  • PLEASE DON'T GROUP WALT DISNEY WITH ALL THESE GREAT MEN HE WAS A DOUCHE BAG ANTI SEMITE I DON'T WANT TO BE GROUPD IN WITH HIM

  • Imagine if John hadn't been shot by a nutjob who I believe is still alive. I wonder if that nutjob is an atheist?

  • First that quote is from H. W. Bush not the recent W. Bush. Second there is no evidence/record that he ever said it. As a atheist I seek truth no half truths and lies.

  • @mrbrendanobrien It just says George Bush. That could be either of them. Also there is plenty of evidence that he said it. It was in answer to a direct question and many people heard him.

"W" is famous for saying, "Stop throwing the Constitution at me. It's just a god damned piece of paper." Plenty of people heard that, too.

  • Galileo Galilei remained a Roman Catholic throughout his life.

  • @IvyClaireRN Yes, and I am sure that their fanatical and irrational reaction to his correct support of Copernican theory that the earth went around the sun really strengthened his belief. Just because he lived in an age when he could not claim to be an atheist for fear of being murdered by the christians, does not mean he believed in god at all.

  • to let us "imagine" how the world would be without all those things. again, 'nothing to kill or die for' it makes perfect sense. there's nothing wrong with believing god or having a religion, what is wrong is the hate towards someone that believes in a specific religion. i bet i'm not doing a good job putting this into words, but i came up with the conclusion, that lennon was not an atheist.

  • now now, did this song say "imagine there's no god"? no. john was a christian. it actually depends on how you see this song. i have interpreted the lyrics, if you think outside of the box, this song has a lot to do with judging people. what he means is; imagine the world without religion, without country, no heaven or hell. people would live life more for themselves, they'd do things because their hearts told them to. every little idea about someone leads to another. i think lennon was trying

  • OK, some of those first people were deists. On the other hand, they didn't have the idea of natural selection to explain the diversity of life, which may be why many of them held to the belief of a creator god.

  • Angelina Jolie- Buddhist; Dave Matthews- Agnostic; Gene Roddenberry- Agnostic; Stephen Hawking- Agnostic;

You didn't even get half of them right. Come on now. Being an Athiest is a huge leap of faith... it's not the same as just being apathetic.

  • @laughallnite08

I wonder if you know just what atheist and agnostic mean...

    (Hint: you can be both!)

  • @laughallnite08 belief in god is not the same thing as having a religion... for example, buddhism is a godless religion.

  • James Madison- Anglican; Benjamin Franklin- Diest; Taft- Unitarian; John Adams- Unitarian; Galileo- Catholic; Walt Disney- Congregationalist; Robert Frost- Outspokenly Agnostic; Oscar Wilde- Catholic; Helen Keller- (perhaps your most erroneous flaw) Raised by Christians and professing Christian herself. In her adult life she had more to do with activism and the religion of Emanuel Swedenborg; Billy Joel- Jewish; Bill Gtaes- Agnostic; Andy Rooney- Agnostic;

  • @laughallnite08 Wow, you can wiki and google. Now go read some books (Not your bible) and other multiple sources and you will see the accuracy of this vid!

  • Einstein was clearly was not an atheist. I doubt many of these people were. Non practicing is not atheism

  • most of those people where masons, therefore not atheists, as they believe in one great creator

  • II. Bill Gates-agnostic, says he doesn't know; Angelina Jolie-unclear, undeclared; Stephen Hawking-"My goal is to understand a little corner of God's plan."

IMAGINE you'd done your research before putting this together...

  • Basing all this on one quote from George Bush is lame. Who cares what his opinion is. But then the vid fails, because the following were NOT atheists: James Madison-church/state, never denied God; Abe Lincoln-"I have never denied the truth of the Scriptures"; Ben Franklin- "I believe in one God, Creator of the universe."; William Taft-Unitarian; Galileo-To me the works of nature and of God are miraculous.; Helen Keller-never denied God; Charles Schultz-because of "the great pumpkin"? >> II

  • Beautiful video.

  • o cmon remember that George bush was a retard and retards picked him

  • Also, John adams was a diest and albert eienstien belived in a god, but not in the classical sense.

  • Uhhh... Abraham lincoln was not an athiest, and neither was james madison, but franklin was a deiest

  • this song and video show that us atheists and agnostics should be treated equally

  • so what if some atheists are celebrities, doesnt prove anything to me.. and all ppl u mentioned are really atheists.

  • Franklin, Jefferson, Madison, etc... Our Founding Fathers were primarily Deists. Also, Dave Matthews is publicly an Agnostic.

I like to imagine that an intellectual difference is recognized between these ideas and Atheism.

  • God, George Bush was such a worthless waste of existence. We can only hope for his untimely demise.

  • "If there were no God, there would be no atheists." Nice video ! Thanks for sharing, and for commenting mine ! Peace !

  • Look, im an athiest but half the people here were douchebags or capitalist wankers

  • Who the hell cares about Angelino jole..

  • How many orphaned Africans have you adopted? Angelina Jolie is not only a fine actress, but a role model for countless girls whose parents may be overbearing Creationists. And why can't you spell or use grammar correctly?

  • ok fuckwits this song isnt about atheism.

theres no such thing as atheism anywayy you schmucks! theres jus people with commmon sense and reason, and then theres people who have exceptional blind faith..

    so theree

    x

  • If you're saying atheism doesn't exist because it is a lack of belief in deities, then by that same logic, the color black does not exist because it is an absence of color (speaking scientifically, not artistically).

But you're right, this song has little to do with atheism.

  • im jus saying

surely we're all intelligent enough to understand that old fairytales from thousands of years ago are not the way forward

if you like fairytales then thats great, i like some too, jus i dont take it as gospel. unless its moby dick. that really happened....

  • "imagine no religion"

  • The song isn't about atheism, it was about communism. Also all the founding fathers but Thomas Jefferson were deists.

  • Lennon was no Communst. That was a label pinned to him by a nervous US Government. He was a Humanist, as was Chaplin and many other free thinkers who scared the beejesus out of America.

  • So sayeth your true compassionate and non judgemental Christian (or Fundamentalist Looney as we like to call you - there now, howdya like your own label son? Its good to generalise about people we know nothing about isnt it?)

Whatever you say Mr 'Bigwhammy' - Everyone hear has heard of Lennon, but you . . . . hmmm keep trying, your day will come I'm sure.

  • what is your problem? religion le to wiych hunts stonings burnings and several other millions and millions of deaths attribited to crusandes of religion plus add to that that only science will lead to utopia

  • if you know anything about history you would know that the biggest wars have been over religion and not atheism far more people have killed each other over who's god is the correct one rather than over the existence of a god

there is no need to fear us sir.

good and bad people come from all races ages genders beliefs and nations.

  • "biggest wars have been over religion"

Even if that is granted (its false as the biggest WW2 had nothing to do with religion) But even if granted it...

The truth is that in 20th century - recent history - is that atheist regimes have killed more people in peace time than all the wars of all history from the dawn of mankind combined together.

In PEACE time - so can't even use war as an explanation. Now that's the reality of atheism.

  • "atheist regimes" you sir are an idiot!

  • Education - try it some time!

Soviet Union, China, Communist Albania, Communist Afghanistan, North Korea and Communist Mongn all list the official state religion as atheist.

  • yeah and they haven't killed because they dont believe in god and they have killed far less than the ongoing wars in the middle east all of which are about religion and the crusades the prosecution of people because of their faith by others of different faith like in WW2 the jews were prosecuted

there have been many more people killed over which god is right

no rational person most of which are atheists btw would ever get to that point over something as trivial as stupid fairy tale gods

  • That's simply not true. Stalin and Mao have killed more people in peace time than all wars of history combined. And atheism is a root of genocide because it is directly traceable to their belief that there is no God to hold them accountable and that man is just an animal (i.e. Darwinism). Their writings say as much.

You guys just airbrush history and then play this song and say "imagine" but reality says it's already been tried and the results speak for themselves - Atheism is a nightmare.

  • and what is your new and exciting and shiny theory??

becuase tbh weve heard evrthing you ahve to say

    same old shit

    change the record

  • "That's simply not true. Stalin and Mao have killed more people in peace time than all wars of history combined"

LOL this one is getting submitted to fundies say the darndest things. Religion is directly responsible for some of the most horrific acts in all of recorded history, and the kill count? Yeah. Stalin isn't even close

Did you know there was a time when the Christians controlled the civilized world? Every aspect of it, from schools to government.

We refer to this time as THE DARK AGES.

  • Holy crap!

I wonder if FSTDT rejects your submissions if you submit 2 of the same person.

  • Without religion we will have good people do good things and bad people do bad things, but for good people to do bad things requires religion.

  • "but for good people to do bad things requires religion. "

Wow you fell for that old one? Its an absurd lie as the evidence clearly shows. Millions of changed lives through faith in Jesus Christ from prison ministries to drug addicts getting clean - prove that the exact opposite is true.

Jesus came for people who know they are bad and need a savior not for the ones that think they are good. Those are the atheists.

  • Everybody think they are the good ones, only everybody is wrong with this... And about the millions of lives changed throught Jesus Christ, add to that the few hundered million that died in the last 2000 years, of course i mean all religions in the world. Secondly, i don't actually know that many atheist that are drug addicts, (i don't know about prison but statistics do show that about 0.2% are atheist) but theist addicts, holy shit just go to winnipeg's downtown lol

  • I never said atheists were drug addicts.

I was responding to the canard "but for good people to do bad things requires religion. " The evidence points to the opposite. Religion helps bad people change for the better.

  • eh... What evidence??? Religion may be helpful to drug addicts but on actuallity the only reason why they are being "cured" is because they want to be cured.

  • What evidence? Very odd for a Christian to talk about 'evidence' - thats normally the stuff you sweep under the carpet. There is NO evidence that Christ ever walked the Earth. There is NO evidence that a God exists. There is No evidence that YOUR religion is RIGHT and OTHERS are WRONG. The Bible isnt even yours, its stories aren't yours,YOUR religious history, is NOT yours. Read a book, other than the obviously fake one you live your life by and you'll see the truth.

  • Ignorance =/= absence.

  • @CarlBewley YOUR wrong... but before you get into anything else i have a question... do you consider yourself to be tolerent in all ways shapes and forms?

  • @Sarafina100001 - Tolerant? mainly I 'd say yes. And pedantic. It's 'you're' as in 'you are' not YOUR. So, in that instance YOU'RE wrong.

Education is a right pain in the arse isn't it? ;)

I do find religion intolerable though because they're unproven, dangerous and cruel man made methods of control - ALL OF THEM. Don't believe the lies.

Now go on, try to save me or pray for my soul etc etc etc

  • @CarlBewley Ummm no educations not a pain i go to private Christian school LOL ^_^ but you are right (did i spell it right this time?) i'm sorry i do admit i need to work on my spelling thanks for telling me lol ^_^ and thats fine i've done my duty as a Christian i've made it known to you that God does exist and the rest is between you and God.... I'm sorry if i annoy you.... wish you the best ^_^

  • @Sarafina100001 - Fair enough, and you didn't annoy me - each to their own (tolerance see? :) Good luck sticking with the God thing though, I couldn't manage it after the age of fourteen, it just didn't make any sense.

  • @CarlBewley thanks i'm about to be a sophmore and God is the most logical thing to me and i don't belive in luck but thanks for the well wishes ^_^ caz i need it hehehe^_^

  • @Sarafina100001 There is nothing logical about "god". In fact reading the bible is the best source of leading people to atheism.

  • @Einsteinian99 emkay... sure...

  • @Sarafina100001 Seriously, the first 3 books read just like fairy tales. The only reason people believe them is because somebody else told them the stories are true. Come on, that is just silly.

  • @Einsteinian99 are u trying to pick a fight ...

  • @Sarafina100001 Not at all. Why would you say that? Think about it; if somebody told you when you were a kid that Jack and the beanstalk was true and the bible stories are fairy tales.... would you be able to tell the difference? Answer: No.

  • @Einsteinian99 then stop talkin to me i really don't care what you think in this point in time sorry i don't i know who i am and who i belive in i'm obligated to tell you the truth not convert you to christianity... menaing i did what i need to do...

  • @Sarafina100001 Ok, so go do it and not respond. And don't post bullshit if you don't want people to respond to it.

  • @Einsteinian99 you're the one posting and there is really no reason to curse just chill and vibe..... Sir just chill and vibe... and i don't care if you respond go right ahead i'm just going to tell you whats on my mind...

  • @CarlBewley There are actually PLENTY of evidences. Evidence is not the same as proof. There is no scientific proof for God, just as there is no scientific proof agaist God... but there is a long list of evidences that bring people to believe in the God of the Bible.

  • @laughallnite08 - plenty of evidences? you mean evidence? it's not pluralised. GO on then, i'm all ears. Evidence is FACT not OPINION. If God exists let him strike me down no-

    ;)

  • @laughallnite08 Do tell. What "evidences" do you speak of? Would love to hear it!

  • besides some of the contemporaries you listed, several of these personalities were occultists, not atheists. Especially Franklin. The more recent so-called atheists may also be considered as John Lennon was: Hinduism repackaged as new age

  • Hey dude as an atheist, so no bias here, a lot of the people you named were not atheists. Its misleading to say they were, that is a tactic christian fundamentalists use, except they name known atheists or agnostics as christians. 1/5 stars sorry man.

  • It was kind of a given that Hellen Keller was atheist...

  • Really awesome, need more women though. There are female scientists and such remember :)

  • Warren Buffet.

    Marie Curie.

    Me =)

    xD

  • Its a safe bet you have no idea who John Lennon even was.

  • The first problem anyone has is with the official gods, nobody likes to be told there is a particular type of god when there isnt a single shread of evidence to verify the ones being touted today. The question "Is there a God?" is different in many peoples minds to a question about the existance of a specific God.

  • Without religion, we could accomplish so much.

  • James Madison was a deist.

  • Hi axiram - my response to watching your vid is: many of these people actually were quite religious in their world view.

Galileo was a devout Catholic who did not believe his teachings contradicted scripture, Oscar Wilde died Catholic and wrote much religious poetry, Lincoln constantly pondered God's purposes and Franklin and Adams certainly seem to have been Deists.

    Even Voltaire built a Chapel!

How many of these guys are really cut and dry atheist?

    Thanks,

  • If by "Devout Catholic", you mean "Imprisoned by the Catholic church for being a heretic until he died, and a devout pursuer of knowledge and science" ...

Then sure - I guess Galileo was a Catholic.

  • Yes, Einstein is often misquoted as being a deist, he was an atheist. His god was nature.

  • @lastelement21 -technically, that makes him a panthiest.

  • @lastelement21 make up your mind is he an atheist or a panthiest he can't be both at the same time in the same sence that would be a contradiction and you really don't want me to get started on that....

  • Albert Einstein wans't a deist. Read his "The world as I see it" if you want proof, you don't have to take my word for it.

  • correct me if I'm wrong, wasn't Albert Einstein a deist?

  • Sure. I'll agree to that you should always be open to new viewpoints and be ready to revise your own, but in practice you simply can't go around and validate all the different views that's out there. Therefore one must filter away those views that seems least likely to be true. For me religion in any form falls under that category. Unless someone present any evidence that even remotely could point towards a god I will not take their views seriously.

  • Sorry if I am unclear, but since I'm not a native speaker I'm having an hard time formulating as I want it.

  • One shouldn't be atheist just because some popular people was and is it. One should be it because religion obviously fails to give a valid answer to the big questions in life.

  • This video wasn't about why people should be atheist and that 'all the cool kids are doing it', it's to show close minded bigots that both the concept of Atheism and Atheists have done some good in the world; because, believe it or not, there's people out there that think Atheists are a bunch of devil worshiping / Terra card reading monsters.

  • Though just because they are famous doesn't mean their view of the world matters. Just look at Tom Cruise. :p Though I see your point and I admit that the video could and probably should be viewed that way.

  • The founing fathers were not atheists they were deists, so they did believe in something, although I would like to think that they were, Thomas Paine did get the ball rolling though

  • great video. im so glad people are starting to realize religion is made up. i think christianity will die out just like the greek gods did. and r.i.p. fellow atheist george carlin. he spoke nothing but the truth and converted me.

  • I like the way how there are alot of succesful enlightend people up there.

  • Very inspiring, if a bit sad given how this song has been co-opted by Ben Stein for his flick.

  • first time viewer ...So is there a web page or a book of them saying they are an atheist or film of them saying this?

  • And to think, John Lennon was killed by a fundamentalist Christian.

  • The song is only partially about giving up belief in a deity. It's also about giving up belief in any dogma. And yes, being an atheist (or Christian, or Muslim, or Buddhist, etc.) leads to death, because holding beliefs means you're alive, which for all of us is a temporary condition.

  • Everything leads to death...remember life has 100% mortality rate

  • I turned the video off as soon as Prof. Einstein's picture appeared. I wasn't wholly certain about the prior gentlemen, but Einstein would--and often did--take issue with being called an atheist.

Granted, he didn't believe in the concept of a personal god, though he did consider himself a religious man. While he didn't completely identify with naturalistic pantheism, he did say, "I belive in Spinoza's God, who reveals himself in the harmony of all that exists...."

  • Wasn't he religious in the sense of zealousness rather than dogmatism?

  • Um, most of those people are dead! Are you saying that being an atheist only leads to death?

    Great, now I'm depressed.

  • Lolz.

Being alive only leads to death.

  • Crap. Well then, I'll make sure that I limit how alive I am, thus reducing the chance of me dying.

  • "Nothing to kill or die for"

Too bad this message isn't clear to the atheists running communist China. Lennon was wrong. Oh well, still his biggest fan and still an atheist.
