  • Its alot simpler than the colour scheme-a circle around anything means something is up, as others know its there, and stealing in a busy area is never a good idea, lol. What is unclear is how many times this was attempted and worked, but derren has admitted that many tricks only work 3/4 of the time.Drawing the circle in a very busy area to make sure no one watched him adds further mystery to it, and keeps people away-but if truly left there all day.. someone would have picked it up-eventually!

  • My take on this: Black and yellow is a natural warning colour to tell the brain to keep away. People might assume one of those little square windows is broken so keep away. There is an optical illusion with a black and white grid where the eye sees grey spots at each intersection of lines crossing. Also there maay have been a big colourful, maybe even noisey distraction above the wallet, saying "look up" or s.th. This trick may have been tried several times before it was successful.

  • leave it in peckhem lots of people will steal it

  • @myst1v1 I wouldn't take it, because of the street cameras, the public eye, passers by etc...

  • Because there were cameras everywhere...

  • @iReece2k11 Hidden Cameras -_-

  • I tried this.

    Didn't fucking work.

    Fuck you Derren Brown.

  • I wouldn't pick it up either; it's like the show Bait Car - it's so obvious that you're going to get in trouble if you take it , because obviously someone meant to put it there.. :P

  • this is most likely becuase of peoples presption of the colour yellow

  • Probably cause it looks like some sort of crimescene

  • Well, I don't think it'll work in the part of the city where I live in ;-))

  • REGENT STREET.... affluent professionals....stealing surveyed wallets....likely.

  • Ok no more chains, I'm drawing a circle around my 3rd bike

  • circle shows that wallet isn't just lost, but placed. So seams it will be noticed if you will remove it. Anyway, it is a bit weird, why not to take it?

  • @gediminasII Ye, it indicates the owner knows where it is so he would know it's stolen and also doesn't need someone to return it to him. Most people don't steal wallets so not many people would be inclined to pick it up. Even if they did, it's on camera and on a busy highway so they're screwed.

  • It draws attention to itself by being in the circle. I wouldn't pick it up either. I would think, believe it or not, it's part of an art demonstration or something.

  • i recon no one picked it up because no one wants to be seen just picking someone elses wallet up which someone could of dropped but if it wasnt busy then i think some one would of picked it up ..... if any of that makes sense.

  • There is a street in Leeds centre called Briggate where someone glued a pound coin to the pavement. I first noticed it in 2005 and last year it was still there!

On the rare occasions I have found money on the street, you do a kind of doulbe-take because your eyes don't believe they've seen a £20 note flapping in the wind, but this experiment baffles me. The white circle must've been seen as a warning to people, after all, there is such a thing as 'theft by finding'.

  • I like how the fucking flashes black....

  • only people who look at the floor when they walk would be able to notice the wallet. What is interesting is that Those who look at where they step are subconsciously cautious because of a variety of reasons, but the main point being is that they are cautious. The white circle suggests to these people that the wallet is a trap and will avoid it.

  • it isnt just the cirlce. The WHITE box patterns behind the BLACK wallet makes it unnoticeable by anyone who is looking forward. This is because of the constant movement of people wearing either white or black combined with the white lines on the street. Constant information like that is ignored by the brain as trash, much like how people pass by a tree and 5 seconds later they dont remember where it was located unless they looked at it directly. So black and white objects are ignored.

  • Try that in South Africa, it will be gone in less than a second before your eyes.

  • Well that,s the TRICK! because he draw a circle around it... everyone thinks its a trap

Wouldn't you be doing the same ? if you find a wallet in the street with a orange circle around it would you pick it up ? No! Because there is a orange circle around it...

  • I bet this wouldnt work in Liverpool.

  • @peeshkepper shut up moron.

  • did they do a control without the circle??

  • It's because if they take it someone around them is gonna notice

  • you shouldve done it on eastside LA lol

  • I love the psychology in this! :)

  • people just think the wallet is accounted for and you wouldn't pick it up incase it is being monitored. If it had no circle, it looks lost and people will feel inclined to pick it up

  • @NorthWeezy2010 Thing is, nobody actually notices the wallet

  • @TheMrbluedevil they do, some people stop and look at it

  • I want to see someone pick up a wallet here if it doesn't have a circle around.

  • The circle guarantees that it's been left there conciously, people think it's part of something important and they don't want to ruin it. Or they're just nice.

  • @chailizard Or really mean for not handing it in to the police
