  • OMG mind f'ked

  • I'm here because of damnlol :]

  • thats pretty cool..... WHERE CAN I GET ONE!!!!!!!

  • oh wow, this is kinda cool, but made my skin epic crawl lol

  • slipping the cardboard thing onto a cup is sooo hard and all. retards

  • @dmh24 I see you can't read a simple video description. Sounds like you are the retard here.

  • That makes my skin crawl and my stomach feel weird for some reason...

  • The Dead Weather - Hang You From The Heavens

  • @czornex for teh win

  • Is this some sort of solvent like phthalate and pvc foil?

    FAKE !!!

  • It's neat and all but what is the practical application of this?

  • i... i wanna touch it

  • looks like a blue waffle

  • that's a whole reason to start drinking coffee

  • thats fucken nasty and shit

  • that's fucking cool.

How the hell is that creepy?

  • That needs definite fine tuning... it looks gross! but can be a cool idea i guess...

  • They do seem a bit too thin.

  • Can.. Can I eat the cup too...?

  • I'll take 50.

  • "saves on material" how much air pollution are we getting from making that chemical band?

  • i saw this on gifsoup

  • Makes my skin crawl, cool idea, but no thanks.

  • creepy as hell...

  • Does it only work if you fill the cup with hot pee?

  • Why is the colored area of the Starbucks logo more puffy? Does it conduct heat better somehow? I guess I can avoid burns by not touching the green bits of the Scarbutts cup.

  • it's fucking mutating!!! HOLY SHIT!

  • this looks fowl

  • what is the song's name?

  • starbucks lol

  • there really is no point to this. people will just waste the material out of convenience, so might as let keep wasting what is already being used.

  • What happens after a heated sample is cooled?

Does it stay in the expanded form, or collapse?

  • @AntiAntagonist I wondered that as well. I also wonder why it shows designs (ink has a different specific heat?), crimps at the sides of the cup (more paper inhibits heat flow, or perhaps just compressed?), and why the expansion is so uneven. I would have loved a bit more information, but I suspect they want to protect their patent. I do hope they fix the uneven expansion before putting them in use--that could get very uncomfortable to hold if you're unlucky in how the cup swells.

  • Now coffee cups can get cancer.

    What has science done!?

  • I will take a burnt hand over a cancerous blue blob any day.

  • Ewww. Just use a thicker cardboard sleeve.

  • @CannonKnight how about using a thermal cup or just not holding a drink that's 170 degrees fahrenheit or more? sounds smarter to me.

  • What's wrong with a napkin wrapped round?

  • Yeah, I think it might be a good idea, if it's biodegradable or easily handled by waste processing methods (recycling plants, incineration.)

  • WHAT THE FUCK.

  • im just wondering whats that green stuff . looks delicious

  • @ligyro I'm guessing green tea.

  • Yes, yes, very cool, but what song is that in the background?

  • Christ, it looks like a venereal disease.

  • AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAWSOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOME!

  • I don't think I'd be able to drink out of a cup that does that though. Would really gross me out.

  • So is that think eco friendly? biodegradable?

  • @angelmassb yes and yes

  • Thats awesome. Expansion is a natural heat sink.

  • I've never heard of the paper rings before! From where I'm from cardboard coffee cups usually just have a fold-able ear to hold on. Anyway, this looks like an interesting invention.

  • That wasn't at all "instant"

  • @simoniz By the time Dead-End Job Starbucks Employee No. 2 hands you your $6 beverage after steaming the milk and adding the cinnamon and whipped cream, it'll be ready.

  • @tantou Starbucks isn't a dead-end job, they're actually a really good employer. Who else gives benefits to part-time employees? There are far worse jobs out there. I won't disagree that their beverages are a wee bit overpriced though.

  • creepy

  • cool

  • @samron66 does it shrink back when cooled down?

  • شيئ جميل

  • Interesting idea, but for now at least, I think the Intumescent paint is better suited for fireproofing.

  • I think it's a great idea. I hate sliding on those loose paper rings on a hot cup. The bumpy image is scary, but I hope that can be controlled into a cleaner graphic in the near future, no?

  • That's disturbing

  • but is it recyclable?

  • cheap. what's the point of this, nigga?

  • @erives174 then give it a thumbs up....

  • WOW !!

  • Nice thought to include the bloopers, too.

  • whats going on below the heatsleave thing? it looks like the cup is about to give into the heated water... something tells me if the cup was thicker, it wouldn't work.

  • I'm with @TehW00terMan. Something is not right here. What was that hot liquid? Turpentine? It was melting through the bottom of the cup.

The "hot beverage" appears to be something that :

    1) goes right through the coffee cup

    2) reacts with the blue stuff.

  • @TehW00terMan maybe its heat reactive as well? changing color? if it was giving way to the water then the top would have changed as well.

  • glimpse of the nightmare world we are all headed for - use it for something good you sick fucks!

  • HAHAHAHA!

  • i love your video keep it up

  • why would you need that?

  • I have to say, it's a fantastic idea!!!

  • Dead Weather nice sound track.

  • nice video

  • Sweathell ! ( :

  • whats wrong with what we have now?

  • Coooooool, but...why not just have a regular collar? I can't imagine anyone has ever complained about the diameter of their coffee collar being too large when not in use.

There are many more applications for this than coffee.

  • well, the coffee collar is too large in the sense that it isn't always on the cup like he is proposing these would be

they wouldn't have to add these to the cup like they do regular collars~

  • what's the deal with the cup getting wet (0:42-0:59, etc)? looks suspicious.

  • i dont think its wet... i just think the bumps on the blue thing looks like water

  • @tishihara1994

I think totoro888 is referring to the apparent saturation of the cup paper—not the appearance the collar. I find it odd, as well. Either the cup is really crappy, or they're filling it with something unusually permeating (perhaps to exaggerate the effect).

  • disgusting.

  • Sweet so now I'll pay double for my coffee... silly application of moderately cool chemistry.

  • Hey Dick-lips,

Stick it in your underpants and scorch your crotch.

    WHAT'S THE FUCKING POINT?

  • Keep the good work.

BTW, if your beverage is hot enough to burn your hand, it is hot enough to burn your mouth. I can't understand the assholes that drink liquid so hot, they will end with a tumor.

  • but if a liquid is so hot that it can burn your hand, you still might want to take it to the car or table while it is still cooling?

  • @egyptiansushi

In which case, you carry it by the top edge. But a lot of folks can't manage to figure that out, and burn their fingers, or drop it and burn more.

Unfortunately, some of those people, rather than own up to their own stupidity, whip out the nearest sheister, and sue the vendor for absurdly overblown 'damages', for a few days of minor soreness from a 1st degree burn. So vendors need to cover their asses, by protecting customers from themselves, by providing insulating collars.

  • Cool idea, but that looked all sorts of creepy & a little bit gross.

  • It kiiiind of freaks me out.

  • It says on their website:

    - Non-toxic and FDA approved

    - Recyclable and Biodegradable

Personally i dont believe either of those statements.

  • But, they said it. So, it must be. Obviously. :)

  • how can the cup go into a cupholder?

  • great work so far. You may need to place the material behind an additional layer like latex, or preferably something biodegradable. Speaking of which, is this material biodegradable?

  • needs tinkering to expand evenly, but awesome idea

  • This is absolutely terrifying

  • Its cool, but whats the point? You cant hold it when it swells.

  • Mr. Amron, you consistently blow my mind.
