i would say this is a very bias quote. it sets up a simple opponent (people who value that which is "natural") discredits them immediately, redundantly calling their beliefs chic "fashionable ideologies" (as though the beliefs of the speaker are anything but a dated mode of thought). he then seeks to "make" nature's evolution indistinguishable from mans toys, by putting the entire universe in the same scope: naturally "fashioned" artifice. then comes the prophecy: machines and man as one.
i wouldn't say that the phenomena that humans are attracted to "natural" things is a fashionable ideology. it's almost a constant throughout all life, and a necessary aspect of integrity within nature. it may be bogus as a morality but that's mostly because logic simply fails to encapsulate human intuition, in my opinion.
Yeah... that's kind of annoying. It would have been nice if the author had avoided that, but still managed to make the same point. Personally, I'd remove the term "God-given" as well. At least he put that in quotes.
I hate when people says nature is better: earthquake, virus, bacteria, tsunami, asteroids, cancer, tornado, volcano. It even created the humans, the thing they usual critic to doinf bad things.
also, we don't have any raw materials that are not natural. even the most synthetic of material can be broken down into very natural parts. everything we make come from this planet (so far).
nature itself is politically incorrect and un-natural, by our civilized society.
Maybe I'll make you a video about this (later today). I completely understand why people feel the way they do, but I have EVERY reason to see the opposite outcome as being inevitable. I've never really tried to explain my position because it's complicated and very counter intuitive. It would make a good topic for a video though if I could explain it coherently.

The natural/artificial divide is an illusion created by our need to categorise. We imagine sharp lines where there are only gradients.

look at the havoc of unintended consequences

a good chance I am a reactionary luddite:)
Interesting quote!
