I have GIMP which is like photoshop, but free. So, after watching this I'm happy to know that I practically do the same thing as you, 'cept when I do hair it looks like a pile of crap. Plus, I make it really hard on myself and use the real picture as a reference for colors and actually color-pick the tones out of the picture...It's a pain in the ass. Hey, you should do a video on hair! I've been looking for one for a while, but I can't find a good one.

She is a rescue dog, so we're not exactly sure of her breed, but she's a caramel color and she looks like a pit bull in the face a bit, but has the body and temperament of a Rhodesian Ridgeback. I'll be sure to show her in my next live video :)

For the smudge, I use the spatter 39 with all the default settings. I recently downloaded a brush pack from Adonihs on deviantart that is AMAZING. It's got a great brush for pores and linework. It's definitely worth checking out.

Tablet - if I had to do this with a mouse, I'd cripple my hand! I use a Wacom Bamboo Fun. It's the cheapest of the bunch, but it gets the job done. I'm holding out for a Cintiq.

As for tips...learn the shortcuts for the tools you use the most, it'll improve your workflow; save often and always work at the largest size your RAM will allow because you never know; download some good brushes (check out Adonihs on deviantart) and practice practice practice. Rome wasn't built in a day :)

I got my copy of CS3 from work, but if you want to grab a torrent online you can try the pirate bay or mininova. If you're not familiar or comfortable with torrents, try limewire, but be careful! Stealing software can make your computer vulnerable to spyware and trojans. Always use a virus sweeper on anything you download, and install a strong firewall that blocks unauthorized outgoing as well as incoming connections because newer Adobe software phones home.

Even though this is a speed painting I am pleased that you've added a narration to accompany what you are doing. too many of these so called tutorials are set to music which look good but don't really teach anything. so on that note I give you five stars and will favourite this for later use. The help menu actually has some pretty rockin' How Tos - especially the 'How to Paint and Draw' one. Check out photoshoplady too, that's a pretty cool site for text effects and interface stuff. Good luck!
