I hope you continue with tutorials on how to use gEDA. They are very helpful and much appreciated.

Do you now is it posible to use custom made design rule files in gEDA.

To test PCB compliance to manufacturer PCB rules like Eagle has for SeedStudio.

  • @TheKristijanTube thx!

You can load custom vendor drill mapping files in gEDA and you can also set the design rules in the preferences. I might make a video on this soon, if I have the time. I've just got loads of work at the moment so I can't promise anything.

  • How do you know it's R025 for the resistor ?

  • @nazarottto I've used it before many times, I just happen to remember the name of it. If you want to find out the name of a footprint it's best to open gEDA PCB and check the name by adding a component from the library, press 'i' for insert - this will bring up a list of all the footprints available.

  • @sonodrome i've searched but R025 didnt match any resistor in the library :( .I've tried to type the name from the PCB's library back into the schema editor but it didnt work either

  • @nazarottto I guess it depends on what footprints you have available. You will need to copy the exact name of the component (it's case sensitive). Also make sure you are assigning the footprint and refdes attributes properly in the schematic editor. If you try: 0.125W_Carbon_Resistor -> that should give you a through hole resistor footprint.

  • @sonodrome Thanks man i'll try

  • @sonodrome That worked :D. Thanks alot.

  • @nazarottto You're welcome :)

  • I want it on Windows, damn it! Looks like it's Eagle for me. :(

  • can hardly see the nets

  • @MySchizoBuddy Thanks for pointing this out- I was just using the default dark colours, I'll have to set the nets to something more vibrant if I do another video of GEDA schematic editor

  • How do you place a square via?

  • @earendall Please see my new video tutorial for how to make a square via
