after his trilogy of albums starting with "who else"...i'm beginning to tire of jeffs over-all tone, this new record is dangerously close to elevator music. come on man, you're the best of the best...a little drier tone and more stripped down arrangements.... please ...?
Can't wait for the new album. Gonna be great, I feel it in my water. I'd like him to be a bit more blasé about his playing. Not go along with the adulation and sycophancy. There are 11 year old Korean kids that do this note for note. Laurels, smugness and resting are great but not amazing in any order. Tal plays really good bass, a Weber on strong coffee. A chance here to make the definitive covers album. Beach Boys and the Beatles. Carpenters. We'll see
I really don’t mean any disrespect here, but I simply cannot fathom how anyone who plays guitar – or enjoys rock n’ roll, for that matter -- would dislike Mr. Beck. It is just beyond me.
It makes sense that he and McLaughlin would be drawn to each other. I'm sure John loves Jeff's free-wheeling unpredictable creativity and Jeff loves John's thoroughness and discipline.
@thesentinelonline Would bet I know infinitely about mental illness than you, even if you held a Ph.D. When you are a homeless person with noone in the world, suicide might be someones' solution. When you are put on the cover of magazines and have a plethora of fans who adore you and be in a position where an army's worth guitarists would love such a level of reknown and the only way you can find a solution to your problems is a gun, fuck that. Living takes courage from even the least of us.
@BerlinerStadtschloss "Jeff was always afraid to encounter Danny Gatton - because the latter was a real musician!" Is that to imply that Jeff Beck is not a real musician? It never ceases to amaze me how many people
get caught up in the comparison game with respect to Art & Music. It doesn't matter wether one has moved 10 people or millions via music, which Jeff Beck has. I would say that's what makes a REAL MUSICIAN!
I would like the thank Jeff Beck for coming by Atlanta and making this one of the coolest summers in my 50 years.
Some say Jeff don't get the credit. What other intrumentalist has appeared on American Idol, a vocal competition? Everybody who needs to know Jeff, knows Jeff!
@BerlinerStadtschloss I don't think Jeff is "afraid" of anyone. This guy was Hendrix closest friends. Danny was an amazing guitarist, but he was the true coward who put a gun in his mouth. Certainly no more a real musician than Jeff Beck. Thats just down right silly. Jeff Beck had the balls to walk right out of rock and roll and into a studio with John McLaughlin's crowd. Good Grief!

Jeff Beck IS guitar! .. he's one of the hardest working and most passionate guys I look up to!.. Seen him play live and I know I won't ever hear a guitar sound like that again.
@kyleafornia i knew a blind musician once and he was brilliant, played piano and guitar, had perfect pitch. he said best guitarist ever was hendrix. best guitarist alive today jeff beck
I might have to re-listen to the most recent Jeff Beck album.... I took one listen and wasn't impressed - same problem with Rod Stewarts Soulbook album.... but I'll take a second listen to both
2.28. couldnt agree more, the other day i accidentally realized i can play pedal steel bending licks with the floating trem by leaning slightly on the bridge which pulls the notes back in tune. brilliant... stratocasters are literally the coolest thing ever!
@helpdonate1 . I think he's been more innovative for sure. His playing is so effortless...born to it seemingly. I think Ted is pretty amazing as well so don't hate me.
@helpdonate1 Sorry about the "yeah rights." In my opinion Jeff is the better player because he can play so many styles and play them incredibly well. I saw him live recently at Foxwoods casino and I have never been blown away like that. I love Sweaty Teddy as well don't get me wrong but Beck is by far the most rounded player out there. Nuge doesn't even come close. Do you play guitar?
Great interview! He sounded a bit depressed from time to time... especially when he said " for the past decade there's been a lot of down time". Man... this guy should be booked 365 days a yr!! I saw him LIVE in the 70's.... freakin A !!! Cheers. ~Kennedi KIng
@pob1989 you're right, nobody sounds like him cause he sounds like every other dipshit virtuoso trying to be perfect and diva....he tried to be john mclaughlin after beck ola and then he became mr "play it perfectly" diva, i hate perfection....fuck that, gimme mc5, stones, hendrix, clash, gimme rock....fuck this "dream theater" shit, fuck em
He never tried to be mclaughlin they are the opposite in many ways. Beck is rarely perfect he is an improviser in his heart and soul just like Mclaughlin but that´s the only thing they have in common. Jeff makes more mistakes though. ;)
@redhead5150 You're a Johnny come lately! AHAHAHAHAH I've been hooked since 1967. He is the last word in guitar. No one on the planet is a Jeff Beck. All the countless guitar heroes just shine his boots.
We often wonder what Hendrix might be doing today. Jeff Beck is our clue here-- just in terms of being a free spirit, working in different contexts & always expanding. Steve Vai is very expansive for sure, but Jeff Beck is brutally organic. He always has that dirt under his finger nails.
@bizthin I often wonder if Hendrix were still around today what would a Jeff Beck/Jimi Hendrix album have sounded like? Better still what would a Rod Stewart/Jimi Hendrix album have sounded like, or a Jimi Hendrix/Rolling Stones album have sounded like - so many what if's?
The new album is outstanding--very lyrical with enough flash to still satisfy his old fans. It amazes how the 'Guv' can bring a very real voice to the Strat--using the tremolo, volume control and his fingers at the same time--no one else does it.
He keeps progressing and leaving mere mortals behind...
