  • This single is twenty years old today. Released 30.12.1991. Now I feel old.

  • Goth and alt girls were so hot in the early 90's - classy, yet mysterious. What the hell happened?

  • 3 people need to get their ears checked

  • spoonfork.

  • Twenty years later and they still sound better than most. Probably still look better too!

  • My admiration for Lush has only increased through the years. They are my favorite band of the 90's and thankfully I got to see them live in Sept 1996. A truely amazing band on all levels.

  • Very Good !!!

  • I miss them. Their concert back in 1994 is a classic sweet memory for me. Lush was a great live band!

  • Amazing song! I love it so much!

  • y a de la meuf...et de la bonne!!!!mdr!!!!!

  • groovy shoegazeing band !

  • Lush is the only shoegaze i cannot stand. no offense to anyone.

  • This music doesn't sound dated at all. It sounds like it could have come out yesterday. Emma and Miki wrote a lot of really great songs. Few bands have a more tragic story than Lush.

  • What the fuck Chris,... Why did you have to go, man?

  • @daveliso

Dumb bastard...I wonder what was troubling him so badly. =(

  • Who the fuck killed all the love, man?

  • Miki's so beautiful in this video, and what a great song...

  • why have I never heard of Lush... I lived in so. cali at the time and obsessed on new bands but I just found Lush a week ago. It's like they just came out to me Thank you 120 minutes (4:15 am) for giving me my new favorite band...about 20 years late but F*** there good

  • @mgknight13 are you taliking about 120 minutes on VH1 Classic because I seen a Lush video on that I saw the De-luxe video

  • yes, sounds like that STP song at the break....good ear dude

  • me likeee this where are the now

  • lush are in a class all by themselves, they played an important role in indie music...ride,chapterhouse,slowdive,MBV,etc...all excellent and relevant there is nothing that compares to that time era...beautiful music no doubt about it...

  • I need a time machine...must marry Emma ...preferably around the time of this video was made.

  • I know that I talk too much... Damn Eristoff vodka and New Amsterdam gin... Fucking late night/early morning libations... Anyway, this song and vid are in my top 20 faves of all time... No further explanation is required...

  • Rolling with Pyramids here at Numbers here in Houston... Ahhh, the good old days...

  • @ghostecho09 You were at Numbers on pyramids? Good for you!!! The ONLY city I have EVER found pyramids in was Houston. It's a fucking shame because that was the best trip I ever had in my life.

  • This is one of the first songs that I I can remember rolling to....

  • first lush song i heard. and have been hooked since!!! best band ever!!!

  • Like I said on facebook a few days ago: Lady Gaga (cough cough spit) needs to take a few listens and looks at this song and vid and get a fucking clue... :)

  • It's crazy what you can do with such basic chords. Like I am seriously amazed.

  • What superb sonic bliss and a fantastic vid to boot... I remember swooning every time I heard Miki's voice and - guess what? I was 16 then and now I'm 36, and my heart still skips like a million fucking beats with every word she sings... WOW... What pure gold and silver strings...

  • el teen pop japonés le debe tanto, pero tanto a Lush.

  • They weren't good times, but they were made bearable by Miki and Emma...and even now when life is still no better, I can disappear into the web of their beautiful harmonies.

  • Anyone else thinks STP's 'Big Bang Baby' borrowed a little from this?

  • @pilsenschop I've always thought so!!!

  • @pilsenschop

Exactly!! I'm not a big STP fan by any means, but have always liked 'Big Bang Baby'. As a matter of fact, I listened to it about a month ago, and had a same thought: "God, this part sounds just like Lush!". Anyway, It's kind of cool to run into someone else who has noticed the very same thing.

  • I love those shoegazing days too. Those were some good times. So much better than the music of today.

  • Chances are that if you were driving from Chi to DC you drove right thru my city! Fort Wayne, Indiana.....

  • i love this song.miki is beatiful.emma you're thebest

  • This is the song that started it for me. I own all their albums, seen them in concert, and have the t-shirt to prove it. ~Much love~

  • this is the song that got me into lush.. 1991 or 1992.. good times..

  • Imagine if all the bands we loved back then still existed today

  • Our cat Willie loves the boiler room.

I read this in a book during studying oil burners. This song goes to the authors of the book "Oil Burners".

  • oasis suck compare to the class, glamour, elegance of this music.. Lush was for me the best band after the " the smiths " era in britain. and certainly they were up there along with suede until they turned into a crap band...........

  • @johannesjuanes I just find these to be two very different bands, i.e., Oasis and Lush. The thing I like most about Miki besides her vocals is her twelve string. I remember buying 'Spooky' when I was in Toronto not long after it came out. I just wanted to buy something at random. I'm still listening to those songs.

  • My Darling Phil King......i,m so in love in with you....FOREVER!!!

  • The seamless flow of energy in this song always amazes me; It just flows and flows and flows without the drag of transitions that other songs have. Another song from that era which struck me the same way was "Would" by Alice in Chains.

  • 90's were amazing man!!!!

  • This really is such an ethereally beautiful song; lighter than air, yet grounded in perfect structure. It puts me in a better place whenever I hear it. And Miki and Emma are very beautiful .

  • This is just perfect song! Simple cords, great melody, tempo, complimenting vocals. No trying to over top it! Just let flow. I hear all 00's shit sooo over trying without talent.

  • love the rickenbacker ad in this vid! hehe

  • The grind of the rhythm guitars is much cleaner (better) than the album mix, although I like the echo(y) mixes of the other songs on Spooky, especially the song "Monochrome." Robin Guthrie knew what he was doing when it came to the two female vocals. Amazing, still love it.

  • Fucking amazing the sound of the guitars!!!

  • Miki!!

  • the two people who clicked "dislike" are deaf.

  • THIS SONG, IS MY ANTHEM

  • i absoulutely LOVE this song and this video!!

  • las amoooooooooooooooo!!!!

  • great song !... <3 great singer :D

  • why does this video always runs so slow? is it a curse or what? i mean if you watch some justin beaver crap it will load like in less time than flash takes taking a crap....

more speed for good music please youtube!

  • @pajaritodelodio

Maybe you had a bad internet connection, in my pc it loaded really fast.

  • @pajaritodelodio sorry to hear abiut your troubles buddy. maybe this is god's way of punishing you for looking at beiber videos. Loads fast for me.

  • @dagopremium Heh heh heh :)

  • There will always be a special place in my heart for this band!

  • Love this band, got to see them at the 92 Lollapolooza fest in St. Louis. I don't think any other band has evoked emotions in myself as this one.

  • Thank you for uploading. Nice Call!

  • I miss Lush so damn much....

  • Sega CD Rock Paintings. Didn't know about them before that, but this was easily my favorite song on there

  • At last! A shoegaze band that gives shoegaze a good name!

  • Comment removed

  • THE BEST LOVE SONG EVER !!!

  • Cool...55,555 views!!! (8/28/10)!!!!

  • I wish Youtube would stop putting up suggestions for "Lush Cosmetics" when I'm looking at videos of Lush the band. On the other hand it's kinda funny, I guess.

  • Her Fireglo Ric matches her hair perfectly.

  • The best Love Song ever !!!!

  • What a beautiful voice...

  • Is that Mike Joyce's brother on drums? lol

  • @Eltroim he is not. his name was chris. he passed over in 1997 i think. and lush splitted up.

  • @mercuriopiccoli WOW sense of humour, out the window eh

  • 1st lush song i heard back in 91! been hooked ever since!!!!!111

  • Love the video and girls are hot. Great sound and great vocals!

  • Priviledged to have seen Lush on a 4a showcase at the 9:30 Club in DC probably not too long before Chris Acland took his own life, and the band was through. As amazing live as they were on record, and hearing Miki and Emma on harmonies takes me straight back to college days. A sound gone way too soon.

  • Gorgeous & Stunning!!

  • i read the lyrics but i just don't understand

what it's about - someone knows what they mean??

is it about a perfect lover, which finally isn't that perfect?

  • @eigentlichtoll02

i read it as more subtle than that - about a girl (girls in general) who supress their own personality to please their partner (being what they think he wants her to be) purely for the sake of feeling wanted - obviously that doesnt sustain a relationship but the subject of the song doesnt see that and starts the cycle again - one of a number of lush lyrics (it seems to me) pointing out that people arent always their own best friends when it comes to relationships

  • Gaaaaaghhhh !! It breaks my fucking heart !! i wish i'd never heard this song.

  • Such a pretty song by pretty women. I wish that they would have continued without their mate, but respect them for their decision. There is an online Bring Back Miki Campaign to which she responds, "I guess its flattering that anybody gives a shit. Not sure how enthusiastic the support would be if they realised that bringing back Miki Berenyi would deliver a 40-year-old office employee with greying hair who's still struggling to shift the weight from her last pregnancy"

  • iz lush still alive? someone plz tell me?

  • @ToCuTe4Ya1 No, they broke up a long time ago. One of the male members hanged himself and the band called it quits. None of them have made music other than very small time stuff. The singer, Miki, supposedly works editing a magazine or something. I kind of respect that, as sad as it is.

  • @alukuhito

Really? How horrible. A loss on so many levels.

  • iz lush still alive? someone plz tell me?

  • @ToCuTe4Ya1 no, guy in band offed himself. these are great albums though, got me through my teens

  • "But there's no connection just his own reflection." That is the line which stands out most for me with this song.

  • Lush 4-eva!!!! XD

  • I love the sound Lush had. I've never heard anybody that sounded like them. I guess later on they got heavier. Sadly their drummer hung himself. I have one obscure CD called Gala which has some really good songs.

  • @Groovery well yes and no, they have a lot in common with My Bloody Valentine and then mainstream bands like Curve stole a bit of their sound. Then you have stuff like Slowdive etc. Early Stereolab is kind of like them a little bit too. There can be only one Lush though. She's still one of the only girls I've seen that actually looked good with pink hair.

  • You could be right I forgot that I really stopped paying attention to new music right after Lush. I just thought the chord progressions and harmonies of Lush were pretty unique.

  • Lush had a uniqueness for sure. A lot of the music at the time had been playing around with the same ideas. Great stuff tho, I used to be pretty into them back in the day.

  • @Groovery i agree but when stp's "big bang baby" came out i couldnt help but think they borrowed from lush on the chorus.

  • still love this song...

  • Love you Miki!

  • top band never get tired of listening, of memories gone

    jamish

  • robin guthrie of cocteau twins engineered this album and mixed it, great album by lush,my ex stole it from me,now a days i cant find this album

  • ;10 riff in the beginning before the intro vocals is my FAV =)!!! I still have my all red concert tee from 95/96 =)

  • I'm totally in love with Emma Anderson.

  • Yeah, I was at the Lush show in Toronto's Opera House in '91!! Unforgettable, great performance!!

Everyone going Crazy when they did this song!!

  • I went to Lollapalooza in 92 just to see Lush! The Red Hot Chili Peppers, Ministry, Ice Cube, and Pearl Jam was just bonus to me. I used to think Miki was so hot back then. Still smokin!

  • @jeffdsm Miki is still hot!

  • One of my few favourite songs of all time. I notice that this version is slightly different (re-recorded) to the version on Spooky.

  • I saw them in Boston. People kept on stage diving then Micki asked them to stop. Then some idiot did it again and nearly knocked down a speaker stack so they walked off. Cant blame them. Aside from that it was a nice show. About

    an hour long.

  • Love this song! Takes me back to the winter of 1991

  • Quite possibly the best pop song of all time!

  • Oh yeah. That's why I had a huge crush on Miki. I saw them in 1992 at Lollapalooza and snuck up to the front. She was so hot!!!! She has an incredible voice too.

  • I saw them there too, when it came to Orlando FL. That was my first concert and they opened, so technically Lush was the first band I ever saw :-)

  • I also saw Lush on the '92 Lollapalooza tour, in St. Louis. Those were great times back then, I sure do miss the '90's.......

  • Miki and Emma are so beautiful!

    Beautiful voices, beautiful song...

  • @WoundedWolfgirl

Music as gorgeous as its creators. I can't imagine a more aptly named band on the planet.

  • @scooteratreides Agreed!

  • love lush!

  • I'm #22,949 on 9/17/09. Good song; I gave this video 5 stars. Probably their best produced video.

  • haven't seen this in years and years...influenced me to look like miki when i was younger...love the video and song...

  • Check out the hardware on Miki's guitar

  • 1967 Rickenbacker 370/12. Notice the dot inlays instead of triangles on more recent ones.

  • The Rose Morris ones had dot markers I believe. I'm surprised any of them survived the 1960's and Pete Townshend...

  • Hello, proud to have their tracks at home, thanks, bye.

  • Haven't heard this one in over ten years! Thank you very much!

  • Qué años tan padres, me fascina esta canción.

  • Such a wonderfully unique beautiful sounding band. One of my favs, just wish i would have heard of them in high school when they only had a couple of albums outinstead of a few years ago

  • My favourite Lush tune, so long to hear it again. Thanks for UL

  • what a great tune....brings back good shoegazing memories. i was driving solo from chicago to dc one summer and all i had were two cds with me: lush's spooky and the smith's the queen is dead. made for a good ride.

  • That's all you'd need, 2 fantastic albums......

  • Only 18000 views this song??????????

    :(

  • wow could it really have gone up 4000 &1/2 views in just over a month?? =D

  • twins style??

  • Sexy Sound....Sexy Band....Sexy Vid.... I cannot pick a fav' Lush song there are so many wonderful tunes...

  • hypocrite, " i dish it out but i cant take it"

  • My favorite Lush song!

  • best.Lush.song.ever

  • I agree...

    or...

    I.Agree

The chord changes / key changes are TOTALLY original to my ears.

"I look in your eyes to lose myself..."

Also, it has the recurrent Lush theme which reveals the 2nd person narrator to be the 1st person.

  • THE TOTAL BEST LUSH SONG!!!!

  • I'd go with "Deluxe" or (outside choice!) "Laura" as best Lush song. I consistently find Emma's compositions the more interesting.

  • excellent! i love the melody...

  • cont. #4...

She'll make her fall (What did I feel?)

Seen beautiful (What do you mean?)

She won't remember this at all (What do you mean?)

She won't recall (What did I feel?)

The truth at all (What do you mean?)

She wants to fall (What did I feel?)

    Again (What do you mean?)

  • continued #3...

She looked in his eyes to lose herself

And when it falls apart, she cries

    Doesn't think to look inside

She just covers up her eyes

    Doesn't see her own disguise

And though she feels this sorrow

    It will fade tomorrow

She'll pretend that this was really love (What do you mean?)

  • continued - duh!! Silly little girl denies Every understanding why Her face is full of sad surprise Everytime she hears him cry What do you feel when you're with me? I look in your eyes and see myself But there's no connection Just his own reflection Isn't this the way you wanted me? (What do you mean?) In love with you (What do I feel?) Do anything (What do you mean?) For you
  • man, i remember being sort of obsessed with lush, esp. phillip ;p and so wanting 2 understand the lyrics back 15 yrs ago.

anyway...enjoy part of the lyrics 2many characters 2 post...

Pretty little girl, she shines-Knowing she is young, she smiles-Happy just to be a prize-Happy just to see his smile-Silly little girl, she tries-Thinking she is good and wise-Doesn't recognise the lies-Pouring from her lips, she sighs-"This is so real-It's what I feel-I look in your eyes-and lose myself".....

    xo

  • @acidsuga always loved this song but never really knew all the lyrics. thank you. beautiful song.

  • I can't have enough of "Spooky".

  • i was in 9th grade and my indie girlfriend turned me on to lush, and much more...

but, with this song as the songtrack to my transcendant coming of age, it was a truly glorious time. thanks.

  • Time goes by so fast... I remember this on MTV thinking this was the most incredible band. And they were.

  • I miss 120 Minutes and bands like Lush. Music like this been coming out in the last couple of years thank goodness.

  • It's not my cup of tea...but still cool I could get fucked up to this!

  • Whoah - give me some band names!

I'm too old (30) to keep up with the current indie stuff. I like some of the indie-pop stuff (like The Kills) - but if you know some quality stuff, name drop!

  • dance!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! pure 90sssssss

  • HAH me and my delusions, perfectly sung

thanks a lot miki, thanks a lot

  • yeeeeeaaahhhhhh . . . . . :)

  • This is the track that got me into Lush back in 1992. One of the best Indie bands ever and so sad that they ended in such sad circumstances just as the hits began to flow.

    RIP Chris Acland.

  • the first time i saw the lead singer of lush in their first video my heart was beating so fast my god she is so fine!

  • +1!

  • Good God Almighty! Miki has one sexy little overbite.

  • I love this band have since 92 and the Spooky release. Sad Sad friggin story about how this band ended. The drummers suicide his name was Chris I believe and Mikis devastation and trauma form it causing her to leave the industry. Just as depressing as the collapse of Pantera I mean I know that metal I am just saying. Miki is such a great musician and song writer I hope she does something else perhaps in the future its never too late.

  • the are better than mbvalentine in my opinion, their best album is split

  • it reminds me of my adolescence

  • me gusta esta banda la voz de la cantante es exquisita

  • My favorite band of all time. ALL time!

  • Thanks for sending me this :-) haven't heard this one another good one! Been listeing to My Bloody Valentine alot! XXXX

  • Keep the spirit alive, my friend.

  • i loved this song for years... and still have it in regular rotation!

  • comparto lo mismo penumbra... que copia caray!

  • dices que cerati se copió de lush o lush de cerati?

  • Yo te llevo para que me lleves!!!

  • are you talking about yourself?
