no, he got it right. he's listing the interval in half-steps. there are 12 halfsteps in a western scale before you reach an octave (double frequency). bitonic is only 2 instead of 12, meaning that there are the equivalent of 6 half-steps between notes.
ever try scala? i know more and more programs allow scala tuning files (looks like the newest version of melodyne does, but it doesn't support scales with more than 12 notes per octave yet)....
what if you used something that was equal temperament but not based on pure octaves....maybe instead dividing up the pure septimal minor seventh (7:4) equally into various amounts? hahaha that would be awesome.
Hmmm the uneven measures (halves and stuff) really stretched my brian there ... I thought I lost sync with the world for a moment (and I don't know if that is good or not). :)
Your ears have been tuned to the 12-tone European scale, that's all (as have mine). I remember after being in a Gagaku (Japanese court music) class, all the notes that seemed "out of tune" to my ears at first I got used to by the end of the semester....
Interesting. I've just recently been really getting into this whole music theory thing and was reading about equal temperament today. Nice to see it in use rather than just text.
I think you got bitonic and hexatonic backwards.. hexa is six. cool video though.

Optatonic! You may have just given me an idea for a song title. Or a band name.
(I'm assuming that's a typo? Because it's 'octatonic' = 8?)
