan of silent comedies for several decades now... I knew a collector down in Calif. who used to have Movie Night every Saturday, and saw a lot of stuff that few know about, along with the bigtime classics like "The General", etc.
I honestly thought I'd seen every Keaton flick that still existed... NOW I have, maybe :)
Excellent use of appropriate music that fit the scenes well :)

Better than nowadays. You could tell he was doing, unlike today, where trick photography would be done.

Made me laugh. Music is too loud, frantic and intrusive though

This garage film was nice. It reminds me of myself pretending to act in my auto tech garage class. B.H.

I also see another reference. The Three Stooges Stooges used the same trolley runs over hose gag in "False Alarms".
