I actually prefer the 12" version. Has more to it. This is for people who are too lazy to listen to the FULL song. (LOL) Just kidding. But I do perfer the 12" version of this song as this posted version is overdriven and sounds kinda like it's being played on an old childs record player from Sears.
I looked up "7 inch" by mistake for this song. SO glad I got that confused with the 12 inch. Wow, that sounds bad.... anyway, great song and good stuff!
I actually own that 7" record. It was probably one of the first New Order records I ever bought. I got it at Wax Trax Records in Chicago in the early 80's.
I the fact that every comment I make is tied to my facebook and I am too lazy to figure out how to turn that off. In any case yes this is the best version- I remember playing this as a college DJ back in the day. Way better than the Trainspotting version years later....

Thanks for posting, definately the best version, of a superb tune. Only Factory records could release a 7'' single at 33rpm. On it's release, it broke the top 30 and was played, live on air, at 45rpm, on Radio 1. I think the 'DJ' said, ''Er, this doesn't sound quite right' and stopped playing it. It wasn't John Peel, by the way.
My first exposure to this song was the version on Substance 1987. And it instantly became my favorite N.O. song way back when. While I knew there was an original 7" version, I'd never really heard it. 'Til now. Love this version too!! Thanks for posting.
I remember this very well, I had this single at one time....now lost....have been looking for this version everywhere. It certainly is the best. Thanks!
This is my fave recording of temptation, I just like the overall sound of it. It was the first NO record I bought, back in April '82. Then Gillian did an interview in Smash Hits, which is how I found out they used to be Joy Division. So I went and bought all the JD records and have been a fan ever since. It was so refreshing that this group of very ordinary, non-pop-starish people were making such great music. This was NO's first digital recording, and their first record not produced by Hannett.
@ILZ31989 Thanks mate, I remember my big sister having this on an old c60 tape that she recorded off JP show on Rad1 when it was released and I kept playing it over and over again thinking what a throbbing sequence with that synth!
I moved to Spain 2 years ago and a copy of this went to the charity shop among 2 boxes of vinyl. Also had a first pressing of Blue Monday in it! I remember this well because it played at 33rpm

I prefer the version on the "Something Wild" soundtrack, which is an edit of this mix, I think.
