  • did u try hand feeding them? i have some but im afraid they would bite

  • @johan753 on my old aro yes. i used tweezers to be careful when feeding my gar. they instinctively come near me when they see me. must've associated me with food

  • is that gar safe from the mouth of the ornate bichir? I also see a small bichir near that orane. yikes!

  • @oneyedthing yes he is. this was a vid around 1 year and a half ago, and the gar has significantly grown since then. Check out my latest vids and see for yourself. smaller birchirs are safe too as everyone's being fed properly

  • THATS NOT AN ORNATE BICHIR,THATS A MONSTER!

  • @eatapotato0056 thanks for the kind words, i've had him for 5 1/2 years now.

  • hmmm i fed my rtc lotsa feeders basically its not an rtc anymore more of a brown tail...but never tried superworms.i even tried to give my kuhli's tubifex but no deal

  • have you tried giving them live feed? hmmm feeder fish or super worms

  • hmmmm .... my kuhlies=yes my rtc=no... My rtc doesnt like live food or frozen.and my kuhli never ate a single thing..I asked the shop of what it eats and they said sinking pellets. i gave em what they said.and they didn't eat a single pellet..

  • errrrrr basically they both wont eat and im worried they both would starve to death or get ill.

  • @RPGL07 forgot to ask, did you change their food?

  • Hmm my kuhli's tank gets lots of new fish and 4 small driftwoods for their hiding spots...my RTC's diet stopped after he didnt stop eating the feeders then stopped when he digested it...basically my 2 new loaches and my rtc wont eat...

  • hmm did you recently change water? add tank mates? do any major changes to your tank? usually your fish react to stress by going on a diet.

  • uh its pretty good but then My RTC wont eat live food no more and my new Kuhli loaches wont eat a thing i give em... but then my ornate is now 6.5 inches..hmm any words of wisdom of my 2 troubled fish?

  • @RPGL07 dude did i ever ask where you're from? lol

  • @wyldkardacccsu its me ur old friend Subkarl08 ^_^

  • @RPGL07 hey man good to see you here again. how's the new fish?

  • hello dude im back sorry hehe i lost my other account.... so heres whats new

    i got a 75 gallon now

my ornati is doing fine and got new carnivores.

  • @RPGL07 who were you again? post your vids so i could see your fish as well

  • that is a gorgeous bichir

  • @Alastor683 thanks!

  • @wyldkardacccsu how old is the bichir in this video?

  • @Alastor683 he's 5 years old (atleast that's how long i've had him lol)

  • lol big boys a beast! what do u feed them to get them to grow like that and how many times a day?

  • @dallasstar84 thanks. i give them a wide variety of food from beef heart, chicken heart, chicken meat, pork, various insects, feeder fish etc. usually twice a day with just the same amounts of food per feeding. bichirs are scavengers, and like to stock in on food whenever they get a chance so just give them enough so they won't over eat.

  • ok cool it was the bichir i was concerned with, especially with those 2

  • @dallasstar84 just as long sa noone fits someone's mouth, they're safe. my smaller bichirs usually swim away when they get nipped by the oscars (turning 2 years this august at around 10-12"), but my larger bichir ( an 18" 5 year old ornate) doesn't seem to mind when he gets nipped.

  • how well does your oscar, gar and bichir get along

  • @dallasstar84 they go along just fine. the only time they do nip on each other is when they haven't been fed for a week and that rarely happens

  • Hey it's Me again. my ornate bichir is on a 20 gal. tank because he is still very small.A medium sized drift wood (loves hiding in it) 3 small plants and 2 tall plastic plants, aerator, filter.rockish gravel. any thing else i need?

  • @subkarl08 everything seems to be good. just make sure it doesn't ingest some of your gravel if it's too small, might clog up it's stomach.

  • Hmm this is karl's friend again.i feed him 4 and 3 inch feeder gold fish , i didnt quite understud ur reply on two gars can you rephrase it.

  • @subkarl08 wow those are big feeders! oh i meant i used to have 2 spotted gars but one died a few months back. from what i believe and read about, your fish will eat as long as they are hungry. they will stop once they're full. i've had an experience with my remaining gar just swimming with the feeders (about 1" or bigger river mollies and guppies) and not eating any of them when it was full.

  • dude this is karls friend he let me use his account cuz i have to ask you smthn how big is your spotted gar ? i have one, he eats 5 feeder goldfish a day, am i over feeding? and what fish can i mix it with cuz i get board watching an 8 inch predator wonder the empty 25 galon (temporary) can i mix a redtail catfish or ghost knife fish another gar maybe

  • @subkarl08 my spotted gar is around 13-15" right now. got him at about 8-10" a few months back. he's been eating like a pig ever since and has a very fat body. how big are your feeder fish exactly? the gar is living with 10 poly's, a jardini and 2 large oscars (all predatory fish) and i've been feeding them feeder fish by the dozens. i've also noticed that the gars (i used to have 2) eat up their fill and just park themselves near the bottom when they're stuffed

  • another note: you can also feed it with bits of meat, chicken or pork, mine loves them. I just watched the vid again and can't believe how small it was before. right now it's about the same size as the jar.

  • i have an ornate bichir for christmas but he does not eat. he is young i can see a bit of his external gills...what do i feed him?

  • @subkarl08

well chances are he's still getting used to his new environment which is your tank. you can feed him bits of meat, shrimp or superworms. be patient, eventually when he becomes hungry he'll take anything you give him. i got mine around 4 years ago and he didn't eat a lot too at first but now just gulps down house lizards in a second

  • right not it's around 18 1/2 "

  • HOW MANY INCHES? AND BUETIFUL
