That's a great question. It all depends on your goal. If your goal is the satisfaction of getting your ideas in print, you don't need to "compromise." But if your goal is to reach a certain number of people, you may want to think about what they're looking for and how to address their needs and wants. I guess, I'd also ask you what you mean by compromise?

I want to publish a book but I am writing it for myself, not for a target audience. Do I need to compromise?
