  • Haha looks nothing like the movies :(

  • @JacksMagicBean you mean the movies look nothing like fencing :)

  • @CyrusofChaos Haha ya

  • I said most fatal, not absolutely fatal. Obviously if I stab you in the chest and you stab me in the arm we may both survive, but I did the most damage...

  • Gamal fences at my club now since he's my coaches nephew

  • Better yet, there should be an olympic sport thats simply sword fighting. You enter wearing the protective gear and the practice sword of your choice, can be anything from katana to longsword to rapier; then let them dish it out... Would me so much more exciting...

  • ROFL, this looks retarded. Why don't they get rid of the stupid line and have a real sword fight... You know, the kind where you dodge too the right and too the left...

  • @TheBloodyBlackJackal Why dont american football players take off the pads and have a real battle? Nom sayin'?

  • @wopspee The pads are there for safety reasons, and the game's main objective isn't to fight... Nom sayin...

  • @TheBloodyBlackJackal because sabres are extremely similar to rapiers which developed to combat plate armour. That being said, rapiers have no slashing power, only stabbing power, hence there is little logic in moving to the side.

    Fucking retard.

  • @D3V17Z No sabres are not "extremely similar" to rapiers, their use is totally different. The sabre is curved and usually heavier, where as rapier slashing power is negligeble. To say their similar is to say a katana is similar to a european bastard sword... Also, aside from the estoc, the rapier was not "developed to combat plate armour" in fact it was primarily a civilian weapn; the sabre was what ruled the battlefield at that time.

  • @D3V17Z "only stabbing power, hence there is little logic in moving to the side." Rofl, what gave you that idea? A stab/thrust is a streight forward attack, no sweeping or anything; moving to the side is even more effective of a manouver in that case. See how much they have to back up to avoid getting hit? One of the biggest rules in fighting is to never back up unless you have to, always move left and right...

  • @D3V17Z If moving left and right were simply "pointless" they wouldn't have gone through the trouble of drawing a line and putting a rule of which specifically says you can't move left and right. Rofl, thats like saying wrestlers are stuck in the circle because its "pointless" to move out of it... Or that there is a length limit because its "pointless" to have a longer sword. Rofl, use your head.

    "Fucking retard."

  • @D3V17Z I'd like to ask for an apology... Alas, your probably just going to ignore me like I never said anything. Thats always what happens when an asshole like you who thinks he "knows shit" finds out hes wrong.

  • @TheBloodyBlackJackal I'll take over. Where do you get the delusion that they're fighting? This is a sport, one of skill, speed, and precision. Go join your local Renaissance Fair/WoW guild if you want realistic sword fighting. Why do boxers have a ring and huge pads on their hands? Pussies.

  • @Irmasterlol I've always thought that about boxing myself...

  • @Irmasterlol WoW? seriously? No comment...

  • @TheBloodyBlackJackal I was clearly making an ad hominem attack implying you were the nerdy type for wanting real sword fights. Will respond with the actual counterargument once I can compress it to a size the YouTube comment box will accept.

  • @Irmasterlol They are fighting, the point is to poke your enemy with the sword. Its more interesting if you can actually move around rather than forwards and backwards...

  • @TheBloodyBlackJackal Modern fencing most closely resembles the Italian school of rapier fencing. For reasons unknown to me, the Italian system came to focus heavily on linear footwork to manage distance between you and your opponent. I can't really tell you whether or not it's better, but Spanish-style fencing has a lot of standing around a circling. Not much better.

  • @Irmasterlol lol wanting a more realistic sword fight is not nerdier than watching a cheesy fencing match. Its like saying someone is nerdy for like UFC more than boxing; anyways I don't mind being called a Nerd its just WoW sucks. Not to mention it doesn't actually make sense in the context it was used. Circling is always better...

  • @TheBloodyBlackJackal This is the context. This is not reenactment fencing. This is a whole sport, all by itself. Circling is not always better. Why try to jump to the side of the thrust when you can knock it off target, leaving your opponent wide open? I could write you several paragraphs about the differences between this and 'realistic' sword fighting. You should be more upset about the fact that we're tapping each other with car antennas if you want it 'realistic.'

  • @Irmasterlol Its not a matter of, jump to the side vs knock off target, you can do both at the same time (well I mean move out of the way not necessarily "jumping"). Its harder to hit a moving target then one thats always going to be in the same position. If you read your apponents movements and reverse direction with the right timing, blocking will be easier, youl also get a better baring on how far away your opponent's sword is.

  • @TheBloodyBlackJackal Well I certainly can't deny that I would change aspects of the sport, but I won't concede that they would be improvements. It would ruin the judging perspective, which is difficult enough as it is, and I won't accept the spectators' experience as a valid reason, because it's not really about them. Also, many electronic scoring machines are wired, and using them would be impossible.

  • @Irmasterlol Ruin the Judging perspective how? Isn't the person who gets the best strike in the one who wins?

  • @TheBloodyBlackJackal In the case of two fencers striking simultaneously in foil and sabre, the judge must make a right-of-way call. The system uses an combination of body position, context, and blade position to determine which point takes precedence.

  • @Irmasterlol If they strike each other simultaniously then it should be a draw as it would be in a real fencing match. In other words they both get stitched, and one or both dies... I think it would be better to put ink on the ends of the foil so that they can see whose strike is more fatal xD

  • @TheBloodyBlackJackal Interestingly enough, that's exactly how they did it before electronic scoring. That's why fencers traditionally wear white. Epee rules work in the way you suggest, with both scoring a point if they touch at the same time, but there are flaws with epee fencers throwing themselves at their opponents' weapons, trying to sneak in the first touch. Right-of-way developed to determine who was the attacking fencer and reward them.

  • @Irmasterlol I think the whole first touch rule encourages recklessness, in a real sword fight you can stab your opponent and still have your head go rolling. It should definately be who gets the most fatal blow, and bonus points for not getting hit.

  • @TheBloodyBlackJackal A 'fatal blow' is difficult to quantify in a competitive setting like that. Modern fencing evolved for duels to first blood, not to the death, and there's a pretty wide gap in fencing history after the guns became the go-to weapon for everyone. I think what you're looking for is more in the WMA/HEMA/ARMA category. Maybe you should look up some of those organizations if you're not familiar.

  • @Irmasterlol "You should be more upset about the fact that we're tapping each other with car antennas if you want it 'realistic." Not at all, this is about simulation a realistic swordfight not being a realistic swordfight...

  • why do they all do the same thing with their hand and yell? all the exact same

  • I don't know about this sport... It may be that I don't know much about it, but it just doesn't seem to be progressing. I prefer wrestling, which seems to be a better sport to watch.

  • Hmm. The only thing I don't like about olympic fencing is that you merely have to touch the other opponent to register as a point. It'd be more interesting if a point were to register only on hits that have enough force.

  • @LuckySharm That's kind of how it works. The buttons take a certain amount of pressure to push down but it's not just touching there is a whole system called right of way that makes it much more interesting

  • @LuckySharm but this is saber fencing so yeah just a touch I saw your comment before I watched

  • this sport's not really as much as i had expected, they make it look so cool in the movies... not just 5 second matches like this.

  • @appalloisis Olympic fencing is very fast as it is at such high stakes, a few weeks ago in the last bout of the tournament, the bout lasted 3:30min without a single hit. It was tense.

  • There should be an Olympic sport called "sword fighting"

Where if you loose, you die

  • there is no parrying or blocking. This sport is all fainting, and being quick on your feet. this is an extremely boring sport which I thought was going to be more entertaining on account of the fencing matches I've seen in movies.

  • Fencing looks so gay lol they barely even touch each other its just a guy running away

  • @monkeythelamar what!? you are looking for bloodsport in the modern day olympics!? sorry pal... the "lol" is on you... it is you who would look "gay" if you ever tried to tee off against the ball sack of either of these dudes

  • Fathy is really good!

  • i love fencing, <3

  • I know one of Fathys cousins.

  • @1212Elisha no one cares

  • @Xyphone49 You lie I care! I CARE A LOT I LOVE FENCING (foil fencing the most)
