  • One question remains, how did this chassis win BTCC a couple of times?

  • The 2004 Vectra CDX is a bloody good car for what it is. Great steering and decent amount of kit for what it is.

  • My mother has a normal version of the vectra. Man, how i hate that car... It sucks in every way...

  • what is that song off at 1:59?!!!! It reminds me of something but I don't know what?!

  • None of u cunts even know what u r talking about, bet u all drive about in pishy little 2grand fiestas. Fucking idiots

  • what about an evo?

  • The only thing worse than that vectra is james jeans...

  • SRi and VXR versions always seem to be driven by the geeky bellend types for some reason.

Clarksons right though, the vectras shit, as are most vauxhalls..

  • I CANT STAND IT ANYMORE. ITS REAL NAME IS OPEL VECTRA FOR CRYING OUT LOUD.

  • @Zaenoz therrye the same thing

  • One of the most boring cars in the world!

  • my dad has this its quick and its not bad

  • Este JC é mesmo um filho da puta. Era só duas chapadas nesse focinho inglês horrível.

  • vauxhall stolen everything from opel.EVERYTHING!!!!!

  • @vojin54

    Theyre the same company. Idiot.

  • @vojin54 you do know that they are sister companies don't you ;)

  • you know Ive heard rumours clarkson turned the TC and ESP off just to poke fun at this car

    little bias dont you think

  • @markTK901 They do that with almost all of the cars they test. Taking the driver aids off is the best way to see how good a car really is.

  • @markTK901 lol You turn the TC and ESP by default when you are on a track they just slow you down!

  • The Vectra is designed to be a small, cheap, and luxurious compact sedan designed for long distance cruising and city driving. When you drive normally (not like a baboon with down-syndrome like Clarkson does) under-steer is negligible and the car handles normally. Older versions (from 2004) are really vale and ideal for a first car because of quality interior design, safety features, and off the mark performance (handy at a t-junction). in the words of may, "Clarkson you un-sufferable pillock"

  • @Mainiac1221 that's true for the normal version, not for a version supposed to be sporty! and cost almost as much as BMW 335i or an Audi S4

  • @B4Shock Vauxhall have several categories of cars, the Vectra is in their category of Large Family Car before it was replaced by the Insignia which is also in that category. Just because they made one with a bigger engine does not mean it is in any different category. *facepalm yourself* Anyway I was referring to the Vauxhall Vectra as a whole not just this type. Wanker!!

  • this is a great family car

I don't understand why the fuck they review these kind of cars on a fucking race track.

  • Comment removed

  • Using the Robocop theme for a vectra test. Good choice.

  • If people want to have a Ford rather than a Opel/Vauxhall. Then they no nothing about cars. Ford is one of the worst peace of shit cars.

I work woth Ford's and Opel/Vauxhall. I know what car i rather have. Opel!

  • @Jellie91 That may be, but Fords since about 1997 have ALWAYS handled and driven better than their equivalent Vauxhall. And that's what this is about: the car as a CAR. The Mondeo is a truer, better machine to drive. More balanced, more throttle-adjustable, more progressive brakes, a very fluid chassis, the list goes on. The Vectra isn't terrible but it's NOWHERE near the Vectra. And for reference, I've owned Vauxhalls and Fords and now drive a BMW so have no bias whatsoever.

  • What is this song?? 0:03 - 0:18 :)

  • @04eldo its called blinded by the light

  • don't know how he can call it 'shit' not everyone who buys a performance car is going to be taking it on a track daily.

  • @Shizum21 I think he's calling it 'shit' based on the fact it's billed as a performance car and doesn't perform. So someone looking to buy a performance car would be disappointed, regardless of whether they track it or not

  • 4:02 hahahahahahahahahhahahahahahahahahahaha!!

    dont ask, just click it

  • I have an Opel Vectra and it's a great car.

  • Why they even bothered to do so crappy driveable car back then...... FWD=Rubbish

  • the evo 8 fq400 is faster then the vectra

  • OMG! One of the worst understeers I've ever seen!

Another car with no soul. Just to go from place A to B.

Get an Alfa Romeo and have fun all day long! =)

  • also it is large family car, it was designed to go at 50mph along country roads or maybe cruise comfortably at 70mph on a motorway, not go at 150mph down on a track. vauxhall distributed it as a normal road family car not a racecar!! maybe that's why you think it has 'catastrophic understeer' for me it is a perfectly sized and perfect performing car that is great for what it was designed for!!!

  • clarkson i usually agree with what you say but there is no way i will agree with you when u say that the vauxhall vectra is a bad car. it was the first car i ever drove and as a FIRST TIME DRIVER i had no problem whatsoever with this car.

  • @reduolf It may not be a "bad" as a tool to get you from A to B but unfortunately Clarkson is right, the Vectra VXR IS a bad car. I actually think the 1.9 diesels are better - they make more sense. In this application, a Vectra VXR offers nowhere near the fun or accomplishment than a Mondeo ST offers.

  • vectra's are terrible, they always were, not a patch on the old cavalier, give me a late cavalier 4x4 turbo any day, i'd rather have the ford, and i hate fords.

  • i think the reason of the terrible understeiring is a terrible driver.

i have an vectra too and it´s very good to drive with that car

  • This is FWD Drifting... :D

  • its a woderful car, but i think it has to be a OPEL vectra OPC ;)

  • I agree with Clarkson. 280 hp engine is way too poweful for front wheel drive. If this was 4wd, it would be much more interesting.

  • @frozenman82 Better tell Ford that with the Focus RS...

  • Clarkson you suck stupid person

    vxr rulesssssssssss

  • Clarkson you suck stupid person

    vxr rulesssssssssss

  • beautiful car !

  • Look at those tires, allmost at max angle... ofcourse it go stright!...

  • Of course this is going to happen with that much horsepower and he is also steering with a great angle that the tires cant handle the turn also keeps accelerating causes understeer theres no prblem with that car. If you floor a lambo the oversteer will happen than a lambo is shitty car too then. Top gear dont fcuk with OPEL

  • @4damage Yes but you ignore the simple facts. The Mondeo doesn't do this. The Mazda doesn't do this. A Focus RS with over 300bhp through the front wheels barely does this. They should have made it AWD like they did for the Insignia VXR - an infinitely better car in every single way possible. The Vectra VXR is a quick car for the money but a totally rubbish "drivers" car - I'd MUCH rather have a slower, but inherently better, Mondeo ST or an older BMW 325i for the money.

  • @benwestonjazz Agreed

  • i really cant see Jeremy's point of view on this car, i agree thought that the understeer is lethal as fuck but the car in general doesnt seem to bad.

  • 3:13 same thing happened to me in gt5 :) vectra sucks :D

  • @eugabriel80 what a dick head could you really not think of anything relative to say you retard?? Fuck you

  • fuck england ,fuck top gear and the english car

  • HA HA Clarkson you dickhead, pissed all over your Ford. Your such an arsehole.

  • @DIAMONDGEEZER64 Only in a straight line. The only application where the VXR would be better is as a straight motorway cruiser. Which is fine. But for an enthusiast driver on a B road or track, the Mondeo is actually quicker because the chassis is so much better. This Stig was an F1 driver, so he knows his stuff, and the Mondeo was quicker round the track than the Vectra. I don't get fanboyism and bias in cars - just go for whatever car is better. Life's too short for prejudice.

  • @benwestonjazz OK, I cant say how well the ST or the VXR handles coz Iv not driven either. But I cant help thinking that the press seem to give Ford a much easier time than Vauxhall. Just the other day I saw a write up about the new Mondeo and they were calling it brilliant before anyones even seen it! I bet no other make would get that and yet the GTC has been given praise but it seems almost given reluctantly. Mind you if I had 20 grand I would get a Lotus carlton. Nothing compares to that.

  • Music from Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory, good choice!

  • What about an evo? Is this faster than that?

  • Don't understand why all the little vauxhall warriors are saying he turned the TCS off etc, most reasonable people who know a bit about cars know that vauxhall just can't get suspension and chassis setups right.

  • mate not been funny you like the car is gud well gud for you but every body eles thinks its crap.....;;;merry -x-mas to you

  • there is only 11 in uk......because there are shit fact.......

  • @eliott12b About a 1000 actually lad

  • I take it this cars Spot then?

  • @Ryoku75 I thought he meant it was a slut!

  • Oh look its a minicab race. I own a normal version of that Vectra and yes, its duller than boiled celery

  • @deathstardisco well what the hell do you expect? vauxhall designed to normal vectra it to be a big, good-sized family car built to cover longs distances on motorways and such for families. all you petrolheads think that just coz it doesn't drive at 200mph and turn corners like and f1 car, it is suddenly a dull and boring car??!! next time buy a fucking ferrari f340 and jizz over that, the normal vectra isn't for that sort of stuff!

  • @reduolf Never said it was slow or inagile. I said it was dull. Opel really should have made more of an effort with its appearance - especially inside. Look at Passats or Accords, the Vectra really doesn't look its worth. For a midsize family car it does behave quite well, but its like moving quickly in a library van.

  • 4 door saloon cars faster then the vectra in a straight line? Well i got one -> Mitsubishi evo VIII FQ-400

  • @MaadSkilLz123

    it's faster in everything

  • @MrTR500 Yeah thanks for that! They are trying to imply its as quick as either German car which it isn't. By the time the vectra got to 160 (which it wont do) both of the others would be half a mile away.

  • How come Europe gets all the car fun?lol I would love to see SEATs,Citroens,Peugeots,MGs and these Opels/Vauxhalls/Holdens as Chevys or Buicks out here in the states

  • Flat out it's Quicker than an AMG merc and an M5? How the hell does he have the nuts to say something like that? De-restricted both of them will do over 200mph.

Wasn't this the series that they kept using "Torques" as a unit of measurement?

  • @vtwin77 he's making a comment that since they are restricted the vectra is faster.

  • @vtwin77 derestricted, so, thats not standard as they leave the shop then.......

  • the car is apalling and its made cheaply i would rather have a bmw, merc, or saab

  • @connor6770 saab is the same car lol, mercs aren't built propeley and BMW's have brake issues, Audi are the best.

  • @hamster639 1) Mercedes are the best! 2) when jeremy tested the Saab 9-5 he didn't mention anything about under or over steer. 3) Mercedes are built properly 4) Audi are over priced and the seats are too firm.

  • the car is apalling and its made cheaply rather have an amg mercedes or saab 95 rather than that.

  • At what point when you get understeer do you put you foot down more and turn in more? you fucking don,t. just like the TYPE R they reviewed. 3 monkey,s have the best job in the world and get away with fucking it up. baffles me.

  • It sticks out like dogs balls that Clarkson will always slagg off any performance vectra=the mans a car snobb when it comes to vauxhall.

  • @andypandy133 Yer I agree with you, who drives like that on the road anyway. He also was a snob when it comes to rover and made untrue lies about their cars, he needs to stop fucking his fords.

  • The previous(2001-2002) Vectras were a lot better. Thumbs up if you agree.

  • @MrButtcrap. no thumbs up.lol not surprised 2001-2002 vectras where better. don,t fucking think so.

  • i drove a ford st for awhile, whilst my dad couldnt drive (broken hip) and it was just far too "safe" it never felt like it wanted to go fast, i dunno it just didnt have a punch to it sort of say.

  • I got a Vectra, think its ok.. Im not a racing driver. Gotto say one thing, I love traffic lights. Its leaves everything behind. Just go a bit slower around corners...

  • The vectra VXR's handling is doibolical. It's like trying to control a charging rhino

  • not always Claskson shows up as realistic.

  • everytime they do a drag race with an vauxhall the vauxhall always wins

  • @ninjamoto21. because it thinks it,s going to the scrapyard.lol

  • He hates driving it so much, so instead of letting Hammond or May do the review he does it and simply just bullshits his way through it. He turned off all the driving aids just to try and make it look bad, yet thers maybe one review that agreed with him. Even topgears website review liked the car. And strangely eough anyone that seen the full episode with this review will note that the Stig never had any major issues with it either. Clarkson is basically just full of shit.

  • It might might be faster than M5, but M5's faster than it. Just throw in some money on M5's engine, and you will have a Ferrari/Lamborghini killer

  • VXR FTW!

Clearly a staged test, I've been on VXR days and driven a couple on backroads and for a big saloon they handle really well! Don't get me wrong a scooby/evo would kick it's arse on the backroads, but you don't buy a VXR for backroad blastic and near-on rally terrain, I'd love one of these

  • MY VXR SPEC IS 309BHP AND 423LB/FT, MAPPED. THE TORQUE IS SIMPLY BLISTERING. AFTER THE MAP I CAN NOW PULL AWAY FROM SUBARU'S AND M3'S ROLLING START OF COURSE. off the line the subaru has too much grip but by 3rd gear im away love it lads!!!

  • @jhc85 dude, I drive a subaru GC8...i promise you, its not all about power. You can always get more power. with handling like that, you will certainly KILL yourself. I will take my awesome AWD handling over that bullshit anyday.

  • SO DONT BE FOOLED BY THIS VIDEO! THE VECTRA IS SIMPLY AWESOME AND NOT ONLY THE 5TH QUICKEST SALOON MONEY CAN BUY BUT IT ALSO THE RAREST! For Example i have a estate in the same arden blue as in this video. There are only 11 registered in the uk FACT!

  • one thing about this video bugs me, I HAVE A VECTRA VXR, and i have been around back rds againt my mates subaru. IT handles alot beeter than clarkson shows, but i had to investigate. I found out that because the vectra they loaned off vauxhall had no button to disable the traction control, they decided to just remove the fuses which acutualy does disable the traction control NOT only does it disable the tractionit also disables the electronic suspension WHICH IM PROUD TO HAVE DISCOVERED

  • @jhc85 wouldn't be suprised with 'clueless clarkson' & co, he shuld be banished to germany so he can shag his fords.

  • vectra/cavalier is so boring, no style at all, no character especially the A one.

  • "How many 4 door saloon-cars are actually faster than this?"... He forgot the Mitsubishi EVO, The Subaru Impreza and so on and so on.... Top Gear has gone soooooo bad over the years

  • @priman0cte jap is limited top speed...

  • @SuccessionLockon: True, but only those sold in Japan

  • funny thing, a lot of vauxhalls are actually holdens or opels

  • Please, what does he say at 2:46..? all the phrase please :)

  • the M5 is not faster because it is electronically limited, it could reach 200 mph

  • Am i the only one who thinks that this is an opel? wtf with the vauxhall? never heard about it

  • To be fair any front wheel car with lots of power will understeer if you floor it mid corner, and with that vectra there is hell of a lot of power through the front wheels. As usual clarkson is driving like a twat because the car is affordable and its not some million pound exotica. Top gear has gone shite over the last few years its so predictable clarkson thinks hes young and with it, may makes out he is eccentric and hammond runs into the back of may pretending he has no breaks. Hilarious....

  • whats the song played at the very beggining?

  • Its Manfred Mann - Blinded by the Light !

  • @drewerz01 thank you so much :D

  • do chavs need a car as powerful as a vectra VXR?

  • what is the song at 1:47??

  • It is the theme from the 1987 film Robocop, composed by Basil Poledouris!

  • Thank you!:D

  • what does he say at 3:22 ??

  • He says, THAT'S APPALLING!

  • oh ok thank you, i've watched it like 10 times and never understood that part.

  • "I'd go to San Francisco to avoid, let say something like, dinner with BILL ODDIE" HAHAHAHAHAHAHA that is how much he hates Vauxhall and Bill Oddie.... too funny.

  • You have to wonder what Ford holds over the likes of Top Gear. The ST220 is a very average family saloon and if I was offered any of these as a company car I would go nearly as far as Jeremy to avoid the Ford. The interior is low rent and it's a less entertaining drive than the other two. And as it has already been said Clarkson was driving the Vectra like a twat to make it look bad. If he had done the same in the Ford it would understerer. I enjoy Top Gear but why this sort of bullshit?!

  • The interior in EVERY vauxhall is appaling. What are you going on about the ford for? Build quality in fords have always been better than vauxhalls.

  • The build quality of Fords have never better then Vauxhall. I don't know anyone in the trade that thinks any different. You clearly haven't sat in a modern Vauxhall, the interior of the Corsa is better than the Mini, the interior of the Insignia is in a different league to the Mundane, er sorry Mondeo. And this isn't just my opinion. The Astra is superior to the Focus etc etc The Fords are simply not screwed together as well as the Vauxhalls. The materials in the Fords are not good enough.

  • I will never waste my own money on a Ford. I bought my last Ford a few years ago and like every Ford I owned before that except one, it let me down and with only 57k on the clock.

  • sorry your wrong again. IM in the trade myself,i know what im talking about. Vauxhalls are cheap and tacky, always have been. My brother in law has a brand new Focus RS,the best vauxhall can do in that size car is a astra VXRr,no contest which is better, the Focus!

  • @scoobycraig if u look at the focus st, the build quality on the bumpers are appualing, the way the skirts overlap and show where the build fits together is horrible. i used to love the focus until i seen this, and all i can think of now is "what has been seen, cannot be unseen" not sure if u can see the fittings on the rs tho.

  • @SuccessionLockon Mate, you would have loved my quality video on a 2010 Ford Focus, the video is gone now but you would have loved it. I was walking around a Zetec with a camera, it was appauling. The indicator door mirrors are a thin flexy plastic & not fixed to the doors properly, the bonnet squeaks & rattles around even when its closed, the window seals drop off, the roof antenna mounts rattle loose. Its not just the bumpers its all of it. Shame my videos gone never mind

  • @1ns4ne1d10t And I seen your vid, it was funny.

  • @hamster639 Lol, I remember the Focus too, it was MA10 WUB. I have a picture of it. Those door mirrors were lifting right up like aeroplane wings but the rattly bonnet was the worst, I was only pressing the palm of my hand on the bonnet & the whole thing was juddering up & down like it wasn't closed properly! Jeremy keeps quiet about all that...

  • It's a very staged test this one. Clarkson clearly was driving like an idiot to make the Vectra look bad, a car that he always hated it.

  • @JELH and turned the traction control off as well by the looks of it..

  • @Trig0r Yes but he does that with all other cars as well.

  • @JELH i know what he talks about. If you drive it on a stright line it is pretty damn quick. But it has this "chavish" setting of the gas pedal. It has a drive-by-wire system. And after you disable the esp it gives full throttle for fraction of a second every time you press the pedal. It suppose to make it feel faster or just more powerfull than it realy is. But the downside is that it loses grip everytime you press a bit harder on the throttle (UNDERSTEAR).

  • @klramon Well first of all, when you lose grip when you press the throttle is not understeer, its tourque steer. Secondly to disable the VXRs esp fully you have to pull out the fuse for it, whi disables the electronic suspension altogeather. You my friend, dont know shit

  • @Aliasify No you my friend don´t know shit. Pull out the fuse... Well that´s cool... Never heard about such a nice invention called button? on the middle console? No the suspension works independently from esp. Have you actually driven a car yet? I mean understear is when you go on the stright line while turning as the front wheels lose grip. Tourque steer my friend is when the tourque of the engine effects the stearing.

  • @klramon Well first off all, NO car sold by any manufacturer can have any form of traction control turned off fully by merley pressing a button. hence, the only way to disable it fully is to remove the fuse, and as the electronic suspension the VXR uses the same fuse it turns that off as well. You are correct in your explanation of understear. However your exact words where "But the downside is that it loses grip everytime you press a bit harder on the throttle (UNDERSTEAR)"thats tourque steer.

  • @Aliasify No you can disable it just with a press of a button. In BMW you just press a button and then it is off. I mean really off. It is there but it does not interfere. In Audi you can disable it as well and in Porsche and in Honda and in Subaru... In Vauxhall you can disable it as well. And then you get this problem with egas. No it is not tourque stear... it is tourque and understear at the same time. :)

  • @JELH I bet my balls he turned something off... ECTS or the TC system... therefore you can do that with a Mercedes if you want.

  • @JELH omg come on.... it doesn't matter, how he likes or dislikes it... car with that understeer should be really called dangerous

  • @Kokosiak1 who drives like he does on the public road? They don't understeer on the road, they are actually quite good.

  • @JELH No it isn't. When you see the Stig take it out on the track, the handling is diabolical. At some points it left the track altogether.

  • OK so how often does anyone drive around an old airfield? You would have to be a shit driver to loose any modern car unless you drive like a prat. Clarkson has it in for vauxhall. Even when it beats the competition as this vid proves.

  • nooooo :D in europ is it opel but in england is it vauxhaull

  • and in america is chevrolet :)

  • in england is the name vauwhaull not opel

  • i wish they had made it RWD or even 4WD, even though i love the vectra, all through the range. I love this one so much i went a bought one the other week. I really do like Clarkson, but i have to disagree with him on this one :/

  • I wish that vauxhall had made this car RWD or 4WD but still what a car, i like it so much i bought one the other week! Great second hand buy.

  • he's not flooring it, it is really that bad...

  • why is Clarkson flooring a FWD car into a corner, any car thats FWD would do that if you put too much power into the front wheels, he's making the car do that, Vectra might be shit, but he's making it seem worse than it is by being a bad driver, he always puts too much power down , on every test, i know its for entertainment but its like being told about cars by a noob. Anyway Corrado VR6 is the greatest FWD car ever, followed by the 1998 1.8 Integra Type R

  • I love the vectra VXR!!!

  • Jeremy clarkson does'nt like vaxhall because they will not give him a deal so he says all vaxhalls are bad i have been in one and we had it up to 163mph and we had to brake :/

  • Ive had one...great in a stright line .....drivers aids or not the chassis is just rubbish ..dosnt matter how good a driver you are if it bends it aint going round any corners ...fact.......rs focus all the way........160 mph and feel the car come alive round the corners....truly amazing....errr see all the awards for it......done.

  • well can i just say my partner has a vectra vxr and i must say i love the car 180 mph on the clock and it does do tht, so i think the vectra vxr is well under estimated, we done a test drive in a subaru and it was shite, espesh if you are youst to 500 and odd bhp thts what his vectra has got :D so people stop under estimating the car the only way u think the car is shite is if your a shite driver and dnt know how to handle the car haha......

  • 4:00 Powerrrrrrrr!!!!!!!!! very funny face...

  • In real life I think this car is good. ;)

  • Perhaps not very objective. He already starts out hating the car! Anyway, Clarkson is more about entertainment than information

  • couldn't agree more

  • why wasnt it made like the opel omega, give that car rwd

  • I saw a Open vectra taking a 90 degree bend om wet at about 30 km/h and oversteering wide: rubbish car!

  • A Mitsubishi Evo is faster than that and has 4 doors. (:

  • It's not.

  • Ουστ, μλκ.

  • this is a great vid. but it's important to remember that if you hold your foot flat while cornering in any front-drive car, it will understeer. just like a rear wheel drive car will oversteer. holding your foot flat and saying it doesn't steer is like putting your foot flat in a rear-drive car and saying 'oh dear, i need to correct this'. not debating whether Vectra is good or not, but just some food for thought.

  • let clarkson drive a Corsa B with 450 hp C20LET, he will shit his pants.

  • You fanboys just won't give up will you?

I've driven a Toyota Prius that handles better than that. I've driven Ford Rangers that handle better than that. I've driven the biggest Mercedes Sprinter 3500 van that handles better than that, for Christ's sake.

And yet you still call Jeremy an idiot because he knew better than you to buy such a shitbox.

  • way better than any mondeo

  • LOL!!!!! did you watch this review?! The mondeo is one the finest super saloons to drive that money can buy, it's compared with 3 series Bimmers! the VXR is compared with asda shopping trolleys and still usually loses on the handling test. lol better than a mondeo, go test drive a mondeo ST and say that.
