In my DVD theres an alternative finale, wich is very cool also.

Instead of simply going home in the end, the good cop is stopped at his front door by the 3 wise men who ask him about the money the got from Alonzo.

He says he gave it to the police, and tell them to leave him alone.

Then he walks inside and you can see the bag of money in his room, showing that he learned something from Alonzo and kept the money.

Yes, Smiley was contracted by Alonzo to kill Jake. You can see a small hint to this when they are still at Rogers house. Alonzo is on the phone in his car and he motions for Jake to get into the car to talk to him. He says. Before Jake gets in, Alonzo says on the phone to (smiley, unknown to the viewer) "Yeah, you just make sure that bathtub is cleaned" knowing that Smiley will shoot Jake in the bathtub to lessen the mess. So Alonzo was indeed "A Lowdown, dirty, Ruthless Vato"

You know.....This is one of the rarest times I've seen a a Film scene, and it really kept my heart racing and beating all throughout. As the dialogue goes by, you instantly start feeling the tension and anxiety going around, especially from Ethan Hawke's character. You feel yourself in his body, shoes and perspective. Once again, that's really rare with Today's Cinema nowadays. I was feeling very scared for him. Like Woah Man, get out of there, get out.
