Best tip i have found, make the person trying to sell you the tv work for it, if you are buying a tv for gaming ask them to connect an xbox or ps3 up to the tv and see how it looks and get as close or as far as you intend to sit when you decide to purchase a tv
but will never be able to produce the contrast and inky blacks a plasma can, period. Not to mention plasma has high refresh. Newer plasmas have anti reflective screens now.
I bought a 700 dollar panasonic G25 plasma 50 in. And it blows my friends 52 inch LED tv out of the water in darker scenes. Full Arrary back lit LED can give plasma are run for their money though. OLED will be great though
@htu0729 plasmas do consume more energy i'd say probably 20% easily because when u leave em on for a couple hours they are hotter then lcd's and on theback the vents blow out all the heat so not good idea to put it a cm next to the wall. no image burns on plasmas. i have the 42inch viera right now its good they last longer then lcd's and led's...bulbs anyways.... but for gaming and sports go plasma if just slow motion shows go with led if you have the money
@luker3l3 you do know plasmas come in 3d aswell, and theres debate on whether plasma is better for 3d... since refresh rate is insanely important when you have more frames being displayed... plasma refreshes 0.001ms compared to led which goes as low as 2ms
Trust me if the screen goes on a LCD your fucked big time. Some stupid cousin accidentally had a pool ball hit my LCD and i called to get it replaced and its a $1500 job. It was a sony bravia i paid around 2 grand for it. My plasma broke and it was so easy to fix. Alll i had to do is replace some components and it cost me like $3 to fix. I also think plasma has a much better picture. LCD looks dull. LCD is only good for gaming.
@bdbfighting if you hit the panel on a plasma, your as fucked as an lcd owner... not one is more durable than the other... if you crack plasma, the whole panel is dead
If your looking for a good hd tv for gaming go with lcd or led. Plasmas have burn in issues so things like crosshairs, minimaps, health etc will eventually be permanently burnt into the image on the screen. But every hd tv has controller delay which means that what u do on the controller will happen about a split second later, but newer hds now have "game mode" which eliminates that so check if the tv u want has it
@GBjapes Modern Plasma's don't have burn-in issues. That is a thing of the past unless you go with some crappy brand. Stick with Panasonic and you should be ok. Plasma's needed to be developed better before being sold. But now they fixed the problem but people won't get over the fact how Plasma's used to be.
Thanks for the info Chris..got my eye on a Panasonic TXP42G20B plasma, as I have not been impressed with older LCD or Plasma in the past because of motion blur.
I still love my old fashioned CRT tv, and seems crystal clear to me on ordinary broadcast via satellite.
hi i've just bought a 42in lg plasma, 42pj350 model. i don't know much about tv's. i took it for granted it was hd but it doesn't say anything on the box about hd. can anyone tell me if it is?
new models are more perfected, and you can use them more than 10 years, that's enough long period,so what can you say now?! and i'm playing games from pc on it and i feel fine, its awsome.i have 50 inch Panasonic plasma 1080p, rich colors and hight qaulity.my mind plasma is more better
@eyeofthestorm67 Plasma screens are known to freeze that's why they're cheaper so no. There not better. My 32' Full HD LCD 1080p is way better than my friends 32' Full HD Plasma 1080p cuz his freeze and if he for example has the halo 3 menu up for a long time it gets "burned in" the monitor so you'll always see it. HAHA, fail.
@CrazyAngelDude His TV must be fucked. Ive had my Samsung 42" plasma full 1080p for 3 years now. Never has froze, even after ive been using it for 9-10hour periods. So his tv must fail. The qaulity is badass with my ps3, really rich.
@MoTheRager Try paus a game like Halo 3 and go away for 8-12 hours. After that your screen will be fucked. Might be fixxed watching a white-screen for a few hours but yah. You probably never paus ur games for long periods like my friend did by mistake.
@MoTheRager And LCDs works much longer than Plasmas. A plasma you might be able to use for 4-5 years then the gas will be gone, byebye plasma tv. A LCD you can use for 8 years then just switch lights and use it for another 8 years. Too bad technology evolves too fast. Would be awesome to see how many years a lcd works before it goes completly black.
@CrazyAngelDude ------new models are more perfected, and you can use them more than 10 years, that's enough long period,so what can you say now?! and i'm playing games from pc on it and i feel fine, its awsome.i have 50 inch Panasonic plasma 1080p, rich colors and hight qaulity.my mind plasma is more better
What I think is that pixels per inch is more important then the size or the # of pixles total. but aside from that I like liquid crystal displays better because im more used to them (thanks to my computer)
My point is that it gave me the confidence to go out and buy one. Bought a SONY 40 inch LCD last month and every time I switch it on, it makes me wonder how good the picture is. Best for sports and epic movies.
if You are digital and not HD, then make certain to get 120hz against 60 hz on lcd and even plasma, picture is not grainy or blurry at 120. plasma is good for areas with low light, lcd better in brightly lit area.have store remove the televisions off the blu ray discs and onto public television stations whether store is using satellite or cable. then You will have an idea of what You are getting before You get it home and disappointed.
This is the best video on HDTV's I've seen ever. It's honest, passionate and the best thing is he gives the would-be buyer the confidence to choose. I have seen many reviews, videos, talks, chats and marketing spiels, but they all leave you with the nagging question: "But what about me?" After watching this, I feel I KNOW the answer. Thanks!
Just a little warning to anyone who is buying an LCD TV, they consume more electricity then your refigerator, and keep in mind your refigerator is always on. Thats why some LCD's use LED's for backlights, because LED's require less amperage to power them. This is far better than the standard CCFL backlit.
uhm, LCD doesn't consume more power than a fridge, unless you have a mini fridge. A typical 40" LCD with a CCFL blacklit only consume 200-250W, a fridge is 350W-400W. And when people talk about power consumption it's per hour.
Im afraid its not so black and white. Refrigerators are on 24/7 but they don't always use the full power, for the most part its only using full power when the compressor is on, this is especially true with HE refrigerators. LCD's and Plasma tvs however use full power/ or close to full power when they're on. If you want to compare the 2, try adding a meter and you will be suprised.
uhm no, i left my plasma on all the time. Burn in only occurs with static image, that's why photo editing professional don't use plasma even though the color reproduction is better on plasma than an LCD (LCD you have to do a lot of calibration, Lacie even charges a premium for that kind of stuff).
i wouldn't pigeon hole either technology. As a satellite engineer i get to see a vast number of tvs being fed SD and HD sources. IMO you get what you pay for. HD quality varies a little between tvs. SD quality difference is vast between reputable brands (panasonic, pioneer) and cheapys
LCD's with glossy screens produce a more exciting neon like colour which i like. plasmas seem dull in comparison although more realistic i prefer the LCD's brightness
I've owned both a Sony LCD and a Samsung LCD and did not see what everyone raves about... I returned the Sony for the Samsung, then almost immediatly returned that for a Panasonic Plasma. Best choice I've ever made. No artifacting on the plasma or image processing like on the LCD. I agree LCDs are better for bright bright rooms, but plasma trumps LCD in every other facet.
man i have a 40" sony bravia LCD its cool. but like i wanted a 50" i was looking at a panasonic. for 100 dollars more...so i just need to pay 100 bucks more. but ive been watching youtube video about LCD vs Plasma. its just like he said its more like what you think. im gana go tomo and see them side by side.
In all honest, I was one of the bunch of people who fully supported LCD over Plasma screens. BUT. I have changed my mind after seeing a Samsung and Panasonic Plasma at Best Buy. The Plasma's look so freaking good and the colors are so vibrant and real. I'm going to be picking up a Plasma on Tuesday and I can't wait.
i just got an LG 42' plasma 1080i hdtv 2 days ago and the picture is absolutely amazing!i also have a 32' sharp lcd that has HORRIBLE motion blur,so bad in fact it was almost impossible to play video games on it. If u are worried about burn in on the plasma just get a 5-year warranty on ur tv like i did and theyll replace it or fix anything wrong with it for nothing. the plasma picture really is somethin!
Samsung and Sony are the best brands! I have both and they have lasted me 7 years each! And probably longer! Over all those two brands give you mote bang for your buck!
HI guys, im thinking on buying a new television, but actually im going to use that television on MY PC. In brasil all lcd monitors, includin 24" are all that crappy TN technlogy, but we have top-notch IPS televisions with low taxes on sale here so i tought a full hd 42" IPS- lcd would be better for a monitor on my pc than a regular crappy 24 TN. However, for playing games (low resposne) and my DARK room, plasma seen better. But i'm scared of burn-in when using windows. Suggestions?
a good quality 100hz flat screen tube tv is absolutely superior to any lcd oled or plasma tv at present period...stop pretending otherwise..hd tvs are dark blury pixelated grainy slury and carnt contrast properly just put tube tv next to a lcd or plasma and its so obvious tube is way way better ..fact end of disscusion full stop.......
well you got my point but that's the truph sony makes really great LCD's because if you saw the pictue quality for bravia you would be amazed my godfather owns a samsung home cinema and LCD and the picture is also excelent I have a 50" LG LCD and the quality isn't as good as the samsung or sony bravia that I Checked so in my opinion those two are the best ones to get
they both have good points and bad points but lcds have burn in problems to as my lg5000 had it and i had to take it back as i had konami burned in and wouldnt fuck off after playing pes 2009 and i wound up getting a 46' panasonic and no problems what so ever with it so plasmas have definately come along way, they wouldnt still sell them if problems for the ps3 were still on going otherwise. thats my opinion
if you have enough money to buy 3 fucking computers then why don't you buy a better camera, this is why i never watch your videos, i can't fucking see
i have a problem with my lcd tv, sometimes the picture colors like red, well what happens is the picture and color look just right then it looks horabal then changes back, whats the problem?
plasmas because there cheaper and better contrast. And i dont know where people are saying that you cant play games on a plasma. i have a 1080p 50" panasonic plasma screen at home with my PS3 connected to it and it looks awsome.
I own a 22" LCD HDTV made by Samsung and I love it. Due to budget it was all I could get. This screen oddly does 1080p :-) Other than the small size only small tiff I have with it is that it's a 16:10 screen but on positive side it does 1680x1050 for my pc input :-) Until the Samsung LED TVs come down in price I will continue using this small wonder.
another thing to take into consideration is the fact that some brands are including screensavers into the newest HDTVs which is great to avoid the burn in thing, personally, I've found great image on the Panasonics, Samsungs and Philips's, Sony TV's haven't really impressed me a lot, hopefully is not cause of the price... but you can afford to have a great TV if you walk a bit, it's worth to take a couple of hours of your sunday to go to the mall and compare before buying, I chose Samsung :)
if he said that some lcd's have too much or too little sat, u should be able to tweak it just right in the menu, and as far as plasmas, they look great, usually more of a glossy look like those iMac screens, but they have BURN IN. i see this Vizio, 32" LCD 1080p w/ HDMI cables included for $550
Yes ofcourse you can play video games on Plasma. I own a PS3 and on plasma tv that looks sweet. Plasma is even better than lcd for gaming because it has a faster response time. You only need to watch out for Burn in, in videogames are a lot of non moving images as your ammo count in Call of Duty when your playing for a long period this image can burn into your plasma. This problem is almost solvet in the newest plasma technology but its smart to take precautions.
this is a worthless video

Suggestions?

a good quality 100hz flat screen tube tv is absolutely superior to any lcd oled or plasma tv at present period...stop pretending otherwise..hd tvs are dark blury pixelated grainy slury and carnt contrast properly just put tube tv next to a lcd or plasma and its so obvious tube is way way better ..fact end of disscusion full stop.......

i have read and watched a lot of reviews on plasmas and lcds and i think they both sound good and it all depends which company makes the best tv
LoganParker01 2 years ago 2
well go for sony or samsung
those 2 make brilliant LCD's or Plasma's
arsenalmendes13 2 years ago
i think your right i went down to walmart the other day and the best tv i saw was a samsung
LoganParker01 2 years ago
well you got my point but that's the truph sony makes really great LCD's because if you saw the pictue quality for bravia you would be amazed my godfather owns a samsung home cinema and LCD and the picture is also excelent I have a 50" LG LCD and the quality isn't as good as the samsung or sony bravia that I Checked so in my opinion those two are the best ones to get
arsenalmendes13 2 years ago
best one I saw at walmart was a sanyo 42 inch so bought it
hectec69 2 years ago
they both have good points and bad points but lcds have burn in problems to as my lg5000 had it and i had to take it back as i had konami burned in and wouldnt fuck off after playing pes 2009 and i wound up getting a 46' panasonic and no problems what so ever with it so plasmas have definately come along way, they wouldnt still sell them if problems for the ps3 were still on going otherwise. thats my opinion
SimonSerenade 2 years ago
dude, plasmas have burn-in problems... and anyway, plasma-movies, lcd-gaming

i have a problem with my lcd tv, sometimes the picture colors like red, well what happens is the picture and color look just right then it looks horabal then changes back, whats the problem?
xp720 2 years ago
plasmas because there cheaper and better contrast. And i dont know where people are saying that you cant play games on a plasma. i have a 1080p 50" panasonic plasma screen at home with my PS3 connected to it and it looks awsome.
BlackRayquaza5 2 years ago 5
I own a 22" LCD HDTV made by Samsung and I love it. Due to budget it was all I could get. This screen oddly does 1080p :-) Other than the small size only small tiff I have with it is that it's a 16:10 screen but on positive side it does 1680x1050 for my pc input :-) Until the Samsung LED TVs come down in price I will continue using this small wonder.

The only real solution would be purchasing both.
each one is like a different world of image.
Belson20 2 years ago
i like plasma because of the colors their a lot nicer but the lcd is good for ipods and computer moniters but thats my opinion
seekanddestroy1200 2 years ago
another thing to take into consideration is the fact that some brands are including screensavers into the newest HDTVs which is great to avoid the burn in thing, personally, I've found great image on the Panasonics, Samsungs and Philips's, Sony TV's haven't really impressed me a lot, hopefully is not cause of the price... but you can afford to have a great TV if you walk a bit, it's worth to take a couple of hours of your sunday to go to the mall and compare before buying, I chose Samsung :)
casandre88 2 years ago
if he said that some lcd's have too much or too little sat, u should be able to tweak it just right in the menu, and as far as plasmas, they look great, usually more of a glossy look like those iMac screens, but they have BURN IN. i see this Vizio, 32" LCD 1080p w/ HDMI cables included for $550
Mr937595 2 years ago
i heard you cant play video games on plasma TV's is that true?...please respond!!
twista3991 2 years ago
Yes ofcourse you can play video games on Plasma. I own a PS3 and on plasma tv that looks sweet. Plasma is even better than lcd for gaming because it has a faster response time. You only need to watch out for Burn in, in videogames are a lot of non moving images as your ammo count in Call of Duty when your playing for a long period this image can burn into your plasma. This problem is almost solvet in the newest plasma technology but its smart to take precautions.
halloa393 2 years ago
is there anyway to get rid of the burn in thing. i play PSU for hours and now the health bar still is visible when i watch tv.
rrcczz 2 years ago
My plasma has a screen cleaner mode you can run and it will take burn out. I have never had to use it though. I havn't had that problem

i doubt vizio incorperated this into the
TV
rrcczz 2 years ago
Actually I have the vizio plasma it does have that feature. This TV is amazing for the price.
brysonz 2 years ago
so where would you find this feature in the menu, so that i can see if my also has it
rrcczz 2 years ago
Menu - Setup - Image Cleaner. That's on my Vizio 50" Plasma. What do you have?
brysonz 2 years ago
a 42 plasma but that didnt work, i guess it's really burned in there.

I've got a 37" LCD and I'm thinking of getting a 42" Plasma too.
