They aren't melodic, they are heavy, raw, harsh, fast, distorted as hell and most importantly- their riffs are fuckin' EVIL! Those give you goose bumps no matter if you listen to them the 1st or the 34th time. It's one of the things that make you come back for more Slayer.

Slayer's solos arent designed to be blissfully melodic. they are suppoed to be frantic, fast, and harsh on the ears - but they are also intricately built upon a strong understanding of theory. unfortunately the majority of people of today dont understand simple concepts like that and bash talented musicians like Kerry just because he isnt some faggot rapper or something.

@666thrashmaster have a look at 'harmonizing the major scale'. take a simple C Major scale, look at the 1st, 3rd and 5th degrees of the scale (C, E, G). together these form a major triad.start on D, keep the C Major key signature, take 1st, 3rd then 5th. it goes D, F, A. this is a D minor triad. over any major scale, it goes Maj-Min-Min-Maj-Maj-Min-Dim-Ma­j. make godly music with your new powers, try with other scales. congratulations you are now more talented than the pop industry of today.

It's retarded how people come on these sites and criticize things like K.K.'s playing for example. He may not be Jason Becker or Paul Gilbert, but he's one helluva performer, very creative, and yea some of the solos go off the tracks a bit, but it fits and compliments Slayer's music so well that if Chris Broderick or someone like that jumped in and start shreddin, it would just sound silly. Kerry is the man and you all know you've jammed on one of his riffs at some point in your life.

Piece By Piece, Expendable Youth, Skeletons Of Society (basically a rewrite of EY), Temptation and half of the Divine Intervention album which IMO sucked apart from Dittohead. I always find myself skipping these songs because they're too repetitive or just boring. No doubt Slayer fans will shoot me down for that but that's my two cents.

i play mostly thrash and i find alternate picking at low speeds to be very difficult... usually if it isnt a gallop or tremolo picking, its usually always down picking.
