It was a great hit, but Sheldon Brown was able to tee off and hit essentially a defenseless receiver. Jackson takes the shot, hangs on to the ball for what would have been a first down if it weren't for a penalty, I believe, while the rest of the Eagles danced around like it was the first night of Kwanzaa. They should've all got in a line, patted Jackson on the back and said nice play. I love it when athletes celebrate making a tackle 14 yards down the field.
In a situation like that you gotta jack up the reciever, he's defenseless and could fumble. B-Dawk has killed so many plays by hitting guys just as they catch the ball, that's football.
Anyway, I don't know if you remember, but the Eagles defense only let up three points that game. That play was one of the longest of the contest and they got a huge hit. They can celebrate all they want.
Oh I'm with ya, you've gotta blow up a receiver in that situation. It was a totally legal hit. The part I loved is that Jackson held onto the ball. Dudes a stud. And holding St. Louis to 3 points isn't exactly a feat. The Rams could play with no defense on the field and be lucky to find the endzone this year. I still think it's hilarious they were celebrating the fact that a guy gained a first down on them and held onto the ball after a huge hit. Gave me more respect for Jackson.
Nah, I remember watching the full highligh on sportscenter or something like that, and that was the extended take where they were all jumping around. Both of you guys are absolutely right, you didn't see celebration in this short clip.
Sheldon Brown is a hard hitting cornerback, one of the hardest in the game. But Steven Jackson is on a whole 'nother level.
