We can't afford the stimulus now, how can we pay for free health care? It's simple America, Just tweak Medicare to accept those American citizens who truly can't afford health care, allow for insurance companies to compete across state lines, limit medical lawsuits.... need I go on? We have it in our power to fix it, but bigger government is NOT the answer! Government getting out of the way, IS!

i agree with you to some extent.

switzerland has no gov-run HC insurance, but has universal coverage.

i think gov-run is an good choice, but not only choice, so many different versions can be found in the world which work pretty well.

and yes, i also agree with you that insurance market can be considered as cow-boy-style market, with little regulation.

but i have no commitment to an ideological concept of free market. i mean i think if we know some better method to achieve the goal, why not have a try. some socialism policies work pretty well in some other countries. it has become a kind of social fabrics, like post office.

also countries with democracy should be more confident about gov-run insurance, democracy can prevent gov controlling you health, which is now controlled by private Inc, and a lot of tragedies has been generated.
