  • @jamianpal

while i love Bostridge i have to agree with you. The vid doesn't do the singer nor the composer justice. The song says "sky".. we see the sky, it says "field" we see a field.. *amused* . and the lip synch doesn't quite work. The timing is fine, but it feels unreal.. . .. reverb in a field ? ;p This said, i just change window and listen to the music :)

  • does anyone know what key signature this is in because i have to sing this and i think this key would work best

  • @forrestnolan It's in F major. Thank goodness for perfect pitch. ;)

  • Lovely strong but subtle voice and interpretation - love the video and your performance both vocally and visually. Helps to bring people in to the music and the concept without having to struggle (I'm operatically-trained and have had to try to find ways to help people who aren't into opera to understand and enjoy it). Very pleasant experience listening to, and watching, you in this. Kudos to the singer, the accompanist, and the filmmaker!

  • I do believe this is the BEST vocal artistry/interpretation I've every heard for this song, EVER!

  • @operaemi

I'd like to know what you think of Anthony Rolfe Johnson doing this. It's on YouTube.

  • Bloody hell, you can't have listened to many versions! In my opinion this is too precious, lacking any fullness in voice. The dynamics are too held. It's as if he has been told that this song is some sweet ditty when really it is full of strong contrasts that are not realised in this rendition. Listen to Tom Allen, Quirk, Luxen and many others before this dull period of singing that we have to put up with today.

  • his voice is just.... PERFECT.

    Suits this song so well!

  • This is so so so beautiful. Ian's voice is perfection for this song. Either makes me cry or puts me to sleep happy :)

  • omw. i think i've found a new lullaby. best song i've heard in ages. officially in love. :)

  • Magnificent performance. Drake is a superb partner.

  • I've seen a few of these art song and aria music videos. Angela Gheorghiu has done a few. I like the idea. Maybe they should have a Classical Much Music that plays all these videos and interviews singers and 21st century composers. Someday...

  • @psychicbyinternet I agree! I hate when they try to make classical music "clever", and focus too much on looks, but videos such as these are really beautiful, and I think appeal to a wide audience! I hope to have a career in opera and classical music, and I will definitely be an advocate for this type of medium.

  • @saxamaphoneguy1 I agree. I'm a music major and hoping for some kind of music career as well.

  • This lovely interpretation by Ian Bostridge of Silent Noon is as good as the John Shirley Quirke version on songs of travel.I don`t think I can praise Ian any more than this. I would think also that there have not been many Englist tenors as good as Ian Bostridge!!!. At least I hope he is English.

  • Fine production,(altho i prefer my own imagination!),and sensitive version. Just a thought: imagine this song without: Harmony Tempo Rythm Texture Color Introduction Postlude.... Just a naked vocal line... That essential make-or-break participant, the PIANIST, should ALWAYS be credited!
  • one word. superlative.

  • Absolutely gorgeous! And who is the wonderful pianist?

  • @Yale75 I believe it was Julius Drake playing piano on The English Songbook. :-)

  • this is amazing =)))). Now i can follow along with a wonderful recording! Simply wonderful Ian!

  • just perfect thank you xx

  • This entire album is so fantastic. I particularly love his interpretation of Delius' "Twilight Fancies". I wish that was on youtube. =(

  • this video has helped me memorize this song so much, i'm singing it for a final tomorrow and think I finally got it worked out

  • utterly delightful.....Ian, you should sing RVW more often

  • Botridge singing Vaughan Williams is magical.

  • so beautiful, I love it so much.

  • absolutely gorgeous. i had to close my eyes.

so relaxing after a rough day.

    {inhales}

    aaaaaaaaah.

  • Expressive and absolutely angelic.

  • Exquisite.

  • This is an absolutely beautiful video, exellent voice, best version of this song I've had the pleasure of hearing thus far :)
