They are still using the same hour glass in same background till this day. (ofcourse they smoothes it out and spin it around now with hd color but) still almost the same
Well, it's not exactly the "same" hourglass. The one in this video, used in 1965, was an actual real hourglass that was filmed. It's been said that no one knows what happened to this hourglass, where it is now. The current version of the hourglass, which debuted in 1994, is all computer animation.
My original copy that I received years ago was in black-and-white. Later, I got the color copy from the special 35th anniversary video released in 2000. A few years back, SoapNet aired the first and second episode of "Days" for all the fans to see.
@CadillacL Announcer Ed Prentiss did the narration for the theme from the show's inception in November 1965 until series star MacDonald Carey began providing the voiceover in March 1966.
As 1965 & 1966 went on NBC phased out their remaining b&w shows to the point where it was all-color a year after DOOL premiered. The program it replaced was a Canadian monochrome import, "Moment Of Truth". DOOL's 2:00 PM ET competition was CBS' "Password" and ABC's "The Nurses". Most soaps of the era were still shown in b&w.
Thank you for posting this. Although I was not alive, the casting of MacDonald Carey offered the show a great deal of prestige and they still use his voice in the intro today.
I could hear this from my bedroom when I was in for my nap in the late 60's

tallulah1961 7 months ago
@tallulah1961 Yes, but he only filled in as an emergency for one episode when Bob Brubaker couldn't appear.

I saw this original intro back when I was in kindergarten, during the soap's early years. It's much better than the current one.

@burbank after he died they "auditoned" several cast members to do the opening....the end result was keeping MacDonald Carey's voice

Oh, the pathetic need for women to have drama in their lives... if they can't find it, they create it.

@quizmaster85 For the first couple of weeks, IIRC. They introduced Mac's spiel around 1966.
