  • 2 differents style and a good fight

  • The '80s had the best of sport. Boxing, baseball, football, College and NBA basketball, tennis and even the Olympics were all killer. Boxing is gone, the NBA is practically unwatchable, tennis and the Olympics seems to be just going thru the motions and the NFL, well that leauge is so popular ppl that dont even like sports watch it. (So I dont even really count the NFL)

  • Quality's superb . . . be interested to know where it was sourced from.

  • you have to be in shape to fight like this pacquiao would of never been able to stand after the first round these are real athletes hard work and determination

  • Hagler had a better chin that was the difference

  • hearns wasted his energy trying to ko hagler early and tired off.

  • @fernan2901 he had no legs before the fight. was getting massaged until steward saw it and flipped out.

  • i have a gut fealling that another wave of great fights/fighters is coming.

  • @ghns1133 Let us hope so!

  • @ghns1133

You mean like Pacquiao? Pound for pound, the best EVER. I wish Pretty Boy had at least one ball.

  • @bitmopro

    u said ball :)

  • @ghns1133

Either you didn't understand, or you're 15 years old.

  • @bitmopro

lol im imature just got it now....

im talking about the next gen...

pac n may only ave a few years leftin the game.

    :)

  • @ghns1133 i hope ima b on tht wave of gr8 fighters. My first fight usm 1 said i fight like rocky lol

  • @ghns1133 IF THE PROMOTERS STAY OUT OF THE WAY

  • @ghns1133 gamboa, donaire, rios, gary russell jr, mikey garcia can all fight in eachother, thats what needs to happen

  • best fight ever would of loved to see it live . the first round WOW !!

  • these guys are fighting for respect not just the paycheck

  • The mid to late 80's were some glorious years for boxing.

  • @Wartfacedfreak The 70s and 80s were great. It lost it in the 90s and now I hardly even know any boxers. Sad. I loved watching boxing as a kid. You had so many great rivalries in all weight divisions.

  • hearns smiling at the end of the round is priceless

  • Legs a little rubbery here in round 2!!!

  • Two great fighters put on a great exhibition. Great champions.

  • Marvin Hagler. One of the most underated and maligned boxers in history. I totally agree with his decison to leave here. He never got the respect he absoutely deserved. The only way the guy could get a decison his by knocking them out. He was robbed so many times I can't count. The decisions he lost to Vito Antifermo were blatant robbery. And I thought he won the Leonard fight, too. One of the best

  • This was not on free tv originally. It was on pay per view at theateres and I went to see it at one. It was later on Wide World of Sports. Great fight!!!

  • mayweather sucks he would have been every top ten fighters bitch just like his dad was in the 70,and 80.

  • Hearns out of gas and it's only the 2nd round.

What the hell is the referee's problem?

He is too close to the fighters. He keeps reaching out with his left arm in an aborted motion at them and draws his arm back.

Apprently he was under instuctions to make sure there was never a clinch allowed

and so he is constantly trying to stop a clinch even when there is none.

That rteferee looks like he was on some sort of stimulant drugs.

  • Hearns has no punching power and no strength already

and it's only the second round.

  • @marcxopoco

His right hand was broken in the first round.

  • i loved how hearns was smiling after every huge shot, and at the end of the round, despite looking gone in the fight smiling to his corner.

  • Hearns: Quick feet, lightning jab, inhuman stamina= UNSTOPPABLE FORCE

Hagler: Steel chin, strong as a bull & all out heart= IMMOVABLE OBJECT

this is what happens when the two meet. the stuff of LEGENDS

  • This is what you will see in the Pacquiao Mayweather jr. fight. The only difference is that Floyd jr. will not go toe to toe against Pacquiao. He will run around the ring all night long. It will be a boring fight.

  • @tkathryyn first of all, mayweather is the bigger stronger man, so saying that pacquiao is gonna bully him like hagler bullied hearns is absurd...

hagler had much better boxing skills than pacquiao could ever hope to learn, and mayweather's defense is far superior to the best defense hearns ever showed.

if the fights happens pacquiao will be backing down in the later rounds, mark my words. this fight reminds me of the way mayweather was stalking mosley.

  • Do you remember when ABC Wild World of Sports was the shit for boxing!!! Amazing this fight was on free tv - I miss the 80's sometimes! Still amazes me this epic battle was on free tv!!

  • @JimBrownski The re-broadcast was on free TV. You had to pay to see it when it was first broadcast.

  • @3rdeyebar Wild World of sports doesn't even show the replays anymore. The point I was making is they would show great fights again on Free TV...Those days are gone. Now only HBO & Showtime show the pay per view replays

  • @3rdeyebar this was a Free ,PPV, or Closed circuit fight???

  • @3rdeyebar Very True!!! Where did JimBrownski get this idea that this fight was for free?

  • @3rdeyebar and everybody I even the fact the replay was on free tv doesn't happen anymore...Sad that boxing is relegated to cable

  • @JimBrownski And what about reports before fights ? And beer commercials ?... Epic.

  • @JimBrownski is full of it.

This fight was not live on free TV. It was on pay per view.

  • @marcxopoco Just checked dude and unfortunately there is no more room for you on sack so get off mine! Point I was making was Wild World of Sports used to have fights like this live or replay all the time...I can't even remember the last fight they had on their period....Last I rememeber was a David Tua fight back in the 90's...

  • @JimBrownski - I totally agree - my pop used to be an avid fan and I'm 39 now. Some of my best times were watching these fights with him on a weekend......I don't honestly remember if we had to pay for it then but MOST were free...the olympic bouts were awesome also.....

  • @JimBrownski

Sorry to tell you but the ABC broadcast didnt show until the week before Hagler-Leonard, almost two years after the live broadcast. Even HBO could not afford to show it live

  • Hearns is not covering up. Tommy could not keep up at this frenetic pace. He burned himself out after round 1. Marvin blocks almost every jab that Hearns throws at him.

  • I was lucky enough to be a teenager when Hagler, Hearns, Arguello, Pryor, Mancini, Duran, etc. were fighting. These two were my favorites....Hearns' right was the greatest I remember and Hagler was just the best pure fighter I ever saw.

  • UFC is a joke compared with this.

  • The problem with boxing is that unless you have 0 losses you get written off as a bum...and everyone is too scared to lose that 0, so they play it safe too much. If I owned one of the boxing bodies I'd run it like the ufc and drop all fighters who aren't there to put on a good show for the fans.

  • it's funny how in every sport it seems like the current day athletes could outclass the old athletes of the day EXCEPT in boxing. just watching this match could convince you of that.

  • Wow--all respect to Hearns. Anyone else would've dropped to their knees and started crying about a minute into this round

  • I always get a giggle when I hear Emmanuel Stewart(Hearn's trainer) tell how someone massaged Hearn's legs in the dressing room before the fight and that's why Tommy had no legs under him after the 2nd round. I guess all that "massaging" that Hagler did on Tommy's body & face didn't help with the outcome, huh Emmanuel? Hahaha.......

  • Ithink it would be safe to say that the 80s was the golden age of middleweight boxing. very talent-deep. Hagler, Hearnes, Leonard, Duran, the list goes on

  • DEBEN BUSCAR DE DIOS

  • Well Marvs Still the Champ too me.and Tommy too for that matter .....

  • a hellacious fight. could easily be career ending for normal people. makes the ufc look like a cake walk.

  • 25 years to the day!!!! :-)

  • incredible

  • Legs a little rubbery here in round 2!!!

  • Has anyone ever counted how many solid punches to the head these guys took?

  • You can't say hagler was the naturally bigger guy when hearns won 3 titles at weights higher than 160. He won at 168 and 2X won the lightheavy title at 175.

Hearns lost the fight because Hagler was the much more durable fighter. Hagler simply took a much better punch and never had hand problems like Hearns had. When Hearns lost his big weapon it was over.

  • That wwas one of the greatest fights I have ever seen!!!

  • gotta remember that hagler is a naturaly bigger man than hearns aswell

  • But they weight almost the same.

  • @fishguts525 it showed to

  • These wars are exciting to watch. What made this one so great was both of them were willing to fight toe to toe from the bell. But not all great fighters did this. Look at sugar ray leonard, he didnt fight nearly as offensive as this. Kinda the defensive "hit & run" style. Simliar to todays Mayweather jr. I admit its not as fun to watch, but it still takes amazing talent.

  • @zk92000 the most competitive welterweight match of all time would be between a prime pretty boy floyd and a prime sugar ray leonard

  • @maxsun13 I strongly disagree, Leonard would give Gayweather a boxing lesson. Leonard actually had good offensive skills while Mayweather is all defense. Mayweather reminds of a crapier version of Sweet Pea. Dude you must be crazy, if Castillo could penetrate Mayweather's defense I couldn't imagine what Sugar Ray would do to Gayweather. Leonard would destroy him.

  • @Thenasty06 mayweather has no offense? watch more of his fights. your comment is a fucking joke. mayweather is not the most accurate puncher in the history of boxing for no reason. watch mayweather's fights against corrales and gatti, punk.

and how is he a crapper version of sweat pea if he has fought tougher opposition and has a better record than sweet pea? if anything sweet pea was an earlier, crapper version of mayweather.

  • @maxsun13 Are you fucking serious, Gayweather hasn't fought anybody good. While Sweet Pea beat Haugen, Ramirez, Nelson, Nazario, and got a lopped sided draw against Chavez. Whitaker is a legend and hall of famer, while Mayweather hasn't even beaten a legitimate welterweight. When he had chance to fight a prime Margarito but backed and split with Arum. Now that's a pussy.

  • @maxsun13 Sweet Pea a crapier version of Mayweather are you stupid, you obviously don't anything about boxing. I'll bet you $100 that Mayweather developed his style from the OG Sweet Pea. Except unlike Sweet Pea, Mayweather is scared to fight top level opponent, while Sweet Pea in his day fought all the top fighters. Are you serious Mayweather is scared to fight a smaller Pacquiao.

  • @maxsun13 Now tell me about this top level opposition the Gayweather has fought? Oh wait I know some fighters there was a tiny Marquez, old man De la Hoya, glass chin Hatton, and old ass Mosley. Are you fucking retarded, Sweet Pea is one of the greatest fighters who ever lived, and for being pussy bitch Mayweather won't even be inducted into the hall of fame. Now you're basically saying Mayweather is one of the greatest welterweights, man go get a brain scan fucking retard.

  • @Thenasty06 just b/c sweet pea is legitimately a great fighter doesn't mean you have to downplay money's achievements, comparing them is impossible. you can't say money didn't fight anyone good at the lighter weights. you can't really compare these two fighters, they're both really slick fighters the main difference is money has way more knockouts and a way higher KO percentage than sweet pea. the fact that you're referring to a man way more accomplished than you as gayweather is absurd grow up

  • @Thenasty06 mayweather fought prime fighters: genaro hernandez, corrales, castillo, zab judah, carlos baldomir (FOR THE SAME AMOUNT OF MONEY AS HE WOULD HAVE GOT FOR FIGHTING MARGARITO), a near-prime Oscar (old man oscar? that's bullshit, Oscar looked really good against Mayweather), a really good Marquez (just 2 year prior he gave Pacquiao all he could handle that's not what shot fighters do!)....you're just a straight up hater, newsflash sweet pea and boxers from the past aren't coming back!

  • @maxsun13 You're statement about Mayweather having a higher knockout percentage than Sweet Pea is out of context solely on the basis that Sweet Pea had harder competition. Remember Sweet Pea was the first to knockdown Greg Haugen. Sweet Pea is and was a better fighter. Another thing me not appreciatin the boxers of tonight is absurd you're the one who is comparing Mayweather to Sugar Ray, for me and to many is so ridiculous because Sugar Ray had a complete career, while Mayweather ducked every1.

  • @Thenasty06 so fucking learn to appreciate the boxers who are active TODAY. its pointless to hate on pacquiao or mayweather or any top boxer today they are at the top of their game for a fucking reason. they can box better than you, me, anyone else in the world basically, so keep your hate and show some love.

  • @maxsun13 Because your statement about Leonard and Mayweather the greatest welterweight bout ever is so absurd on so many levels. Mayweather hasn't even beaten a legitimate welterweight in his career besides a aging Mosley, who only looked good in two rounds and then gassed out. I say the Margarito thing because that was his chance to prove to everybody he was a top welterweight but instead chickened out.

  • @maxsun13 I don't count the Marquez fight because Marquez is a pure lightweight, he looked so tiny against Mayweather it was like watching Carbajal fight Tyson. I do appreciated the fighters of today I have love for Manny, but not Mayweather. On a technical basis he's a sold fighter but he's never really tested his talents on tough fighters, and is too scared to do so. I've seen him duck so many fighters, that I have zero respect for him.

  • Is floyd belongs to these great boxers? No, He is a great BALLERINA. with good perhaps with the best skill but no guts not a warrior. floyd you're soon to be forgotten. sorry you are killing the sport.

  • Hearns is backing up the whole fight. Just the opposite of his fight with Duran. Hagler is a machine and much stronger than Hearns. Hearns gave it his best to knock him out in the first round but just didn't have the firepower.

  • @santiken

Not the whole fight. He fractured his hand in the first (due to Hagler being as tough as nails), which is why he isn't throwing any rights.

Great fight, great fighters. However, Hearns did break his right hand, impacting on his style.

  • did anyone spot that richard pryor is the ref!

    haha

  • I think Hagler was too strong and tough for Hearns, although Hearns speed and power shook hin for a moment. Strangely, Hearns tried to get rid of him early instead of boxing from a distance, at which he was excellent.

  • hearns broke his hand in the middle of round 1 u can tell he holds back

  • hagler, tough as teak fighter vs hearns the stylish boxer.. lessons to be learnt tommy, dont go toe to toe with the toughest sww/mw of all time and expect an easy ride.. imagine calzaghi in with these guys!!hearns,hagler,leonard,duran,mugabe... i doubt he`d have got a shot at the title..the only recent fighters would have been eubank and maybe benn on a good day..different class. buy `4 kings` dvd..shows how far apart these guys were to todays dross..yes you floyd as well.these guys can HIT HARD..

  • @daz70den

If Calzaghe was around in the 80's, he'd have been a lightheavyweight. He has never fought as a middleweight and only Hearns would ever have faced him, Hearns being genuine 175lb fighter at times in his career.

  • Hagler v Mugabi - one truly unbelievable war, many look at this fight and the mugabi fight as the reason why Leonard wanted to fight Hagler in 1987 - he knew Hagler was coming off two real battles that had aged him as a fighter - you have to watch the Mugabi fight to understand how much a fighter wears himself out fighting toe to toe wars - But Marvin will always be the ultimate ring warrior .

  • My thoughts regarding Hagler. In the 1970tees when hagler was making his way thru the division he had double the amount of fights before he was aloud to fight for a world title compare that to todays fighters who fight for titles at around 20 contest Hagler could have been even gr8ter but the system held him down. But I am still a Hagler fan til I die

  • chisacat is absolutely right. The Hagler-Mugabi fight was truly epic in every way. Probably the best fight I have ever seen.

  • @chisacat Hagler was the man without a doubt and ranks as my favourite fighter of all time. Would of loved to see him up against Monzon and naturally I thought he was robbed against Leornard. The only fighter today who ranks alongside is Manny - same aggression and sheer will to win whatever the costs'

  • haggler came in freakin' guns blazing!!! awesome!!!!!

  • Tommy Hearns Jeri Curl juice flying into the camera ringside .. Classic boxing by legends of the sport

  • haglers an animal

  • Hagler was a badass. His chin was made of concrete.

  • I've never seen anyone with a better chin than Hagler. Hearns' right hand destroyed most fighters.....in fact, watch his highlights on youtube.....but Hagler took his rights and just kept coming after him. He's still my favorite fighter of all time.

  • Definitely one of mine too..maybe the greatest middleweight of all time, certainly of the last 30 years anyway.

  • @ewoldt margarito?

  • Respond to this video... theres no point of comparing these guys to floyd, even if they were about in the same era floyd wouldv never faced them..he would find every excuse and fight guys like hector camacho n floyd snr lol

  • @MrJourneyman1986 AMEN!!!

  • He had a great chin, but when im thinking about great chins, Chris eubank always comes to mind. Not the best boxer, but a hell of a chin. never seen him hurt from a punch. hagler the much better boxer anyway.

  • They both have something in common both lost fixed fights to Suger Ray

  • Hagler was a thing of beauty in this fight

  • Wikipedias great!

  • Hagler was never knocked down his entire career, LEGEND

  • Juan Roldan dropped Hagler in the 1st round and is the only person to to be recorded as having a knockdown of Hagler even thoe most people regard it as a slip by Hagler.

  • Talk about throwing bombs.

    Wow!

  • Hagler is such a polished fighter who possesses one of the best chins in all of mankind

  • was

  • I would've loved to see Hagler vs one of the great mexican champions of our time. 2 great sluggers in the ring just toe to toe last man standing wins. Hagler one of my favorite fighters of all time and I'm mexican so that tell's u smthng about how great he was!!!

  • haglers conditioning is super human.

  • yeah, good conditioning, but with his style its very relaxed and he doesnt need to move as much as his apponents. he makes his apponents move very much.

  • Tommy landed some real nice left hooks in this round but hagler had such a great chin hecouldn't move him off.

  • I think that's what the difference was in this fight. Hearns was the better boxer but Hagler was just freakishly tough.

  • I remember seeing this fight as a little kid. I didn't know much about fighting or boxing at all. Then these guys came out slugging in round one and I remember thinking, "I've never seen people this tough in my life".

  • man none of the new boxers compare to the Hearns , Sugar Ray and Haglers Era .

  • hatton Beat tyzu an urango malinaghie collazo muassa castillio he thougt alot of top 5 rated welters got knocked out pacs been k,o,ed it happens ye fool hope hatton makes a come back beats jokes like ortis and other yank pretenders who are a load of b,s but get hyped up by daft yanky clueless mups thinking thats were the talents at brits have 7 furtre world champs comeing threwnext two years there will be a brit champ in almost every div

  • One of my favorite fights ever. Hearns gave everything he had but just couldn't withstand Hagler's relentlessness. This fight, and his next one against Mugabi were perfect examples of Hagler just refusing to be denied and imposing his will on his opponent. Hearns was an awesome fighter, but just could never seem to win the big ones....though he was robbed in his 2nd fight against Leonard.

  • the harder tommy hit marv the harder he got hit back.best ever still remember watching it live .happy days when boxing was worth watching

  • I thank God for being a teenager in the 1980's......great music and great boxing....I remember the Arguello/Pryor fights and everything with Hagler, Hearns, Duran and Leonard.

  • Thank you 3rdeyebar. This is a memorable fight, EVERY ROUND.

  • Hatton got dominated and exposed to be a guy that knocked out a lot of tomato cans in England.

Hearns is one of the all-time greats that in this fight went down throwing everything but the kitchen sink at Hagler. It's a shame he broke his right hand and that his legs betrayed him when he tried to move and box

  • Two truly great boxers from boxing's last Great Era. Today's stardard of boxing is just embarrassing when compared to this.

  • Embarrassing?? Why, yes! That's just the word! Thank you, Kelbert88!

  • @Kelbert88 dude so true.....todays "legends"....if you can even call them that(i dont think you can)......they dont box like this......its not the sweet science....now this is very sweet!

  • @Kelbert88 i wouldnt say embarresing, u cant take anything away from the fightyers its just caution over the years from the reffs and the boxing board boxing is still a great sport

  • @Kelbert88. Your comment is extremely ignorant and false. SURE hagler hearns was AMAZING, but there were plenty of fights in 2000-09 that were just as or maybe even better than this. MAB vs Morales, Gatti ward trilogy, Corralles Castillo, vasquez vs marquez and many many more

  • @Kelbert88

I couldn't agree with you more.

  • @Kelbert88 true, true

  • I'm young and this was before my time so im not sure about this but Hagler and Hearns had a trilogy right?? and if so which fight is this one? and WOW!!! this is one of the most brutal fights i've ever seen

  • No, JCR1992, there was only one bout between these two. That was enough for both!

  • How did 1 of these boxers not end this fight with brain damage? the blows they're exchanging is phenomenal.

  • I wasn't even born when this happen but this was one hell of a fight.

  • Boxing1977Boxing, get a clue!

  • Hearns tried to box and use more movement in Round 2 but you can tell his legs are shot. He's backing straight up more than using lateral movement and he's a sitting duck for Marvin

  • Hagler was not a technician. Hearns was. Hagler always wanted to challenge guys moving up from the lower weights, yet Marvin never did the same as Duran or Hearns or Leonard by moving up and fighting Spinks, who wanted to fight him. Why didn't Marvin have the guts to do what Hearns had the guts to do. And telling me Hearns height makes it fair, no that does not mean he is natural at the weight. Qawi at 175 was 5-6 tall.. Why didn't Hagler have the guts?

  • give it up. Hearns would never stop hagler. ever. Hearns was the better agressor, could take the better punch, was the better inside fighter, and better conditioned. stop trying to turn every comment into a "why hearns is great" post. Hearns broke his hand hitting hagler with his hardest punch, with that being said, hagler was back all over him townards the middle of the round. Hearns hurt him briefly. after his right was gone so was he.

  • absobledinlutely mate hagler topped em all back then.never a dull fight from marv.regards

  • because he quit because he was robbed in the leanord fight and i respect him 4 that. u know he would murder spinks in the ring 2! it would b just like the tyson fight

  • who did you ever fight - you question marvin haglers guts ??? Great - another internet hardman - fucktard get out of your moms basement and go spar a 160 pound middleweight contender then come back and comment on the marvelous one - fucking geek freak of the week that you are.

  • Did you just say that Hagler dont had guts? You must be out of your mind!

  • Hearns was faster than Hagler, you could see that, but by this point Marvin was in better shape because he was the natural middleweight. But Hearns was the greater fighter. Marvin never beat guys like Cueves or Duran the way Hearns did. Or outbox Benitez or Virgil Hill quality. Too bad Tommy fought this style when he was not as natural middleweight. If you see round 3 , Marvin was starting to get tired and had Hearns been able to come on, he could have stopped Marvin.

  • you know jack shit about hagler, hearns or boxing - it wasnt as easy back then to move through the weights as it is now - besides hagler dominated his division from 78 to 80 as uncrowned champion - then from 80 to 87 as undisputed champ - only for media darling SRL to rob in vegas - fuck off back to wii fit or x box or whereever else you formed your boxing idea's

  • One sided fight and even when hearns tries to move and stay away from hagler he cannot do it. Hagler landed punches all round long.

hearns' height advantage meant nothing in this fight.

  • I like Hagler but he really went low on several occasions. He gained an advantage by cheating.

  • hearns problem is he never developed a sharp jab, he never really needed it thus he didnt work on it.. this haunted him here. the lack of jab allowed hagler to weaver under the right cross and come in w/ heavy blows. secondly, tommy never had great legs. his legs always went first & then he would get gangly & off balance. happened in the first leonard fight too.

  • he had a great jab. hagler just didnt give him the time to frow it.

  • Duran, Leonard, Hagler, Hearns....they sure don't make 'em like they used to!

  • Hearns is a great middleweight fighter, he could swing in and land his jabs nicely, but I don't have enough information on Hearns, but from initial look Hearns seems a bit weak on his stance. Needs a rematch...

  • A rematch? Ha, ha, LokitheCajun, Lol! These guys are in their 50's now. A rematch would have been good in 1986. Hearns didn't seem to me to be prepared to go the distance in this fight. If you want to see a good Tommy Hearns fight, sugar ray leonard and tommy hearns in 1981 was pretty good. Hearns was ahead on points before getting tko'd in round 14. Cutting title fights from 15 to 12 rounds really hurt boxing. Hearns would have won that fight with Leonard had it only been a 12 rounder.

  • Hagler was too good a technician for Tommy

  • True, Hearns broke his hand in the first round. Notice how little he uses his right in round2.

  • You're right! I've never noticed that even though I've seen this fight like 20 times. Even when he does throw the right, it's more of a setup punch than anything. Gotta give him his dues for not giving up!

  • Its a good fight but, I think its overrated I mean lok at frazier and ali 3 that was 14 rounds of this.

  • Maybe someone will agree with me....I always felt like Herns was always really unstable and off-balance with his legs. Is it me or do and of you think I'm onto something. Never have I ever heard anyone say that Herns was not solid on his feet? You're ideas?

  • You are right. The issue with Hearns was his legs which were weak. This was his achilles heal. If he had a strong er foundation to sustain him throughout a fight, Hagler, Leonard all the rest would be dust in the wind and footnotes to Hearns as Hearns power would eventually get you.

  • Cool....thanks for you're thoughts. Any fan of boxing knows that power starts in your footing and legs. Just imagine how he would have destroyed people if he actually had stronger legs. He would have been a monster!!

  • I remember his trainer Steward saying he got a massage just before the fight and was wobbly thereafter. Hearns legs were usually never this rubbery this early and took a lot of snap off the shots. The broken right couldnt have helped either.

  • Interesting! I hadn't ever heard any of that....I didnt know that he'd broken his hand. I'm such a wimp, I would have quit. I've got a broken right now and all I can say is that anyone that fights with a broken hand is a stud or studess! Unbelievable.

  • i like how hagler cuts the ring of mike tyson must have watched alot of haggler action because i think the both cut the ring off very well

  • Hagler didn't duck too much did he? Great action.

  • Hagler is text book. A truly great athlete who just happens to box.

  • That sequence from 2:34 to 2:40 was brutal. Tommy took his beating like a man.

  • Switching to southpaw was the key for Hagler in this fight. Those right jabs really shook Hearns.

My dad always said Hagler had three fists, his left, his right and his big bald head.

Both these guys would destroy the middleweights of this era.

  • Great comment!

  • Probably true; Hearns broke his hand during the course of the fight, presumably after glancing a shot off of either Hagler's elbow or his head. Hagler was renowned for having one of the best chins not only of his era or weight class, but across all time boxing.

  • hagler owned this round

  • Boy Hearns sure has some long arms. Crazy. But I favor Hagler between the two of them. I like his style better. Funny how it seems boxers have like a fight "personality" or style that some I like more than others. Hagler reminds me of a bull. LOL

  • hagler was best back he stalked his prey and nothing stopped him he was NEVER off his ever i think they used call him a "bull" in his early days before he became "marvelous"well worth reading about him on wiki .regards.

  • current fighters dont have shit on these guys.

  • I think thats a bit unfair i loved this fight as much as anyone but theres still plenty of great fighters out there.Hagler and Hearns had weaknesses just like any other boxer.Haglers a bit on the small side for a middleweight and Hearns had a weak chin.I think Monzon would have beat either of theese two fighters. That said probably about the most exciting three rounds of boxing you will see.If Hearns was a bit smarter he could have jabbed Hagler to death and won late on or by decision.

  • Its too bad..the hype was too much even for emanual steward as hearns was clearly over trained and he was spent in the second..his legs were non existent..just look at the video ..how many times almost fell on his own accord.

  • i remember watching this on our old B&W TV...those were the days when boxing was at best..Duran,Leonard, Hearns, Hagler each one wants to be the best so they seek and fought the best and literally beating each other's @rses... the first round alone of this fight between Hearns and Hagler surpasses the overhyped "the world awaits" fight and maybe even the rematch...
