  • The only right and fair way to make food producers label their GM foods is to hit 'em where it hurts by boycotting ANY and ALL packaged foods that are not labeled one way or the other!

Non-modified food producers should want us to buy their products and should label accordingly.

This is not the job of government; This is a job for the marketplace. We control the marketplace and now with the 'net we can coordinate much more effectively and begin our boycotts today!

  • So, if they were labeled, what would be different?

Would folks choose the non-GMO Twinkie over the GMO Twinkie?

Would parents buy their children non-GMO happymeals?

No, because no one is going to produce a GMO free Twinkie or HappyMeal.

The American Consumer has created and continues to fund this mess.

    Les

  • @CouldNotCareLes That's a rather defeatist attitude. Are you really saying that there are no bakers in America who don't genetically modify their pastries?? The American Consumer can fix this mess, but begging a nanny government to take care of it for us doesn't work.

  • @uhclem - I'm certain there are NO bakers anywhere who genetically modify pastries.

Who has ever heard of such a thing?

    Les

  • @CouldNotCareLes Wait. What?

  • @uhclem -

How would a baker genetically modify a pastry?

Unless you mean Hostess, which has been marketing GMO pastries for over fifteen years.

    Les

  • great fantastic video!!!!

  • Hey, there's a misspelling in the title. It should be Americans not American's.

  • Here's another: I modified a plant. Based on that alone, can you tell me exactly what I did to the plant? No. So, do you demand a label saying only 'GMO', or do labels include what the gene is & does, transgenic/cisgenic/antisense, what if any secondary metabolites are produced, ect.? If not, your label is uninformative. If so & you treat non-GE plants with altered genes different, it is inconsistent

I trust you've dwelt extensively on these matters & aren't oversimplifying for the ignorant

  • Better question: why not label food produced with tissue culture, grafting, somaclonal variation, chemical/radiation mutagenesis, induced polyploidy, marker assisted selection, or any other form of mutation or trait breeding (I trust you know exactly what all those are). So, you demand labeling? Surely, your right to know covers those unlabeled attributes too, right? Otherwise, that would be pretty inconsistent. BTW, unlike GE, none of those require any testing yet change the genes much more

  • @Zhavlon The huge majority of GE crops, etc. already use virtually all the conventional breeding techniques and on top of that use recombinant DNA techniques, etc. So, the reality is the entire process used to create GE crops, etc. causes more changes to organisms than conventional breeding alone. It is because GE uses additional techniques not used in conventional breeding as well as techniques from conventional breeding, that a label of the specific GE crop(e.g. Bt11) should be required.

  • @myndy86 First, that's not true. Second, that has nothing to do with anything. Non sequitur.

  • @Zhavlon You can't seriously be trying to tell me that the near-isolines of GE crops are not conventionally bred. LMAO! Stop trying to BS people! BTW there are hundreds of thousands of independent health studies done covering most Non-GE foods including multigenerational, epidemiological, human, etc. studies, in comparison to probably less than 1000 health studies on all GE foods combined, most of which are 90 day(or less) rodent trials done by the biotech company themselves.

  • @Zhavlon I don't care if they label the food or not. I'm not going to read the label, but maybe some food producers want to have labels. Maybe they think their customers want these long, drawn-out complicated labels, like Dr Bonners Peppermint Soap.

I only care if my food tastes good and doesn't cripple, blind or kill me. If I grow an extra limb or third eye, it'll be to the good.

  • Good question GSGrowers. And why wouldn't the bio-tech giants be clamoring to allow independent scientists to test their food for safety in order to silence critics once and for all? In fact, no scientist is allowed to research GMOs unless they agree to never speak to the issue of safety. Why the hell not? Because GMOs are not safe, and we are the test rats. By the time we are chronically ill enough to know for sure, it will be too late. California must get GMO labelling on their ballot!

  • @1957958 and we can use all of your support! Please spread this message to your loved ones!!

  • I have a better question - If GMOs are so great, then why wouldn't companies want them on labels?

  • @GSGrowers exactly.

  • @GSGrowers Because their are so many hand-wringing ignoramuses out there who spout their paranoia to whomever will listen. Remember how you people went all nutters over the irradiated foods a few years back? And now a person can eat rare pork in France because he knows the pork there has been irradiated and has no trichinosis, but here in the states its still a crap-shoot. Same with salmonella on the eggs. Organic eggs are a possible death sentence in the USA. Way to go!

  • I hope Florida does the same

  • Way to go California! GMO Free Idaho is right behind you!
