My aunt has a $70,000 corvet. I drove it and noticed that when I push the gas pedal all the way down from a stand still the car responds very slowly. She had the feature installed because of stop and go traffic in the city.
My 2007 R1 does the same thing. It has a lot of power but in 2nd gear it does lag a little bit...but I was thinking it was normal because the R1 has a lot of power and yamaha doesn't want noobs launching themselves off the bike..?
dude u are making us fool by leaving the throttle and again trying to keep in the same rpm u r distroying the name of yamaha r1 shit i understoud ur trikk
i have seen this before on several occasions, the R1 realized the rider was a completely usless squid and the bike started to destroy it self in order to protect itself from a more painful death
The problem is due to early model ecu's. I first heard about it in a magazine and then tried it out for myself, sure enough I had the problem. I went to the dealer the next day and they did an ECU replacement under warranty, $0.00 out of pocket. No more problems, easy fix. If your dealer is the problem, just be more aggressive about it or go somewhere else that wants to take care of their customers!!!
It is an unintended programming glitch in the fly-by-wire YCC-T system to keep riders from launching down the road since the bike has serious horsepower and torque.

haker83 I have the repair order in front of me. The job is called a 'ECU RECALL'. It was charged 1 hour of labor, under total the word WARRANTY is there. Under total amount due, .00 It was free. I no longer need to blip the throttle to start the bike, it is more responsive to throttle input, and the 5500 rpm 2nd gear lag is gone. I hope this is helpful.
5500 rpm in 2nd gear only has the throttle lag, and only if you try to gas it while rolling in 2nd gear at 5500 rpm. The dealer fixed the problem in my 07 for free.
Just found out that the U.S R1 model do/did have a lag time @ 5200Rpm and most of these models were recalled. however the Euro And Aussie models didnt/dont have this problem.
The last time kawasaki won a AMA championship hmmmmm i seem to recall a man named Eric Bostrom on a ZX-9R thats not been in 5 years but oh well. And you have to buy a 04-05 Kawasaki ZX-10R they are the best bike still all they needed was a steering damper and they where the best bike out of the crate. Oh and I think I remember a certain some one by the name of Roger Lee Hayden and Tommy Hayden winning supersport 2 years in a row on Kawasaki ZX-6RR's so yes Kawasaki is a race proven bike.
Yamaha is aware of the lag. This is an old issue. Remember, Yamaha introduced their 07's first. Anyways, the bike is sweet and once the ECU is switched out the bike is like a Ferrari. Know and keep up with motorcycles and info before you comment.
all of these comments were before Yamaha quietly released notice of fixing the lag (only to create a new one). Please "know your own info before posting"
buy a kawasaki or honda? what the hell has kawasaki done during the past 5 years? i can't seem to recall since the last time they won a racing championship in AMA or World superbike, at least yamaha is a proven race champion and so is honda and suzuki, but kawasaki forget it
Oh please. As if someone like you would be able to discern the ability of each of those bikes. If someone whoops your ass on a Yamaha, he'd whoop your ass on a Kawasaki too.
im having this issue and the stalling issue. doesnt really bother me. its ok.
