@TheControlsBand I almost agree with you, but I love Suck it and See too. I think Reckless Serenade was one of the best on the album, and it really went "unnoticed." It was disappointing it wasn't a regular in their sets the past couple months.
And just because he's wearing a leather jacket doesn't mean he thinks he's Julian Casablancas. Ever think that maybe he simply found a liking for leather jackets?
@Cleiusthenes: they aren't naive like they were when they first started. That's what happens when you become famous, you get out there and lose your virginity (metaphorically speaking). They've changed, they're more mature and that's not a bad thing. For one, their lyrics have gotten loads better, alex's voice has gotten better. They've progressed and they're not here to make everyone else happy or become predictable, which is what would have happened if they'd have stayed where they were
@drobertson1512 Their lyrics haven't really gotten better per se, Alex has always been a prolific lyricist. Naive? If anything, these guys knew exactly what the music industry was like and was the reason they decided not to sign with one of the larger record companies and chose to go with Domino. Yes, they have gotten more mature and Alex's voice has gotten loads better, and their sound has been evolving and that's great but their music isn't what I was talking about. see next comment.
@drobertson1512 Pt.2: Like I said, music isn't the problem. It's their outward personas. Look at their performances. They interact with their fans less and less, almost as if they're too cool for that kind of stuff. It's not like they're too old; they're all in their mid-20's. Where's the old Arctic Monkeys, the ones who would crack jokes on stage and weren't afraid of donning clown costumes for a performance?
they were pretty lively at lollapalooza. i dont think we should go down a slippery slope path and think they aren't the same as "the old artic monkeys" from assumptions about their "'personas'-- being 'too cool--'" just from a few recent performances. on another note.. WOHOOO! I love their song "library pictures!"
The band aren't the same people as when they released Whatever People Say I Am, and I'm not saying that in a good way. They're acting too rockstar-y, but look at how Alex is singing and his leather jacket: he's channelling Julian Casablancas a little too much. I originally loved AM because they were just four regular kids from Sheffield, who'd get up on stage with their jeans and plain sweaters and play the fuck out of their instruments.
@Cleiusthenes i agree that they kind of lost their simplicity but im fine with that. I dont think they are getting more glamorous or whatever. look there is no arcticmonkeysvevo yet :)
@babiigirlg Wow you are sorely mistaken if you think they are on the same level. The Beatles will never be topped or even matched. They had 4 very talented members not just one. The Arctic Monkeys are good but they are not even close to being as good as The Beatles.
@TheRookito disculpa, pero me parece que este disco es excelente. Maduraron mucho, mucho más allá, y siguen siendo excelentes. Recorren desde Blondie hasta Queens of the Stone Age, sin perder su originalidad y genialidad.
All the people badmouthing Cook's guitar abilities are obviously not guitarists.First, the struggling as you call it,is a thing called 'stage behaviour'.Since they have started playing these mellower songs,Cook can't really go and rock out like he used too.Check some of their older concerts and you will see my point. As for him being way behind Alex on guitar skills,I don't really get your point.Alex plays chords and a solo.Cook plays intricate riffs durring the entire songs.I find that harder.
Fantastic song and they play really tightly as a band. However, Cooke really isn't a 'natural' on guitar. He always appears to really struggle. Sure, he can play to a reasonable standard but it always seems very forced and controlled, as if he has painstakingly memorised the parts. Alex on the other hand is much more natural and fluid in his playing.
This song just shows all the great things about the Arctic Monkeys, Alex's amazing songwriting ability, Great Drum and Bass players and Two Great guitarists! Top Band
@ChrisBrent007 actually Jamie is so that good as a guitarist ... he seems to struggle every time, and he is not that much in rythm when doing a "solo" .. Alex is so aheah in guitar skills ! Arctic Monkeys is one of my favorite band too, but I can't let people be blind that much because of their love ! We, normally, as music fans know what a good guitarist sounds like, Nick Valensi is a good guitarist for example ;)
@cicicitron It's obvious that Jamie is not as technically brilliant as Alex but on the other hand he does compliment Alex very well which is a making for a great band and why the Arctics have been so successful.
Brilliant song, I prefer the 'humbug' sound though. The rest of the new album seems to be full of boring pop songs, decent but never as good as Humbug.
@PlayerPunisher it just reminded evil intro that's all. i didn't mean to say AM stole it from Interpol. Any musician can be inspired from another one. Just like Led Zeppelin.
I can't get into this song just like I haven't been able to get into the others they've released from this album. I loved the last 3 albums, specially Humbug but this song sounds like a bad ballad by Kings of Leon (who suck). Just downloaded the new album but don't expect much since the songs I've heard are just simple and boring and the title of the album is horrible. Hope they impress me cause I'm not feeling optimistic. Here I go.
@cactaceous WTF Kings of Leon? wtf. don't be stupid. PS -- I hope you pay for the album when it actually comes out, because otherwise you're as much a useless dick as you sound from your comment. The band doesn't exist simply to please you.
