  • The Doctor is in!

  • I think that Doctor Smith would love the new Nord - check their home page

    Hope he goes to Namm.

The only thing it lacks is the black white preset keys - I guess ppl will complane about. But given the formfactor and wheight (15 kg) you get all the sound in a very portable unit.

It will have presets lokated at the endblocks so you will quickly get the hang of it.

  • man he pushes the limits of that organ!

  • Unbelievable performance, but I think he can make any keyboard sounds so good. @sbigglesby, you have issues.

  • OT: Funny you never, but NEVER see anyone the calibre of the Doctor using a Nord.

  • many of us aspire to being musicians, but the secret is in Lonnies' face, look how much he is into it,this is keen, this is what it takes.

  • my facial expressions totally mimic his while hes playing hah

  • Yup... the XK3 sounds good, mind you, I suspect that Dr. Lonnie. Smith could make a reed organ or a paper and comb sound good. Always love his playing... its infectious, you just never know whats gonna happen next :) Shame they could not have fixed up a toggle switch for the Vent on the XK3. I think it was a bit of a stretch (time) for the Doc to reach the stomp buttons.

  • @Jammoko You can wire up the standard 11 pin cable to route the stereo audio and use the XK Leslie switch for the Neo...

  • hes got such joy whenever he plays !! hes just feeling it

  • The Hammond sound from Dr. Lonnie Smith, Rhoda Scott and all the other legends is pure joy, pure bliss. When nobody and nothing can lighten me up, this will always be the cure! I love the Hammond sound!

  • OMG! Doctor Smith, you are BADDDD! Man it makes me happy to see you so happy when you are performing.... I too am a keyboardist, but really a vocalist. I would love to speak with you, Email me at: Huffproductions@yahoo.com 'C. Huff

  • The first time I saw the "Doctor" was with Paul Schaeffer on a you tube video with 2 other guists all playing Hammond B3s. They played with a horn section too! The song was "The Cat", and it was Incredible!!! I'll save up my money to buy the ventilator to use with my Roland JV 1080 sound module, and my vintage Yamaha SK-20 organ/strings/synth! Thanks again Doc!!! Tommy T., Madison, Wi.

  • Let the Doctor cure your souls

  • Fantastic performance !!!! THANK YOU, Doc

  • Ahh, the Dr. is in ... and he may only be a 'voodoo' Dr., but he got plenty of mojo. I love his playing; Lonnie swings, baby ...

  • Do you guys not know who this is? Geez. Lonnie Smith was playing Hammond Organ before any of us were ever born.

  • I own a NE 2 and a Ventilator, and gotta tell ya...it blows me away everytime. In this video you couldn't really hear but the best feature IMO is the drive, it really sounds like a grungy 122 leslie, you gotta hear to believe.

  • lonnie smith: salesman

  • i am trying my best to detect sarcasm in this ' keyboard sounds like crap' comment or he is really a doctor. he is a genius and on of the worlds best organists , i would have thought that was obvious .,. my goodness how bout a little respect here

  • @drkschneider No sarcasm. I don't care for the tone of a digital Hammond Never have. They lack the bass of a real B-3. I also think Nord makes a superior digital organ sim. Lonnie's playing is proficient. He clearly has a command of the instrument Although, I prefer other players more than he. Granted none of them are still living.

  • That keyboard sounds like crap.

  • @sbigglesby my my where did you come from? I think your ears are crap mon any musician appreciates a Hammond B3 sound I said any musician which I don't think you are

  • Thank you Dr. Lonnie Smith!!!!

  • not sure this guy is really a doctor :)

  • Jackie Davis would have loved this magnificent machine! And I know I do, I have a leslie 125, it sounds real nice, but I would like to upgrade. I'm short on cash but I'll get that or the real thing someday! Great post! :D

  • That sounds terrible through the cam. but if Lonnie says its good, its either good or hes getting paid a lot to pimp the ventilator.

  • @dzlvs8 The latter is the most likely.

  • he´s so good! and this leslie-sim is a bit lighter than the "real mcoy" to take on gigs...

  • I'm hoping Neo will add MIDI and stereo functionality to the Ventilator. Then I will be tempted. It sounds better than the H&K Rotosphere. For now, I'll keep gigging with my Leslie 860 (and leave the heavy Leslie 122 at home).

What's up with changing Leslie speed with your hands?! The Hammond XK3C expression pedal which can also change Leslie speed. Not sure if that can be adapted to the Ventilator, a deal breaker for me if it can't. In any case, a separate footswitch would work better.

  • @PetPromises Old-school Hammond players - that's how we do it. They didn't have the footswitch until well after the Leslie switch. Not all B3s have the footswitch (most don't.)

  • First time seeing Mr. Smith play... wow! I'm blown away. What soul and depth of expression. Totally inspiring. Thank you.

  • The xk3 is no wanna be hammond it is a hammond.

  • @Denvermorgan2000 No. The modern day Hammonds in my opinion do not deserve to be called Hammonds. The lack the warmth and tube feel on the original. Nord and Genuine Soundware make superior clones to the Hammonds. People have this notion that the clone wheels from Hammond are the true sound, they're not.

  • @TheMadMusicMan Thats where you are wrong i have an xk3c

and when its plugged into a real leslie and just a little tweaking

it sounds great its really close you should try one though a leslie

before talking about something you dont know about go play one

though a real leslie then come back and the vent sounds great too

a real leslie will change your mind about the xk3c now the rest of the clones

i would agree they are not that good the nord is pretty good though.

  • @Denvermorgan2000 I haven't tried running any of them through a real Leslie cab, so I can't comment there. But on their own, I think that other companies have done a better job digitally simulating the Leslie.

  • well the xk3c simulator is a lot better than the previous xk3 and i feel its better than nord but the ventilator blows them all away.

  • @Denvermorgan2000 The only thing the modern day Hammond organs have on their side is the name Hammond. If it weren't for that they'd be another hack company trying to sell their stuff. The drawbar pitches are thin, the Leslie simulations are very cheap as well. Nords sound better all around. The only good thing about Hammond is the layout, real drawbars with all the right physical controls. There are many better sound engines than Hammond though. GSi's VB3 paired ith a Hamichord smoke the XK-3c

  • @TheMadMusicMan Well dont buy one but as for me i think they great.

  • @Denvermorgan2000 maybe you meant leslie but ya i feel you the sound is real!

  • @Denvermorgan2000

Anything less than a tonewheel B3 (expect perhaps the newB3) is a wannabe B3 imo.

But being a wanna be B3 is not so bad either. It is a good master to try to follow and many do it very well. I have the Nord c1 and c2 and they provide me with a good sound and the ability to easily transport my sound. I normally bring my Lelsie 145 because I think it is worth the effort.

Check out what Nord will show at Namm - you will be blown away by the sound of Frederick

  • @misilen24 So nord is coming with something new i will check it out thanks man.

  • it would sound even better if he hooked it up in stereo like its supposed to be.

  • Excellent Demo Thanks Lonnie, I couldn't find a Ventilator here in the USA, I use the Boss RT-20

  • What song is dr smith playing in this vid?

  • I need a Doctor (Lonnie Smith!) in the house! The house is Jazz at the Bistro in St. Louis! Come to St. Louis, Dr. Lonnie Smith!

  • Dr. Lonnie- You always bring a smile to my face when you play da B3!!

  • WOW - the best demo of the Vent yet.

Is that a mono speaker he's playing through?!?

  • @hardbop200 YES.

  • Oh god... fucking good!!!

  • hoping to get back to Indy in time to see the Dr. at the Jazz Kitchen Monday.

  • You are the cat's meow

  • The Doctor sounds great. Ventilator sounds great. Cool unit; I'll have mine on the road with me too.

  • @b3groover I ordered my Ventilator about 4 days ago - MAN, I can't wait! I believe Dr. Lonnie Smith is playing (brilliantly as always) with a mono connection... I'm interested to hear the difference re mono vs. stereo (I'll use a small Behringer mixer for headphones) on the Ventilator, with my Nord C1.

  • @TheOrganiston9th What's up with the internal sim on the Nord C1? Ive recently got the C2, and the sim is simply fantastic, it's meant to be a new generation of the nord sims, so perhaps try and download the updated version for your C1 man?

  • bad !
