Yes, it is tilebased, we have different tiles(or can be the same) for both planes, and we can also set animated or static tiles at any posicion(that can be relative or absolute to the camera), and also sprites triggered by the players position. At least for this project this approach has been flexible enough
WOW, very good guys! Nice atmosphere and cool abstract graphics, the concept seems very good and it will be interesting to see how the gameplay works in the next build.

Its tilebased yes, and for this build we modified it all in xml, as we dont have a level editor up yet. We love hard work and looots of values!
