  • On a tangential note, it's unintuitive, but in Dark Souls, the "do it later" philosophy doesn't work too well. Your level only matters inasmuch as it complements or enables equipment, which is everything. If you're not improving your equipment, levelling up won't give you the benefits you think it will.

    You should look carefully at all your rings and armor and deck yourself out. You will have a far easier time in combat. Likewise, upgrade that Kellogg's sword. Makes a huge difference!

  • You should really explore the shopkeepers and blacksmiths thoroughly. If you had looked at the Giant Blacksmith, you'd see he has a "Purchase Item" menu option, under which he sells large shards for 3800 (cheaper and safer than the Sen's Fortress merch).

    Lesson learned: backstabbing is a huge part of PvP. In fact, many people make so-called "backstab builds" specifically for it. From 38:14 onwards you had SEVERAL great opportunities to backstab the phantom. You should seize those!
