  • What does taking two of the cats off do for the performance of the car..anyone..I have a 97 with 48k miles...I bought with 30k two years ago.

  • i cant wait to get no cats and mufflers off mine itll sound so good

  • thats exactly what i did with my 94 minus the tips i was surprised how it sounded...still conservative but beastly when you need it

  • how do you pass admissions?

  • It has 3 cats! Is it legal to take 2 off and have just one?

  • @kdf1337 depends where u live ... not in cali

  • sounds good bro

  • you guys must live in the countryy some place as most states this is illegal now. I just replacedmy exhaust and went with tthe magna flow setup..You guys only have 3 catalyic converters? I have 4 stock and 4 o2 sensors 2 up stream 2 down stream then dual mufflers and exhaust on my 1997 Tbird 4.6

  • @FilthyFletch

Thunderbirds all came with 3 catalytic converters. 2 main's up front and then it Y'd off into a 3rd one and went to single exhaust. If you have 4 catalytic converters then someone modified your exhaust. There are 4 O2 sensors though. 2 upstream for A:F ratios for the computer in closed loop mode and then 2 after the first 2 cat's to monitor that they are working properly.

Not so I myself worked for ford for 5 years and my father still works for ford for last 25 years I bough the car new and have never modded the factory exhaust. The vehicle has 2 up stream and 2 downstream converters and yes 4 O2 sensors. You can go like at the direct fit magnaflows for the 4.6 liter 1997 Tbird. the exhaust is an x set up not a Y it has pipes from both sides of the headers each side has a converter and o2 sensor these feed into the junction point 2 more of each

  • @FilthyFletch

Just because you worked at ford and what not doesn't mean anything.

Where is this magnaflow kit you speak of? Because the one I see is a Y pipe. 2 pipes coming into a single cat with a single pipe through the gas tank channel and then Y piped off in the back to dual mufflers. The pipes at the back are like almost 2 inches in diameter. They make an internal X pipe Muffler. 95's came with a resonator. But if you have 4 cats it was specially done. End of story.

  • @FilthyFletch

Also yes and 4 O2 sensors is correct. The front ones are monitored to make sure the car is running 14.6 A:F in closed loop mode for when you cruise. The 2 after the cats are to monitor to make sure the cats are doing their job. My tune has the rears shut off. front 2 are still used for Closed loop. And i installed a wideband 02 to monitor A:F Ratios myself to make sure it's tuned correctly.

  • @FunktasticLucky my 1996 tbird runs all sensors 3rd cat was removed the 3rd cat is pointless in this car serves same function of a resonater just tones the car down the 2 front cats is enuff for emission test plus i run only 2 slp loudmouth resonaters in rear all stock piping as well

  • @FilthyFletch the 1996 to 1997 tbird had 3 cats 2 runnin close to the shorty headers 3rd at the split of the y pipe

  • haha get a real exhaust and then you'll see how it goes... Just today I set off a Jeeps Car alarm backing up passed it... I was coasting while Idling and it set it off ahah. but I've got ported manifolds with a 2.5inch dual mandrel bent with Borlas.

  • yes our stock exhaust's do suck ass everyone at work used to tell me if it was a v6 and now they cant stand me..lol

  • sounds good man

  • Daym mines doesn't even sound that good... I have the same set-up now with all new piping underneath.

I'm taking the 3rd cat off this weekend. I'll make a vid then
