The guy at the start is the leader of Cerberus (voiced by Martin Sheen no less). They are mentioned a few times during the original Mass Effect but not really focused on.

The woman is Miranda Lawson, she is a character from the Mass Effect Galaxy cartoon and a party member in ME2.

The original party members don't carry over into ME2, they make appearances in the game but the only one that is actually recruitable is Tali, apparently.

awesome i love tali anyway i hope she gets a more close relationship with shepherd obviously not sex shed catch anything and every disease in the book haha buts its nice to show that shes still female and not some crazy looking geth lookalike with no soul
