I would love to get all the dance team in ohio to perform in clevelands asian fest this year. the date is may22nd it would be great show off our asian pride that day!
to learn more bout lion dancing and it's other things, why not china you ask. im not sure but im from singapore and im bias but it LOL. serious, but the lion just feel like it's a liveless doll, at most a small pussycat. malaysia has one of the pioneers in lion dancing that was the inventor of the jongs that comtemporary dancers are dancing on and those used in genting competitions and competitions in singapore. yea, this two places is a must visit to serious master lion dance and more to do
yea, like it shud be ARGHHH. IM THE LION, KING OF THE JUNGLE FEEL. from the entrance, ARGHH.... to running part towards the setup, it feels like its just a small frail kitten. serious, definitely, wielding the lion's head is definitely going to be a hard task even for those who go for competition at Genting. seriously. but, the feel just isnt there, i believe that the training of te wrist is very very important, to be able to wield the lion head properly. seriously. go to singapore or malaysia
from the beginning till the end, i cant really see the fierceness/fierocious
( sorry i forgotten how to spell that word :} ) or the lion as in the mighty and high standing lion feel. yea. the lion's feeling is just like a small boy, running around, peeking at things and all. yea it just kind of feel like a "taiji" lion, tho theres no such thing. im mean it just feels wrong. from the most important part, the entrance the lion should have a fierce being feel.
We are not sure what you mean by zhuang music on traditional lion. Are you referring to Gao Zhuang as in "lion on poles" as a style? The routine performed by TF is seen here as the contemporary/modern style. The beats and movement is definitely the Hoksan Sar Ping style (northern style southern head) and it is not the traditional style of dancing (Choy Li Fut, Chow Gar, Hung Gar etc.).
The prop set is just a ground prop set and though some consider this as a traditional set, it's still done by majority of the team as most teams around the world cannot afford nor has the storage space for jongs.
As for Teng Fei, we believe that every team should have a higher goal and they did not state that they will be heading to Genting anytime soon. Improvement is part of human nature. We asked them to "name one goal/dream of the team" and this is one of their dreams.
These guys are pretty funny. I like how they are always improving. I saw them doing a performance lately and was really impressed.
