Hey, one question. I compose using finale too, but every screen recording program either doesn't record the audio or records it too soft. This is a good volume, how do you do it? Is it your speakers, i can't get hypercam to record my volume because my vista is incompatible=(the sound card or something... This sucks... How do you get it to be so loud though?
Well, for this one, I downloaded a program called 'Audacity' and then took a double sided audio cord (with tips like those on most consumer earphones) and put each end in the earphone and the microphone slot, so that the computer could record itself. I later found a way to take my MIDIs and convert them to mp3s online and even after that I used the Full Finale 2009 program to export the audio or Garritan Personal Orchestra in conjunction with Cubasis VST to orchestrate. Tutorial?
That's pretty smart, then again, Audacity should have a 'volume adjust' function, if not, use Nero Wave Editor from Nero 6 (It's better than Audacity in terms of features and usability)
I'm not familiar with Nero 6. I know that one of my biggest problems with Audacity is that, when you record multiple audio tracks, they will in very short order become out of sync (meaning the longer you record, the more incongruous each track is with eachother) so if I want to record my voice over a music track or a video, I can't simply watch or listen to them as I record and have everything coincide.
Your an awsome composer! The only thing that bothers me is...the wierd sound of a viola on Finale Notepad! Like ilikepie said, "eww". Fabulous job, way better than my compositions=p, you can check it out and i wrote my songs on notepad too
Its really good [I love the music from Jurassic Park; its the best. and you do it justice], but you realize you can only play two notes at a time on timpani, right?
actually its nothing to do with how you composed this, its very very good by the way, but more what finale made the sounds like....eww cuz i play the viola and it sounds better than that
It was pretty good. Some of the chords were off at some points and the rhythm was not correct. I'm sorry. I don't mean to be rude it's just that it could have a tune up thats all.
Yes, absolutely. This was an unfortunate step in my composing history that included alot of the use of chords to imply depth to the music which doesn't really work very well. Check out the end of my "A New Supercop" suite if you want to hear some music that isn't quite as flat, but I stress the end, because the whole video stretches on for like 8 minutes, when the best part is the last two.
I use finale to do a few arrangements of songs too (see my profile). I've always found the strings to sound bad. Go to Window -> Instrument List, and you can change the MIDI of the strings to "String Ensemble 1," which sounds much better.
You should try that. String Ensemble 2 works well too, but the notes blend together more.
I gave it a shot and it does work on another level. I've listened to this one for a while and I think I used too much harp and approached the song from an improper direction. I don't think at this point that instruments are going to make much difference. I've got a few different pieces I'm working on though
I would have, but unfortunately I have none of these things nor the ability to use them available to me. This is the kind of thing I do by myself in my spare time. Maybe one of these days I can get some talented musicians to help out of the goodness of their hearts, but I must confess, that I view that prospect as very limited
then my friend, maybe you should try and get some of the fantastic musicians on tube to help you! :) there are alot of really good musichians out here,. be modest and ask around a litle ,its to bad taht such a talent shoug go to waste
I started like, 3 weeks ago, but I think I learned to read music back in 4th or 5th, at least to an extent because the recorder was required in music class, but that kind of melted away. But I listen to alot of film scores and classical music, so you could say I've been getting the feel for it for a while and on my own time
what program do you use to record this? ive been trying to record my compositions but the audio doesnt work on camstudio

Yeah, I don't really like this one very much and I'm kinda freaked that its my most viewed video. I pretty much agree with what you're saying here
violinmerchant 3 years ago
Very very good! I wouldn't be able to do this!

Wouldn't it have been better if you actually divided the strings so it wasn't all playing from Viola?

not bad at all,. but it would actually been cool to hear it with real instruments or on a electone,.
