From what I can see the creature seems innocent, the humans are the real monsters as they come into his habitat and bother him. The creature is just trying to defending himself from human invaders. Hopefully the new movie will make the creature more of a hero then a monster.
I always close my eyes in monster films, but you made this so entertaining, I might be able to look at every frame! Swimming, however, now is not so sure. Your reviews are the BEST!!
Great reviews of what were indeed not only some of the best boo flicks of the 50s but, as you say, the last gasp for Universal monsters (not counting "The Munsters," where CFTBL, as "Uncle Gilbert," did turn up once).. And that book displayed behind you, Gifford's "A Pictorial History of Horror Movies," is a real treasure, isn't it? Also, the commentary tracks for the excellent collectors' DVD set you hold up are really worthwhile (loved the bit about the telephone pole in the "Amazon").
Great commentary..... but why didnt you mention that "Creature" was originally made in 3D? That was one of its big claim to fame.... Original 3D prints still exist and I saw this a couple of years ago at a special revival, in 3D, with 3D glasses. Its rather amazing in 3D. Shame on you for omitting this part of movie history.....

Steve -
I believe the short, underwater "creature" was a man named Jack Betz. A scuba diver
and my biology teacher at Sarasota Highschool. At least that's what he told us.

@Apartment0 No, the underwater scenes were played by Ricou Browning, while Ben Chapman did the rest.
