  • 4:57 What the hell did they do to his head? It looks like a mutated cucumber

  • 1:22 King Kong: Eat your vegies!

  • "I think that was the time when the people at Toho were dropping LSD. That movie is INSANE."

    - John Carpenter (The Thing, In the Mouth of Madness, Big Trouble In Little China) on Destroy All Monsters

    ...sounds about right.

  • i should be studying for my motor oil certificate test not godzilla and flying turtles -_- youtube you are made of many wunders arent you

  • King Kong's nowhere as big as (the original) Godzilla, by the way.

  • manda look like reptiliucs

  • 'Godzilla's brain's the size of a nut'... Yep, he clearly didn't know how to laugh his ass off in Invasion of the Astro Monster, fly in Vs Hedorah, and do a tail slide in Vs Megalon

  • In later godzilla movies including the heisei series, godzilla is depicted as a thinking animal.I hated the americanization of these movies,no offense intended.

  • The original "King Kong vs Godzilla" needs to be released on DVD.

  • @godzilla964 I've got it. Transferred from a very good VHS copy. Japanese version with no subtitles.

  • @godzilla964 Torrent it. It's out there and I've got it and it's great quality.

Thing is, the deal is Toho has distribution rights in Japan, Universal has distribution right in the U.S. It's up to Universal to make an original version available on DVD and... well, that's not happening. So, you're going to have to torrent or grey market it.

  • Okay cut to the chase and make Godzilla vs. Gamera already

  • Ghidrah the Three Headed Monster plays more like a spy movie then a Godzilla movie, they focused too much on the possessed princess and not enough on the monsters

  • Godzilla beat Kong to death. Period.

  • why do they never say anything about Mosura contra Gojira (aka: Mothra vs Godzilla) they did for a second, but that was one of the top 5 or 3 movies

  • Awesome. Great documentary so far. Time for Part 4.

  • Who the hell knows that much about Godzilla? My feeling is that his brain grew 7 sizes bigger in every episode much like the grinch whose heart by the way was the size of a marble to begin with.

  • 3 people have brains about the size of a marble.

  • I think the guy who said Godzilla's brain was that small lost his "marbles".

  • I love John Carpenter's views and comments on these movies. Matches much of my own opinion.

  • first it was soppuse to be frankenstien vs godzilla

  • The Steve Ryfle and Ed Godziszewski's dvd commentaries on the Godzilla films awesome! They are so informative. For years I wanted to know how these films were made and the people behind them but I couldn't find info anywhere. Sci fi magazines usually had very little or nothing good to say about this genre. Now all that has changed. All you could ever want to know is available on the Classic Media dvd's. I just let the commentaries run over and over. Thanks guys for taking the big G seriously.

  • I think the Hesiei Godzilla is the "Miss. Godzilla", cause of her GIGANTIC size, Thumbs up if you agree!

  • I think the hilarious part was from 5:59 - 6:08 was the way George Takei was having fun acting the screaming people from the English dubbed Godzilla movies. The sounds and his facial expression never fails to crack me up...

  • I wanted godzilla to win king kong >:(

  • i think its funny that this program was rated TV-G and yet John Carpenter refers to LSD

  • Godzilla's brain is the size of a marble? That's like if a lizard's brain was the size of a speck of dust...

  • i have king kong vs godzilla in japanese with english subs.

  • It sucks that the US version of King Kong vs Godzilla insulted Godzilla saying that he has a brain THE SIZE OF A NUT and they replaced Akira Ifakube's music in that movie with FUCKING LAME US MOVIE MUSIC!Sorry for caps but I had to show how I felt of those changes.Although that movie was still good.

  • there r not 2 endings,that was just a roumor

  • lol, so Gamera's like Michael Jackson?

  • kong looks more stupid than godzilla.

  • king kong looks so bad his face looks like ass

  • Godzilla is the King of the Monster,King Kong is the of the jungle which is GAY, So Godzilla is best hands down.

  • I don't mind the superhero Godzilla. He had a lot of personality in that time period.

  • @mechatyler I never thought Godzilla was evil. Even the orginal one. He's misunderstood.

  • 2:20 Oh please that was an American advertising ploy! Fuckin' idiots. Mosura was popular in Japan.

  • iv got king kong vs godzilla i dont get the ending

  • The american version had that "godzilla's brain is the size of a nut" bullshit. Don't blame toho for that.

  • I downloaded the Japanese version from bittorent.

  • @fstop77 While I do disagree that Godzilla's brain was THAT big, I don't think he was as much of a thinker like King Kong. Throughout all of his films, Godzilla seems to be operating on instinct alone. Don't take this comment wrong, G-fans. I'm not trying to bash the big guy!

  • Reptilicus was in a godzilla movie?

  • That was Manda from Atragon I believe. He was actually an Asian style dragon with the horns, but by Destroy All Monsters his puppet was slightly in disrepair. Toho basically found as many of their monsters as they could that weren't too decrepit looking and threw them in the movie.

  • Oh oks thanks for the info.

  • No problem. You can also see an updated Manda in Godzilla: Final Wars too.

  • Oks thanks.

  • i cant belive it,they say that godzilla's brain is small as a PEANUT!!!???>:0 they r totally pushing godzillas spotlight

  • Damn!

    Such a Long History

I wonder how it was like when teh Movies were Coming out

  • why did they say his brain is small? its huge!!!

  • i hated how the American version of King Kong vs. Godzilla insulted Godzilla by saying he has a brain the size of a nut >:O

Go fuck yourself the people who altered the movie

  • I AGREE!!!

  • Back when they said that, there wernt traits given to godzilla. Godzilla was big and mean. Konghad a soft sopt for a girl. Back the, even in Japan, Kong was more popular......but if you think about it, an animal 300-400 feet tall couldnt function with a brain the size of a nut.......I dont know why that was put in the script.

  • @MultiReK yah really he has two huge brains! one in his tail and one in his head

  • even as a kid i wonder how japan rebuilt it self so fast between scenes , like there was no movie where he comes and half the city is destroyed

  • yea u have a pount

  • ugh i hate gamera but godzilla rocks

  • It's GHIDORAH! NOT GHIDRAH!

  • You do realize the spelling depends on the persons preferance of which way they wish to spell it. Personaly I prefer the Romaji spelling GIDORA!!

  • Ghidorah :)

  • Heh the way i do it is actualy far closer the the real spelling any how!! The Japanese spelling anyway! Besides as Isaid before it all depends on ones preferance!!

  • I absolutely agree. And Ghidorah sounds more like is spoken in japanese. Plus all the translations spell it that way..

  • And it just plane sounds cooler!! However for the Big-G I deffinetly prefer using GOJIRA then Godzilla!! I mean it's the REAL translation, people won't think yer talkign about that tristar...thing, and well it sounds more trrorfiying than Godzilla anyway!

  • I'm all for that, however I feel that when the original name is spoken in english it sound foolish. "GoJeeRa" sounds odd in english.

In japanese is a much more fluid and faster "Gojida" sound.

I'll stick with Godzilla, and in case anyone gets confused, which they normally don't. I'll tell them what I mean.

And most people know that there were many Godzilla movies that came out before the American travesty.

  • They need to remark on Varan, Mogeura, Dogorah, Manda, Maguma, Matango, Baragon, and all the others...

  • wow i so disagree on king kong vs godzilla.

godzilla is over 400 feet tall.

king kong is 25 ft tall. LOL

  • FAIL!

Godzilla is only 162 feet tall!

  • Well originaly yeas but in the 90s and in GFW he's around 300ish!

  • In the 90's he was 328 feet, and in the newest series he went back to 50 meters. But yes, in Final wars we went back up to 100 meters (328 feet)

  • Actualy in about 4 of the millenium films Godzilla is 55 meters. You were close though!!

  • Yes, your right. In some he was 55 meters. But apparently they wanted to make him 100 meters again for final wars.

  • godzilla 500ft tall

  • 164 ;)

    (50 meters)

  • Actually Godzilla was 164 feet tall in the Original series (50 meters).

The 400 foot height mentioned in Godzilla King of the Monsters was a mistake. A product of American dubbing.

Godzilla was 260 feet (80 meters) in Godzilla 84/85

He only reached 328 feet (100 meters) in the 1991 movie, Godzilla vs King Ghidorah.

In the newest Godzilla series had him back at 164 feet, or 50 meters.

  • And yea, your right Kong was Originally 25 feet, although the scaling in the original movie brought him all the way up to 50 feet, then back down to 25.

The 1976 kong was 50 feet.

But I guess for obvious reasons, they needed to enlarge Kong, to fight Godzilla.

  • And if I'm not mistaken he's about 24-25 feet tall in the Peter Jackson remake!! But yeah that movie really doesn't need a remake! The original Godzilla film however does. And hopefully soon!!

  • Thats what his original size was meant to be. But in the first king kong movie they increased and decreased his size for whatever setting required it.

  • I don't think they'll be remaking Godzilla, any time soon in the US. They already tried, and completely failed.

They made "Giant iguana thing" instead. A pretty decent American monster movie in it's own right. But it should not have been called Godzilla, its a HORRIBLE Godzilla movie.

  • Did you see anything in that post me wantign the USA to remake the origsnal film?? I just said that in the peter jackson King Kong remake Kong was about 24 feet tall. Other wise I never mentioned I wanted an american studio to remake the original Godzilla film!!

  • Did you want japan to remake it? Because you did mention that you wanted to see a "Gojira" remake. Personally I dont think it would work.

The original feels the way it does because of the directing Black and white, and the feelings about nuclear weapons by the Japanese at the time.

The original will never be outdone.

  • Yes i do mean the original GOJIRA! ANd well obviously it won't be out done. But if Toho put enough heart and soul into it. I'm sure they could make a damned good remake of the first film. Besides that movie's message(s) are still being ignored today! So if it's remade with enough effort, time and care. I'm sure it could bring the Big-G back to his former glory!!

  • Interesting. I'd never heard that before. Thanks for posting this new and never-disproven information.

  • Actually he's mistaken.

Yes Kong wins in the US version.

But in the Japanese version it ends the same, but right after we hear Kong's roar, we hear Godzilla's.

Also there is no "United world news" in the Japanese version. So no American commentaries telling us who won....

    Niether Monster won.

  • @ryfleman Actuly It was just a myth, Someone proved it from a JAP version's video tape. The rumor was based on common misconsecption.

  • @ryfleman actually i read up and thats not true

  • @ryfleman That's actually pure myth. I heard this from a Godzilla expert who gave a speech about the big guy and his anti-nuclear message at SMU recently.

  • @ryfleman lies, Kong wins in both versions

  • not true

  • Half not true, in the American version. King Kong wins.

In the Japanese version neither win. At the end of the movie, Kong is seen swimming away. We hear his roar, followed by Godzilla's roar.

  • No this is no longer true, King Kong came out victorious in both version.

  • Lol, wrong. I have both versions.

In the Japanese version. King Kong is seen swimming away because he must go to the surface to breath, not the case with Godzilla.

And at the end, You hear King Kongs roar, then Godzilla's. No winner there...

  • I know, when seeing King Kong swimming away and godzilla not attacking him equal King Kong's Victory. Godzilla going underwater and not surfacing Kong mean he's defeated and couldn't fight anymore. So by my definition, that's King Kong's victory.

  • Nope. Because why isn't Kong continuing to attack either??

Its called parting way's amicably. They both decided to end the fight. Godzilla swam away too. But since he can breathe underwater. He didn't have to surface..

He did nothing different than Kong did. Period.

The point was to show that there was NO clear winner. They both just... stopped.

  • I think you have a point there. Yeah, it's a draw. I guess they didn't want to have a popularity contest for that one.

  • Until it reached America, where they had to make sure Kong won... Inferiority complexes :(.

  • @megalon73 no that is not true i have read on wikipedia and it said that the ending is the same for both versions so king kong won

  • @megalon73 Lies

  • @megalon73 Sorry but thats not true, its just a rumor, check out

    AVGN's Godzillathon #3.

  • @megalon73

That's actually an urban legend, in reality there's only one ending, Kong 'winning', the only difference is the presence of Godzilla's roar at the end of the Japanese version. Sorry to disappoint :(

  • @megalon73 That's interesting, I always assumed they made King Kong win at the end as part of an agreement to use the rights of King Kong for the movie, but that makes sense that they would make two different endings. I know when I saw that movie as a very young child I wanted Godzilla to kick King Kong's ass so bad...and I still do today!

  • @megalon73 That's actually a myth. The ending is the same in both versions. The only difference is in the American version, Kong's roar is heard just before the end card. Actually there are a NUMBER of differences in the two versions, but as far as the ending is concerned that's the only difference.

  • @megalon73 That's actually a myth. The ending is the same in both versions. The only difference is in the American version, Kong's roar is heard just before the end card. Actually there are a NUMBER of differences in the two versions, but as far as the ending is concerned that's the only difference. At the time, Kong was much bigger even in Japan than Godzilla...Godzilla hadn't yet become a legend. But Kong was.

  • @megalon73 I have the japanese version (from bittorent) and the endings are exactly the same except when the "The end" title card is shown both monsters' roars are heard.

  • @megalon73 No both films have the same ending just that in the Japanese version when King Kong swims back to his island in the final scene, you can hear both King Kong and Godzilla's roars in the background.

  • @megalon73 Thats actually false and just a popular rumor. In the Japanese version Kong still winds considering that Kong was actually more popular than Godzilla at the time.

  • @megalon73 That is false!

  • that is not true at all @megalon73

  • @megalon73

    No. This information is wrong.

  • It's Ghidorah,you Nutheads

  • EXACTLY its ghi-DOR-ah!!!!

  • Im suprised they didnt mention anything about Rodan in Ghidrah The Three Headed Monster. This was his 2nd apperance in a film but first associated with Godzilla.

  • King Kong suck i min the kong suit.

  • they said ghidorah wrong stupid people

  • Actually, in the first movie, it WAS Ghidrah. In later movies it was changed to Ghidorah.

  • The Japanese pronunciation is Ghidorah. Even in the original movie.

The American Dubbing called him Ghidrah.

    He's always been King Ghidorah.

  • "By now Tojo wasn't the only Japanese movie studio to use giant monsters to GRAB younger audiences." ROFL WTF 7:07-7:15

  • minya looks like a turtle mix with a baby

  • Me too.

  • I'm sorry to any Son of Godzilla fans but I really hate Minya, to me that is the most ugly, dumb and corny Godzilla character made.

  • sadly i agree

  • well he was made for children so he appealies mstly to children not adults (no offense)

  • I know, I don't mind if they make a character for kids just as long as they make him likable when you age.

I think what I really don't like is what Minya looks like.

Like Godzilla jr. He was awesome, sure he looked weird at first but he looked like a Godzilla, even with the big anime eyes.

Minya looks like pug on two legs with no hair.

  • why does godzilla sound like an elephant.

  • Strange, because it was an original audio. Not made from any existing animals.

It was made by rubbing a coarse leather glove over a contra-bass.

Then the speed was changed to come up with different tones...

  • Whos Gamera's enemy from the behind the scenes footage?

  • That's Gappa from NIkkatsu's GAPPA THE TRIPHIBIAN MONSTER (1967).

  • Oh, thanx! you'd think i'd know that, considering I own that movie!

  • You're welcome! :)

  • BTW, was that movie's alternate title "Monster From A Prehistoric Planet" ?

  • That's correct. That was the title for American TV when the film was distributed by American International Pictures Television. It was also released to VHS and Laserdisc, subsequently, by Orion Pictures (now defunct). The uncut and widescreen GAPPA, IIRC, is still available from Media Blasters. MONSTER FROM A PREHISTORIC PLANET is out on DVD from Alpha and Retromedia.

  • Thanx pal! You've been very helpful :)

  • See that US Scientist in the Trailer? He shows us how big his brain is, not Godzilla's.

  • Godzilla isn't really "green". He looks dark gray to me.

  • That's was so cool to see Godzilla with the kids in the subway train! It's at 1:56.

  • At 06:53 there's a refer to Osamu Tezuka!

  • Kong vs. Godzilla was a fun movie, but they had to up the size of Kong to make sure GZ wouldn't just step on him

  • Obviously. Realistically big G would own him in like 1 minute.

  • 12 seconds by my count, he just had to spit and Kong would be incinerated

  • Nah, stomping on him would be more fun.

  • true that

  • Godzilla vs Gamera would be an awesome movie

  • Yeah. I would like to see that. Godzilla would win.

  • mainly cause Godzilla is about 200 feet taller and 10 000 tons heavier

  • Add Godzilla doesn't seem to have his arm almost severed in every film.

  • lol yea

  • Gamera still has a fighting chance since he's more nimbler & quicker than Godzilla. Plus, Gamera can fly.

  • so could ghidorh, if i spelled that right and mothara and many others and they were owned by zilla, but yes, i have all the gammara movies and he is awesome

  • mothra is one of the best

  • the gamera's roar this in findsounds?

  • thing about King Kong is he only come sup to Godzilla's Knee.

  • daiei studios

  • gamera in produce by what studios?

  • I think Gamera is cool. He's not as cool as Godzilla, but he's still cool.

  • godzilla versus Paul bunnyan what a great ideea....NOT !!!!

  • this whole thing is AWESOME!

(i know Kong looks terrible but i love the way he loloks in k.k. vs. G

  • For some of us that are over 35, did you notice the helicoptor pilot? Wasn't that George Kennedy?

  • Awsome video screw Gamera ! gamera sucks did u see waht it looked like in the vid!

  • Godzilla vs. Paul Bunyan would of kicked ass!

  • Finally, they have it on Youtube. I loved that episode. Too bad they don;t play it anymore.
