Here's some info on Arapaima.

It comes around in the summer. it only shows up in rivers and can be up to 120 inches. (got it from my notebook thing on animal crossing)

Fishing was more convenient in that game. Yeah, the fish were a little dumber, but at least the rivers weren't so friggin' wide that you couldn't reach the fish, and you actually cast out quickly.

really I find fishing easier in the other game, except for wide rivers. Also bug catching was SOO much easier in this game. The "hold the net" then rease really helped.
