The first problem anyone has is with the official gods, nobody likes to be told there is a particular type of god when there isnt a single shread of evidence to verify the ones being touted today. The question "Is there a God?" is different in many peoples minds to a question about the existance of a specific God.

Galileo was a devout Catholic who did not believe his teachings contradicted scripture, Oscar Wilde died Catholic and wrote much religious poetry, Lincoln constantly pondered God's purposes and Franklin and Adams certainly seem to have been Deists.

Sure. I'll agree to that you should always be open to new viewpoints and be ready to revise your own, but in practice you simply can't go around and validate all the different views that's out there. Therefore one must filter away those views that seems least likely to be true. For me religion in any form falls under that category. Unless someone present any evidence that even remotely could point towards a god I will not take their views seriously.
One shouldn't be atheist just because some popular people was and is it. One should be it because religion obviously fails to give a valid answer to the big questions in life.
This video wasn't about why people should be atheist and that 'all the cool kids are doing it', it's to show close minded bigots that both the concept of Atheism and Atheists have done some good in the world; because, believe it or not, there's people out there that think Atheists are a bunch of devil worshiping / Terra card reading monsters.

What evidence? Very odd for a Christian to talk about 'evidence' - thats normally the stuff you sweep under the carpet. There is NO evidence that Christ ever walked the Earth. There is NO evidence that a God exists. There is No evidence that YOUR religion is RIGHT and OTHERS are WRONG. The Bible isnt even yours, its stories aren't yours,YOUR religious history, is NOT yours. Read a book, other than the obviously fake one you live your life by and you'll see the truth.

@CarlBewley There are actually PLENTY of evidences. Evidence is not the same as proof. There is no scientific proof for God, just as there is no scientific proof agaist God... but there is a long list of evidences that bring people to believe in the God of the Bible.

besides some of the contemporaries you listed, several of these personalities were occultists, not atheists. Especially Franklin. The more recent so-called atheists may also be considered as John Lennon was: Hinduism repackaged as new age

The first problem anyone has is with the official gods, nobody likes to be told there is a particular type of god when there isnt a single shread of evidence to verify the ones being touted today. The question "Is there a God?" is different in many peoples minds to a question about the existance of a specific God.

Hi axiram - my response to watching your vid is: many of these people actually were quite religious in their world view.
Galileo was a devout Catholic who did not believe his teachings contradicted scripture, Oscar Wilde died Catholic and wrote much religious poetry, Lincoln constantly pondered God's purposes and Franklin and Adams certainly seem to have been Deists.
Even Voltaire built a Chapel!
How many of these guys are really cut and dry atheist?

Sure. I'll agree to that you should always be open to new viewpoints and be ready to revise your own, but in practice you simply can't go around and validate all the different views that's out there. Therefore one must filter away those views that seems least likely to be true. For me religion in any form falls under that category. Unless someone present any evidence that even remotely could point towards a god I will not take their views seriously.

This video wasn't about why people should be atheist and that 'all the cool kids are doing it', it's to show close minded bigots that both the concept of Atheism and Atheists have done some good in the world; because, believe it or not, there's people out there that think Atheists are a bunch of devil worshiping / Terra card reading monsters.

The song is only partially about giving up belief in a deity. It's also about giving up belief in any dogma. And yes, being an atheist (or Christian, or Muslim, or Buddhist, etc.) leads to death, because holding beliefs means you're alive, which for all of us is a temporary condition.

I turned the video off as soon as Prof. Einstein's picture appeared. I wasn't wholly certain about the prior gentlemen, but Einstein would--and often did--take issue with being called an atheist.
Granted, he didn't believe in the concept of a personal god, though he did consider himself a religious man. While he didn't completely identify with naturalistic pantheism, he did say, "I belive in Spinoza's God, who reveals himself in the harmony of all that exists...."
